Open www.bitly.com




Click on Sign-up


Create a Free Account

You can opt to sign up using the

following:

Facebook

Twit ter

Creat ing an account in Bit ly



Create a Free Account


In this tutorial, click on Sign Up With Facebook


Click on Okay


Click on Okay one more time


Then, click on Create New Bitly Account



Click on


This is the Bitly Dashboard


URLs that have been shortened by bitly are

called bitmarks

Now, let’s shorte a URL

Open a website of your preference.

O our ro ser’s address bar, select the complete URL


Hit Ctrl+C or ⌘C to copy the

selected URL


Go back to Bitly Dashboard


And paste the link here

Ctrl+V or ⌘V


This appears


Go to Custom Bitlink


Click on > i o


And select bitly.com


Then, click here to customize

the link


Fill in the Link


And click on Save


Your new link is created


Click on Copy

Open a new tab


Paste your link here


On your keyboard, hit Enter .

Click on the pencil icon to Edit Bitlink

Notice the Title automatically appears here


Click on the box to edit the title


Then, click on Save

Introducing a new way to organize your

Bitlinks:


Tags!


Tags is the new and

improved version of bundles

Tags are designed to make it

easier to search, filter and sort

through the links in you Bitly

account


Notice the 4 buttons on the right side of the action

panel


Tag button is the third one


Click on the tag bitlink


Create a new tag or pick an existing tag and hit

Apply


I this ase, let’s create a new tag.



Tick the box to create Blog as the new tag.



Then, click on Apply.



Your tag will appear here


O e ou’ e started tagging in your Bitly

account, you can filter your Bitlinks by those

tags.


Click on the blue Filter button next to Search bar of

the action panel



Pick what you want to filter your links by and hit

Apply.


Click on Tags


Then, tick the box for Blog


And click Apply


Filtered tags will appear hear then hit Apply


Your Bitlinks list will automatically update to

sho o l the li ks ou’ e tagged.



You a tell if ou’re checking out your Bitlinks in a filtered view by the

flag at the top of the list.



Tagged something by mistake? No worries!


Just hit the x o a tag to delete it from your link

You can also share your Bitlink via:

Twitter

Facebook

Email



Click on the arrow icon


Click on the envelope icon to share bitlink via email


But before we proceed, we need to verify your

email address.


Open your email account


Click on Sign in


Locate your email from Bitly


Click to open your email


Click the link to verify your email address


Go back to your bitly account dashboard.


Click on the dropdown arrow and select Settings


Notice that your email address is successfully

verified


Let’s pro eed to connect an account and click here


Click on Connect to Twitter


Click here to authorize app


Your Twitter account is now connected


On your Dashboard, click on the arrow icon to share your

bitlink via email


Click on the envelope icon


Fill in with a recipient email address and

message


When done, click on Email to send


Let’s share our Bitli k ia Facebook.


Click on the arrow icon


Then, hover your pointer to f i o


And click Post

This is the li k’s statisti s overview


A total of 7 people have clicked on the link


This means that the link was saved ones using bitly


Hover your pointer here to see detailed report


These graph shows the number of clicks the link has received on a per day basis.


The most number of clicks happened on Oct 6


This geographical distribution refers to the total statistics

gathered by bitly from clicks and where the bitlink was

shared.


71% came from the Philippines


Referrers determine the source of the click (email, Facebook, blog, twitter,

etc.)


Data is available in pie-chart or in numbers


6 of them clicked on the link from Email Clients, IM, AIR

Apps and Direct

You can create an unlimited number of bitmarks in bitly,

and use them to measure and track site

statistics.
