WELCOME ADDRESS
ANDAF has been entrusted to organize the 2004 IAFEI World Congress in Italy. This is the 35th Worldwide CFO Summit and it is the third time that ANDAF organizes it, after the 1984Summit in Venice and the 1995 Summit in Rome.
The invitation to attend in great number has been extended not only to the 32.000 associates to the 22 international member institutes of IAFEI, but to the community of finance and administration executives atlarge and other qualified audiences interested to the economic sides of our daily lives.
Not by chance we have selected Florence as the city to host this event. Florence is the nest of Renaissance and we wanted to dedicate our 2004 meeting to the Business Renaissance,a long-waited exit from a too long string of events that have put our economies to hard tests at the same time:scandalous economics collapses, terrorism and the response, declining consumers trust and economies forced to fight against each other and against emerging ruleless economies. Not to forget the Euro introduction, and the coming EU enlargement outlooks .
Our 2004 Summit wants to light the road to a strong economic recovery with themes that confront and dealwith the difficulties ahead and with speakers that are first entrepreneurs and testimony of the willingness andability to face and win any challenge.
We want this Summit to be the most relevant and interesting international event addressed to finance peoplein 2004 in Italy.
A number of prestigious sponsors have supported the efforts to put together some of the most successful companies and men that have recently emerged in the international scene.
In particular, our agenda has included the industries and business sectors with which Italy is best associated in the world: leadership, creativity, fine mechanics, fashion, brand stretching and revamping, good food, good health and art treasures. Within this group, to name a few, the speakers represent the EUand the European Securities Exchanges presidencies and such names as Bulgari, ENEL, Ferrari-Maserati,FIAT, Gucci, Pininfarina and the Vatican City State.
Come to Florence and understand how and why some of the world’s leading industries and brands host inItaly their crown’s jewels: Deloitte, IBM, Morgan Stanley, Oracle, Royal Bank of Scotland, Starwood Hotels& Resorts and Vodafone will have their success stories told.
Come listen to a Nobel Prize talking currencies, and face though issues as cultural and business convergencesand divergences, and listen of values at test as independency, ethics and, finally, the credibility of our system.
Attend our roundtables that gather the world’s best to discuss Independency Accounting Principles’ futureand where Stock Exchanges are pointing.
Finally, come to enjoy a sweet Italian autumn and our social program.
Be our guest at the Gala Dinner where world famous Amii Stewart’s voice will entertain us and party on theoptional post-meeting activities, picking your favourite Maserati out of those in permanent exhibition for aroad or track test, or go for a golf tournament or - if you so prefer- for a tempting Chianti - area wine tasting, while spouses will indulge to a private fashion show (don’t forget to lend them your credit cards) and to a fullday stroll on the Florentine hills.
Welcome to Florence to each of you

WELCOME TO FLORENCE
At the heart of the fertile Region of Tuscany, Florence is universally renowned for its monuments, art col-
lections and beauties. It has become one of the major destinations of the international tourism.
Although the Etruscans had settled on the hills surrounding Florence, with their stronghold in Fiesole from
900 BC, the Roman city of Florentia was founded by the roman leader Julius Caesar around 59 BC
In the Middle Ages Florence, after having been a centre of Tuscany’s Marquisate, gained significant impor-
tance in Italy and beyond its border, as a “free town”.
The 15th century saw the beginning of the role of the Medici Family’s line. During this period, Florence
rose to eminence among the Italian cities - the Queen of the Renaissance – in art, culture, political and eco-
nomical power.
With the extinction of the Medici Family’s line in the early 18th century, Florence passed to the dominion
of the Dukes of Lorraine.
In 1860 Tuscany was united with the new Kingdom of Italy with Florence as capital city from 1865 to 1871.
Nowadays, Florence is the chief city of the Region of Tuscany, well known in the world for its hills culti-
vated with olive trees and vineyards, in particular those of the Chianti area, where high quality wines have
been produced since the 14th century.
Tuscan handcrafts are based on a long standing tradition; this is carried out in small or medium size facto-
ries or workshops, producing items in gold, silver, leather, ceramics, porcelain, iron and marble.
Once home of artists such as Dante, Leonardo, Raffaello, Cellini and Michelangelo, today Florence, on the
banks of the river Arno, still shines as an artistic jewel and thrives on its rich heritage.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
HOW TO REACH FLORENCE
By AirPisa Galileo Galilei airport and Florence Amerigo Vespucci airports are served by several international airlines.
Florence airport is only 4 km from the city centre. Bus and taxi are available between the airport and down-
town Florence. A taxi ride from the airport to the city centre costs about Euro 20,00.
Pisa airport is about 90 Km far from Florence, and a shuttle train operates every hour between the airport and
the main railway station in Florence. The trip lasts approximately 1 hour.
By trainEurostar trains connect Florence with Milan (approximately 2h. and 45 min.) and Rome (approximately 2h.).
The main railway station in Florence is Santa Maria Novella and it is located at walking distance from the
Palazzo Corsini.
By CarThe A1 (Autostrada del Sole) is the main motorway linking Florence to both northern and southern Italy. The
A11 leads west to the coast and then to Genoa and the French border: both are toll motorways. The use of seat
belts and low-beam lights are compulsory. All road distances and speed limits are indicated in kilometres.
City TransportationThe historical area of Florence is relatively compact, and all major sites are within walking distance from the
city centre. Florence has a fairly comprehensive network of local bus routes, and many have a stop at the
main railway station. Bus tickets may be purchased at most coffee-bars and tobacconists. Two bus compa-
nies serving several cities around Florence have their terminal next to the main railway station.
