FLEISCHMANNS Cauliflower Growers Spend Big Money for Water Local farmers have spent several thousand dollars to combat the prolonged simmier drought which has played havoc with crops throughout most of the eastern United States. None of the comparatively heavy rains which brought some relief to the New York city and seaboard area Tuesday fell in the mountains, although Dry Brook did enjoy shower earlier in the week. Pipe lines running through the cauliflower and other crop fields have been used by some farmers to bring much-needed "moisture to the soil. Cauliflower Growers Spend Big Money for Water

Local farmers have spent several thousand dollars to combat the prolonged simmier drought which has played havoc with crops throughout most of the eastern United States.

The pipe lines are hooked to electrically- and gas-dr yen pumps and draw water from al-ready depleted creek beds where such water is available.

The seaboard rain was the first substantial fa4 in that area in seven weeks, but it .still was not enough to save those crops which have, not already withered in the heat and drought. The rainfall in New York city last nearly sijiteen hours and brought .8 of an' inch. 'Other southern parts of the state and northern New Jersey reported falls of from one to two inches. <3ettysburg, Pa.i received 4.02, the heaviest fall reported.

Field corn and canning toms toes -were saved by the rain, and some late potato crops were improved. However, many earlier crops were ruined in amounts varying from 50 to 100 per cent.
