Classroom Focus: Kindy/Pre-primary and Year 5/6

Every Friday afternoon the big Year 5 / 6s visit their friends in the Pre-primary. We take turns reading to

one another and developing comprehension skills. The Pre-primaries show us how to form our letters

correctly and how to sound out, not spell out. Each week we are developing stronger friendships and oral

communication skills. Previously we had a turn getting the older children to show the little children how to

use different applications on the iPads, something that would have taken Mrs Tapper hours! Last week Miss

Comiskey set up colour mixing stations where the big children guided the little children in learning how to

mix primary colours to make secondary colours. At times the Senior Class students had more fun than the

Pre-primaries! Finally we all had a big play in the playground. The Year 5/6s certainly loved being back

with the wicked playground.

Cross Country –K-6

Thursday, 1 June was the annual Faction Cross Country carnival. All students who

participated in this event ran beautifully and displayed tremendous sportsmanship. Cross

Country requires physical and mental endurance and a lot of training prior to the event –

well done to all our students.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who volunteered on the day. Without

you this event would not be possible. Your support and time that you put into Hyden PS

definitely does not go unnoticed and the staff and I are very appreciative of your

continued support – so thank you! We are lucky to have people like you in our community.

We were also fortunate enough for The Hinck Family from Kerrigan Valley Beef to donate medallions for

the cross country event. We thank them very much. All medallions and certificates will be presented at

assembly on Thursday, 29 June 2017.

Little Tackers where players are to be 5 – 8 years old (so 5 years old before they can play) (9 players on the field at one time) coached by Frank Nield.

We’d certainly welcome any kids that might be interested, certainly our Holt Rock, Lake King and Newdegate mates would be a welcome addition. Please email Carlia at [email protected] to let us knowif you can play AND your date of birth ASAP, or with any questions. All team nominations need to be back to Corrigin by Friday June 23.
