Facilitates the safe and smooth flow of traffic by directing traffic and enforcing traffic laws through citations and verbal warnings. 6. Summary

Incumbents in the Police Officer position enforce local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, and regulations and perform community service activities. in information exchange.12. Maintains a thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws applicable to current duties,

department policies and procedures, University regulations, and police operations. 13. Maintains physical readiness.

14. Maintains certifications as needed for patrol work including firearms, radar/lidar, ACT, intoxilyzer, and pursuit driving.

15. Provides building security by responding daily to unsecured doors and alarms; checks security of buildings on a daily basis when called or when situation seems amiss.

16. Provides building security services as needed (i.e. during special events, times of emergency, or alert of imminent threats).

17. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.2. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.3. Ability to write reports containing technical information.4. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.5. Skilled in the use of first aid procedures.6. Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.7. Minimum Qualifications

Utah POST certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire is required. Must be a U.S. citizen and be over the age of 21 at time of appointment.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of average weight objects up to 25 pounds and/or standing or walking more than four hours per day. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
