His areas of expertise include Sociology and Theory of International Relations, Comparative Politics, Multilateralism, and Transformations of State and Sovereignty in International Relations. The session was attended by Chairperson SSLA Dr. Faiza Mushtaq, faculty members and students. In his discussion, Professor Badie highlighted that in the current international arena, due to the changes it has gone through, traditional multilateralism no longer suffices. The new context that moulds the international arena is now dominated by issues such as transnational violence and multiculturalism. Currently the international institutions have fallen short of adapting to this new context because of their inability to take into account several social dimensions that come with globalization. Hence, there is a need to adopt the concept of ‘minilateralism’, which is a lot closer to bilateralism as opposed to multilateralism. The event, which was moderated by Kim Chakanetsa, comprised of a panel discussion between Pakistan's football captain Hajra Khan, award-winning actress Mahira Khan, pioneer comedian Faiza Saleem and lawyer and internet activist Nighat Dad. The aim of the discussion was to probe into the challenges and triumphs of being a woman in Pakistan. Kim began the recording by putting forth a question about what it means to be a woman in a place like Pakistan which has stark contradictions in terms of issues on gender parity, educational challenges and societal pressures. Points of discussion included lack of public spaces available for women, stereotypes associated with women within the country, moral policing and fat shaming, generalizations regarding desi marriages, mental health and intersectional feminism. Saleem shed light on the culture of body shaming that is done by relatives even if a woman is successful.
