One of the great privileges of being president of Rotary International is having the chance to visit so many parts of the Rotary world. Usually I travel to participate in Rotary events; speak at Rotary clubs, conferences, and institutes; and encourage Rotarians in their service. But as president, I am responsible for all branches of the Rotary family. This means that it is also my privilege to support the service of Rotary's youngest generations: our Rotaractors, Interactors, Rotary Youth Exchange students, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards participants.

When I see the work Rotarians do, I am always impressed, always excited, and always inspired. When I see the work of our New Generations, I am all of this – and frequently I am surprised as well. Not by the quality of their work – for I have learned to expect great things from them – but by the creativity and ingenuity of their thinking. I look at what they have done and think not just "What a great job!" but "What a great idea!" Because every generation sees the world in a unique way, and every individual has a unique point of view. Faced with the same problems, we arrive at different solutions. This is why, in Rotary, our diversity – of culture, language, expertise, gender, and age – is our strength.

In Rotary, we try to take the long view in our service. We aspire to serve in ways that will make a lasting difference, that will continue to have an impact after our participation ends. Our younger generations, in my experience, share this sentiment, and apply it globally, by focusing on environmental issues in new and innovative ways. When I became a Rotarian, environmental issues were barely on our radar. To young people today, these concerns are front and center. Their perspective is a valuable contribution to the world of Rotary service, and it is one that we should all encourage and support. Just as they are learning from us, so should we be learning from them.

The young people who are serving in Rotaract and Interact, and participating in Youth Exchange and RYLA today, are the Rotarians of tomorrow. When we support them, we are supporting the future of our entire organization. We are helping to train the men and women who will be the club presidents, district governors, RI directors, and RI presidents of tomorrow.

Gary C K Huang, President 2014 - 15

Help us reach our goal.

Rotarians are generous people. They give to many good, charitable causes in their communities but in many instances do not support their own charity: The Rotary Foundation.

This Rotary year, I would like to see every Rotary club

TRUSTEE CHAIR'SMESSAGE

make a contribution to our Rotary Foundation.

Remember that the good we do in the world is limited only by the contributions we receive. And when we give to our Foundation, we are not sending cash to Evanston – we are helping a blind man to see, a polio victim to walk, a child to grow to adulthood healthily, a student to become better educated, and a family to have food to eat.

Each year, the trustees of The Rotary Foundation set a goal for the Annual Fund – the fund that feeds the World Fund. This year, the goal is US$123 million, with each Rotarian being asked to contribute a minimum of $100. I am conscious that this figure would mean more in some countries than others. But Rotarians should give according to their means.

The slogan Every Rotarian, Every Year means exactly that. Every Rotarian should make a contribution to our Foundation every year. Make it a priority this year to impress on your club the importance of every club supporting our Foundation in some way.

As I said at the outset, Rotarians are generous people. I am sure you will translate that generosity into giving to our Rotary Foundation.

It is up to each and every one of us to do so.

John Kenny,Trustee Chair 2014-15

FIRST LADYSPEAKS!

We are in the the Festival season . One of the biggest festivals celebrated in Karnataka is Gowri Ganesha. While some hold Vrutha, for others it is a good occasion to wear new colourful clothes and jewelleries and prepare sweets and savories. It is nice to see lovely Ganesha idols in decorated pandals in every corner of the streets.

DG started his GOVs and it was great experience to accompany him to the first few clubs in the Tirupati

region. Not only meeting lot of Rotarians there , we also had the opportunity to take part in the Kalyanothsava of Lord Balaji and later had soulful darshan.

All first ladies are happy that Children from our school at Ulsoor are selected for the state level kabaddi tournament. We provided them with the sportswear for the team. We have also planned a de-addiction camp for the parents of students in the last week of September.

Rotary Habba will give us good opportunity to meet once again in large numbers. First ladies are organising few competitions, games, Cooking demos by renowned chefs etc.

Let us all be part of this great Public Image activity.

RI PRESIDENT'SMESSAGE

Dear Rotary leaders,

We are in the third month of this Rotary Year September , which is marked as the Youth Service month. Our district is in the forefront in youth activities. By fully supporting the T-E-A-C-H mission all our clubs have shown their commitments to the future of our nation. There is also healthy growth taking place in Rotaractor and Interactor clubs.

Teachers day was celebrated all over the district with lot of enthusiasm. Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM ) instituted the prestigious Nation Builder Award this year. Out of the 3400 awards given all over the country, we recognized 100 outstanding teachers across the district. This was well publicized.

After the initial celebrations and installations in the month of July, we saw lot of actions in projects and membership development in the month of August and September. I have started the Governor's Official Visits ( GOV ) from the famous temple town of Srikalahasti and then the abode of Lord Balaji at Tirupati.

Membership Development being the number one priority of the year, we saw lot of enthusiasm in the 2nd level membership development Workshop held on the 7th of Sept where RI Director P T Prabhakar motivated the participants to go all out for a record growth. Chartering of yet another Club Rotary Vaibhav Malavalli was the highlight of the day.

The big event of the year “Rotary Habba”, “Yuva Hrudayotsava” is slated for the 26th to 28th of September 2014 at the sprawling Koramangala Indoor Stadium. This is a joint project of all the 91 clubs of our district. World Heart Day is on 29th Sept. Since we are focused on Children Heart Surgery, we are also bringing Heart to the theme. Narayana Hrudayalaya has come forward to associate with us. Youth Service ICGF will be held at the same venue on the 26th afternoon. Let us have lot of fun while forging together for 3days and take pride in showcasing Rotary to the general public. Be there in full stream with your entire family. Bring your relations, friends and acquaintances. This Habba is for everybody and hence we have kept it open to all and no entrance fees even for the grand entertainment program.

