In-Flight Laboratory Analysis (IFLA)• Run-off competition for four-panel multiplexed assay (TNF-a, IFN-g, 25-OH Vit-D, NTx) development and JSC
on-site demonstration (April 15-18, 2013) progressing on schedule• OPKO Health – Woburn, MA(Wyle Bioastronautics)• Nanomix – Emeryville, CA (Wyle Bioastronautics)• McDevitt – Rice University, Houston, TX (Wyle Bioastronautics)• DNA Medicine Institute – Cambridge, MA (tech development funded thru NASA SBIR Phase 3,
handheld development funded through NIH Phase 2 SBIR, private investors).
• IFLA SRR accelerated to April 23 (from May 15), pre-meetings held with SRR board chair (Dalton), and key board members from safety, software, chief engineer, SE&I. On track.
• Developed PPBE inputs for all performer technical/cost/schedule to expand assay suite to measure >90 total analytes (research and med ops) for IFLA platform, spaceflight hardware development and flight certifications. Decision Package to accelerate ISS technology demonstration developed and submitted.
• IFLA project cancelled (zeroed out) after May 31, 2013, SpaceDOC DO-113 Mod in work to reflect the de-scope. Project will continue through completion of SRR April 23, downselect recommendation, Board Summary Memo, Archival Summary Memo including disposition / action plan for RIDs/RFAs from SRR, and then archived – target completion date for all GRC/ZIN IFLA activities May 31, 2013. PM has discussed with Board chairman and Chief Engineer.

Advanced Exercise Concepts (AEC)
• High Eccentric Resistive Overload (HERO) device successfully completed testing at JSC with 9 human subjects, including 2 Digital Astronaut subjects. Two additional subjects (astronauts) lined up to run protocol, provide feedback. (Weaver & Sheehan, Technical Leads)
• AEC Functional Requirements and Technology Downselect Plan vetted through HRP Control Board (Biomedical Research Environmental Science – BRES CB), comments received from ASCRs, PS, CMS Ops personnel, being dispositioned prior to SRR (tentatively scheduled for May 2013). (Weaver, Technical Lead / Woytach, LSE)
• Parabolic flight proposal (NSPIRES/OCT) accepted for Advanced Exercise Concepts (Weaver) – earliest flight opportunity February 2014.
•Completed Innocentive NASA @ Work Challenge for Advanced Exercise Concepts – selected 3 concept winners, identifying follow on work (Weaver)
• PPBE package submitted for AEC ISS Tech Demo and support of MPCV exercise
equipment development.
National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI)
• Supporting parabolic flight campaign April 22-26 with equipment and personnel, providing Compact Subject Load Device which was successfully flown in Oct 2012 parabolic flights as gravity-replacement loading during the campaign (constant-force pneumatic bungee replacement). (Sheehan, Technical Lead)

ISS Technology Demonstration
PI: None namedPS: Lori Ploutz-Snyder, Ph.D., NASA JSCPM: Gail Perusek, NASA GRCTech Lead: Aaron Weaver, Ph.D., NASA GRCEngineering Team: ZIN Technologies, Inc.
Objective: • New exercise hardware for exploration will
be developed and evaluated on the ISS
Relevance/Impact: • The current ISS exercise countermeasures hardware suite
with adequate nutrition appears to be effective at maintaining crew musculoskeletal health, however exploration missions will be severely resource - limited and require low mass, lowpower low volume and highly reliable exercise equipment
Development Approach:• The AEC effort will perform technology watch and innovation,
manage SBIR effort, human subjects tests, technology downselect and develop flight hardware for technology demonstrator(s) for ISS
• AEC will support in-flight operations to demonstrate reliability and evaluate the system for reliability, loading to crewmember and vehiclehuman factors, comfort and operability
