Improved modern infrastructure in previously disadvantaged areas has assisted in the move of shopping malls from urban centers to townships and rural areas. Adding to the growth, is the rapid development of high density housing, plus a strong emerging middle class, which has created a further need for increased retail development. To bridge the gap between regional shopping centre’s, which are often too large to succeed in sparsely populated rural areas and smaller convenience stores (mom and pop shops), the neighborhood convenience centre has been launched into this market, offering quality products to consumers, on a smaller scale than regional shopping centre’s.
