Constitution Test Review

Divided into three Branches

Legislative, Executive, Judicial

Legislative produces Bills Executive either signs or veto’s that Bill Judicial uses process called Judicial Review to

declare that act either Constitutional or Unconstitutional.

Judicial Review established in Marbury vs. Madison

Legislative Branch

Bi-Cameral Legislature: Which means two houses

House of Reps: 25 years old: 435 Members

Senate: 30 years old: 100 Members

Judicial Branch

Made up of District, Federal, Appellate, and Supreme Courts.

Nine Members of the Supreme Court

They use Concurrent Jurisdiction to work together

Executive Branch

Must be 35 years old

Can veto or line item veto bills

Serves a 4 year term’

Elected by the Electoral College

The Founders

The Constitutional Convention= Held in Philadelphia to replace the Articles of Confederation

Had to pass 9 of the 13 states: Delaware first Rhode Island last; most famous Convention Virginia; where Bill of Rights came about.

Illinois and Its Constitution

Are the Handicapped protected in the Illinois Constitution? Yes, the new Constitution written in 1970 established this.

The General Assembly

Illinois House: 118 Members: 21 Years Old: Two year terms: Reside in the District for at least two years

Illinois Senate: 59 Members: Four year terms

Can override a Governor’s veto if they get 3/5ths of the all members to agree to do so

Governor Must be 25 years old

Can Veto laws: if he does not veto a law it can go into effect within 60 Calendar days.

4 year terms

Bills passed by The General Assembly must be presented to the Governor 30 Days after they pass the Bill
