Principal’s Message
"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”
Welcome back and we hope you have had a lovely summer holiday creating new of
family memories. This year we are having a new format to our school newsletter.
Firstly there will no longer be a primary newsletter and a school one which includes
secondary; we will have one that will include the principal’s message, primary
news, secondary news, general notices as well as a phase and subject focus section
each week. The newsletter will be in sections with clear headings so you can skip
the bits not relevant to you but find the bits that are.
This week across the school has been summer school. This is a chance for summer
stories to be shared, our Heyford Team of staff, families and students to reconnect
and get our students ready for the new academic year.
You will be aware that GCSE results were published over the summer. We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. Heyford Park Free School students have achieved excellent grades in a wide range of subjects, and their hard work and commitment to their learning has been recognised. Our year 11, class of 2019 was 53 students who have been a pleasure to work with. The majority of these students have gained the grades required or above to achieve their next steps. We are very proud of their achievements as the school achieves excellent results in its second year of GCSEs with all key performance indicators significantly increasing from last year and out-performing national averages in the key performance indicators as well as in most subjects. Like any performance it is achieved through a team effort were all contributions make a difference that means “the whole is greater than the parts.” Those contributors are each member of staff in their role, the students and you at home.

Primary News
This week, we have tried to be…
Healthy
Positive
Fit
Smiling
We listened to some parent feedback from last year’s summer school, and as a result children have spent more time this year
in their own classes with their own teachers (parents said that some children felt a little unsettled in previous years where
there was a lot of movement between classes during summer school) and all classes have had fun. Some classes have been…
tasting all different types of fruit
making mood pictures whilst listening to different types of music
playing sports like cricket, rounders and completing some circuit training to keep us fit
making fruit kebabs
going on a long walk
experiencing yoga
creating 3D art in forest school based on the theme of nature based on Andy Goldsworthy
looking at how to keep our heart and mind strong by making our own healthy snacks and trying some mindfulness
activities
We are looking forward to being back in “proper” school mode from next Tuesday and will try to keep being Healthy, Fit,
Positive and Smiling all year!
Notes, reminders and changes for next week:

Secondary News
This week we have had summer school. This has allowed us in the secondary team to get students ready for the new
academic year. Our experience has shown us that for those students with full attendance at this they do start the academic
year ready and get back into focused learning much more quickly after the holiday. (and of course there is the 2 week half
term in October)
Our mornings focused on our traditional subjects but exploring the these subjects in a different way—all those things that are
interesting but not necessarily in the national curriculum. The afternoons have been about enrichment. A chance to take
part in activities you love or have not tried before and maybe a new passion.
On Thursday we all went to Blenheim to explore the palace and gardens. Not only is this a wonderful site full of history as
well as natural wonder the trip provides a real chance for staff and students to relax and enjoy a day out together. I and the
staff cannot commend the students enough for their politeness and kindness on the day.
Year 11 and 13 went to Thorpe Park. We wanted their year to start with some fun. All years have to work hard but for Year
11 and 13 they have the pressure of public examinations and an un-movable deadline!
Next Tuesday the formal academic year starts on Tuesday. All secondary students are expected to arrive at the Officers Mess
site through the secondary door. They will be with their tutor until break with a whole school secondary assembly and then
on normal timetable. There will be posters up telling them which tutor to go to. They will be then going to break and their
normal timetabled lessons. We will give them a hard copy of their timetable—you may want a copy of this so you know
which site they are on and when they have PE.
Students will finish on the following sites:
Year 7: Specialisms
Year8: Officers Mess
Year 9: Specialisms
Year 10: Specialisms
Year 11: Specialisms

Dear Parent / Guardians
Our school photographers “Wrates” will be returning to school on Wednesday 18th September, to take group photos of siblings and individual photos of Primary and new year 7children.
Sibling photos only
In order for us to logistically plan for this we would request that should you wish for your children to be photographed as a group, you complete the form below and return to the school office by Wednesday 11th September. Alternatively please send an email to [email protected], with your children’s details.
If you have a son or daughter in the nursery and an older sibling in primary or secondary we will allocate you an early slot in the day, so that you are able to bring your child in prior to nursery. You will be contacted and given your time accordingly.
If you have any questions or require any further information, please contact the school office.
Kind regards,
Lorraine Dumbill

Warmest greetings from the newly formed 2020 Prom and Yearbook Committee. We are starting very early this year in order to ease the organisation on parents and students in the run up to their exams.
As we plan ahead, if you do find yourself in a position to donate any time, skills or resources please let us know, as your generous support impacted the prom massively last year via company sponsorship, parental donations and kind offers of help. This year, we are on the lookout for any: professional arrivals photography, photobooths and bakers who would be willing to donate their skills and local business owners who would be happy to sponsor our celebration. The venue has already been secured and the date of the prom is likely the end of June, after exams have finished.
Although the purpose of prom is for the students to take the lead, fundraising is a massive part of this process and reliant on our wonderful community, so we are providing a monthly charity drive to raise funds. If you feel you could contribute towards car washes, craft fairs, bake sales or just by adding your own ideas, please contact Miss Gibson at [email protected] and she will pass this to Charlotte Hiles (Year 11) Head of Committee.
We look far ahead to this special event and thank all those who have so willingly supported it in years past, Miss Gibson.
