Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the centerof all and
everything we do in our own family, in our Church callings, and in our liveli-hood. Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal and family relation-
ships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations . Love is
the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source
that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives withunparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf, The Love of God Ensign, Nov 2009, 2124 (bold added)
Nearly 3,500 quilts were
made by groups, families and
individuals, and donated
to the Humanitarian Service
Room for distribution in 2010.
Most of them were
sent to Salt Lake City,
but many were given to
local agencies to provide
warmth and comfort
for those who needed themin our area.
The time and sacrifice
represented in this effort
is not easily calculated, but is
certainly appreciated and
recognized in many ways.
A FEW REMINDERS
Quilts must be tied with a DOUBLE yarn.
Donations can be made at the Deseret Industries drive-up dock,
but must be clearly marked Humanitarian
Please ask the attendant to take them to the Service Room
Whitney and Wanda Little (pictured left) of Mountain
Home have their very own humanitarian workshop, com-
plete with a long-arm quilting machine, several sewing ma-chines and even a large rug loom. They make hundreds of
various items for donation to the Humanitarian Service
Room. With funding made available through the Humani-
tarian Service Room, the couple was able to create 40
beautiful quilts for a youth detention facility in their area
last year. An employee of the facility noted: ...for many
(recipients) it was the first time they had received some-
thing all their own. It also let them see that there are people
in the community who are aware of them and want them to
succeed. It is also an amazing example of giving to some-
one else for the sake of giving.