Rotary club of Kengeri Upanagar,Bangalore South East and Bangalore South West had jointly organized Membership Development and Retention Seminar Level 2 at RV Dental College, Bangalore on Sunday. the 7th September,2014. The Seminar was attended well over 500 Rotarians.

In the Keynote address by RI Director P.T Prabhakar,he emphasized the need for increasing the membership of Rotary since, Rotary International has not grown over last decade with membership stagnant at 1.3 Billion, which is very negligent percentage compared to growth of world population. Congratulations on becoming the privileged Club president during the special Rotary year 2014-15 – a year signalling new dawn after exceedingly long and dark dreadful nights, in which thousands of our precious children had been lamed and crippled. “A New India” - A year when India made it to the list of countries that successfully eradicated polio, a year when India realized that the Dreams can also Come TRUE. 'For every Rotarian becoming a Club president is the stepping stone to lead Rotary in future. This is your time and place to prove your leadership and commitmen”t. Don't let it just be a year in life .

Your year as Club President is a historic year for Rotary in India. For a nation that notoriously had, only four years ago, the largest number of Polio cases in the world, this is clearly an unprecedented achievement. It is over 20 years since supplementary Polio Immunization drive in the form of “Pulse Polio” was launched in the country to not just prevent but eliminate Polio from the country. Yes! India's efforts in eradication of Polio have reached new heights. Rotarians in India must be proud that they made commitments and have delivered them. The World Health Assembly, the governing body of the World Health Organization, has declared polio a public health emergency: 'If any child in the world is permanently paralyzed by Polio, it is now a Global

Before 2012Emergency. If any child in the world is not reached by Oral Polio Vaccine it is now an emergency'. In this emergency we must be faster; more focused and be fully accountable.

Government of India has tentatively decided to hold Two National Immunization Days for Pulse Polio Immunization on 18th January, 2015 and 22nd February, 2015. Rotarians have always participated in the programme with zeal and Enthusiasm and I request you to ensure the same momentum. As the Club President it will be Your responsibility to reach the Polio Vaccine to every Child on National immunization days and to every new born as part of Routine Immuniza t ion . “Remember 'Po l io Eradication is the only programme that every Club is mandated to carry out.”

The children of today and tomorrow will say “Thank you Rotary”. As you set out this year to Light up Rotary, you will not only change lives, you will also change the course of history, for every child and for

The World Health Assembly, the governing body of the World Health Organization, has declared polio a public health emergency: 'If any child in the world is permanently paralyzed by Polio, it is now a Global Emergency. If any child in the world is not reached by Oral Polio Vaccine it is

Before 2012 now an emergency ' . In th is emergency we must be faster; more focused and be fully accountable.

Government of India has tentatively decided to hold Two National Immunization Days for Pulse Polio Immunization on 18th January, 2015 and 22nd February, 2015. Rotarians have always participated in the programme with zeal and Enthusiasm and I request you to ensure the same momentum. As the Club President it will be Your responsibility to reach the Polio Vaccine to every Child on National immunization days and to every new born as part of Routine Immunization. “Remember 'Polio Eradication is the only programme that every Club is mandated to carry out.”

The children of today and tomorrow will say “Thank you Rotary”. As you set out this year to Light up Rotary, you will not only change lives, you will also change the course of history, for every child and for Rotary.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICIAL VISIT - AUGUST MONTH

The District Vocational Service team led by Director Rtn Karthik Reddy conducted a zonal level workshop for Tumkur zone on 23rd July 2014. The objectives of the avenue for the year as well as the importance of taking up Vocational skills as part of service projects by the clubs was discussed and emphasized. The program was hosted by Rotary Tumkur.

ZONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP

A total stranger walked up to Rtn. Manoj Agarwal on a busy Madiwala street, held his hands and thanked him for bringing melody back into his life. It was just recognition of Maestros, a musical fund raiser organized by RI Dist 3190 on 31st August 2014. Being organizer-in-chief of the event, Rtn Manoj Agarwal was its recognizable face since the time he came on stage to thank people who had helped make the event memorable.

The brilliantly ideated event featured 40 musical masterpieces originally composed by arguably two of India's best music composers - Madan Mohan & Roshan. It required Madan Mohan's son Sanjeev Kohli to point out that aptly the event name Maestros even had their names embedded (Ma for Madan Mohan and Ros for Roshan).

Six singers, 3 from Namma Bengaluru and the rest from various parts of the country had the packed audience at Good Shepherd Auditorium swaying for over 4 hours. Almost all of that time was devoted to sheer melody. Starting with the invocation to Lord Ganesha for a successful conduct of the event to the very last song, the recent 'Kaise Kategi Zindagi' from Tere Bagear, the evening was melody personified. And between these two markers were great songs such as 'Rahen Na Rahen Hum', 'Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha', 'Laaga Chunari Main Daag', apart from the immortal Barsaat Ki Raat Qawwali 'Na To Kaaravan Ki Talash Hai' that was brought to life on stage by all six singers.

The orchestra by Musicolor, vocals by Priyanka Mitra, Sinchan Dixit, Samanvita Sharma, Srikant Narayan, Kunal Kushwaha and Shrirang Bhave, sound by Shantala Audio and visual support by the RI Dist 3190 team was a treat that music lovers of Bangalore will remember for very long. The many requests for encores were testimony to the audience's enthusiastic approval of the event. The event raised funds to pay for nearly 100 Pediatric Heart Surgeries. A Lions club member and music aficionado who was part of the audience proclaimed that it was the best music programme that he had attended. And as personified by the stranger, (who later turned out to be a Rotarian) greeting Rtn Manoj, it imprinted Rotary's image as a premier social service organization.

Kudos to RI Dist 3190.
