Tailstock (optional)The counter column or tail-

stock is a large casting with hardened and ground ways and a pre-

cision screw which car-ries the outboard support bushing for line boring

operations. The support bush-ing movement is

normally synchro-nized with the movement of the headstock, but may be separated when not in use. A close ratio micrometer adjustment device allows precise positioning and reduces set up time (The counter column may be removed to facilitate large work pieces). *Not available on HTM5.

Feed Transfer and Rapid TraverseThe feed transfer gearbox distrib-utes feeds to the various axes through heavy-duty precision hard-ened and ground gears and shafts. In addition to feed distribution, this gearbox also provides rapid traverse motion which is supplied by a large 4 HP motor through a toothed belt drive. The gearbox is lubricated by a constant pressure gear pump to guard against damage and can be easily accessed for quick maintne-nance.

Feed BoxThe feed drive gearbox provides precise feeds in both inches per revolution (IPR) and inches per min-ute (IPM). All feeds are achieved through high-quality precision gears which are mounted on hardened and ground shafts. The feeds are controlled by precise electro-mag-netic clutches for each direction of feed motion. For ease of mainte-nance the feed gearbox is designed as a self-contained unit which can be easily dismounted from the main spindle drive gearbox.

Centralized Lubrication SystemLubrication of the HTM is achieved through independent, centralized lube systems for each of the major machine sections. Individual self-contained pumping units provide proper lubrication for the spindle drive gearbox, the feed gearbox, the headstock ways and the table/saddle assembly. The lubrication oil is distributed through specially cali-brated metering units to ensure precise lubrication amounts to all critical components.

Electrics & DrivesSummit utilizes only state of the art programma-ble logic elec-tronics to ensure long, reliable operation. Components are installed in a cen-tralized, column-mounted, fully accessible cabi-net for ease of maintenance. Each load circuit is provided with fused or thermal-ly-monitored

overload devices to ensure com-plete protection of major compo-nents. These devices are fully inte-grated into the control circuity to provide warning lights and/or sus-pend machine operation as neces-sary.

Vertical Attachment (optional)Standard No. 50 milling machine type spindle will accept a wide vari-ety of readily available tooling. 360° rotation right angle spindle allows complete turning flexibility.

Spindle Drive BoxThe extra heavy-duty spindle drive gearbox provides spindle speeds through large width, precision hard-ened and ground gears. Each gear is thoroughly tested for accurate tooth configuration and flank engagement to ensure a quiet and smooth operation while delivering maximum torque and power to the spindle. The gears are precision mounted on hardened and ground splined shafts in ball or tapered roll-er bearings. The spindle unit is mounted in high precision angular contact bearings for accuracy, rigidity and smooth running. To ensure extremely precise operation, the spindle is controlled by an electro-magnetic clutch and brake mechanism.

Table Feeds & Way CoversThe separate screw and feed shaft provide feeds for cross movement (X-axis) and rotary motion (B axis) of the table. The large diameter (63mm) ball screw and feed shaft can be selected for either manual or power feed with separate selection mechanisms.Fully telescoping steel way covers provide the ultimate in protection of the bedways. Always in place, the covers telescope and retract with-out interfering with the table travel. The useful machine life and accura-cy are extended with this valuable standard feature.

Facing Head (optional)The 19 5/8" diameter facing head is mounted directly to the spindle face and is capable of operations to 190 RPM. This attachment will face diameters up to 35 1/2".
