MEN’S HOOPS - 1966The Blue Demons reach the century mark in a 100-79 win against a Lou Watson- led Indiana Hoosiers team. The 1965-1966 Blue Demons was a high-scoring group, averaging more than 75 points per game. This senior-laden team was balanced with each starter averaging double figures. Don Swanson (18 ppg), Errol Palmer (12.6 ppg), Dave Mills (13 ppg), Tom Meyer (14.1 ppg), and Terry Flanagan (11 ppg) all contributed to the Blue Demons 18-8 season. In addition, Palmer holds sixth place on DePaul all-time rebounding list with 874 rebounds. Palmer’s teammate, Dave Mills holds 25th place on the DePaul all-time rebounding list with 614 career rebounds.

WOMEN’S HOOPS -2009Sam Quigley led a trio of Blue Demons in double figures as DePaul topped West Virginia,74-56, on February 1, 2009 in BIG EAST Conference action at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Felicia Chester and Natasha Williams both added 14 points. Quigley led DePaul with a career-high six assists. The Blue Demons enjoyed a successful season with a 23-10 overall record, 10-6 in the BIG EAST, and tied fourth in the conference. Quigley finished her career with 1,273 career points. In ad-dition, Qugiley earned All-American honors follow-ing DePaul’s record-breaking season in 2010-11.

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1978, DePaul defeated Louisville and the “doctors of dunk” on a hook shot from the free-throw line by Dave Corzine with three seconds remaining in double-overtime. In that game, Dave Corzine passed George Mikan to become DePaul’s third all-time career-scoring leader, as well as scoring a personal single-game record of 46 points.

Powered by the “Iron Five”, the 1979 squad put on a late season run that ignited the nation’s interest in the “little school by the L.” The national semifinal pitted the Blue Demons against Indiana State and Larry Bird. Watkins played all 40 minutes with a bad knee, injured late in the UCLA game, but Bird proved to be too much as DePaul went toe-to-toe with the Sycamores before succumbing, 76-74.

Corzine finished his career at DePaul as the all-time leading rebounder and third all-time leading scoreer, Dave helped the Blue De-mons to two NCAA Tournaments, including a Elite Eight appearance in 1978.

Corzine went on to play in the NBA from 1978-91. Corzine currently works asassistant to the athletics director for commu-

nity outreach.

Garland helped DePaul to three NCAA Tournament appear-ances including the 1979 Final Four. In addition, Garland earned NCAA Tourna-ment All-Region honors in 1978 and 1979 and was the Most Valuable Player of the West Regional in 1979. Garland was named

the Music Man by his teammates and often sang the National Anthem before Blue Demon Games.

Since his playing days ended, Garland has continued with music career, serving as a backup singer to his half-sister, Whitney Houston.

Watkins helped the Blue Demons to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 1979 Final Four. Watkins finished his career 10th on the DePaul all-time rebounding list with 810 rebounds.

The Blue Demons and Red Storm are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in Rosemont. DePaul is 11-9 overall and 2-6 in BIG EAST play while St. John’s stands at 9-12 overall and 3-6 in league action. The two Vincentian uni-versities (of just four in the world) meets for the 28th time on Wednesday and all of the action can be heard on WSCR 670 The Score in Chicago with Zach Zaidman (play-by-play) and Laurence Holmes (analyst) providing the audio description. The game will be televised on The U Too in Chicago as part of the BIG EAST Network with Mike Gleason (play-by-play) and Dickey Simpkins (analyst) calling the action courtside. NOTING THE BLUE DEMONSThe men’s basketball program is 1,383-870 (.615) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 568 straight games... DePaul’s last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 310-137 (.694) all-time in Rosemont... DePaul is 6-1 (.857) all-time in games at McGrath-Phillips Arena... DePaul’s 9-3 start during the non-conference schedule was the best through 12 games since the 1999-00 squad also started 9-3... over the last 25 seasons, only three teams have started with nine or more wins in the first 12 games... the Blue Demons currently hold a seven-game winning streak against Chicagoland programs that includes victories over Chicago State, UIC, Loyola and Northern Illinois... in each of Oliver Purnell’s two seasons at DePaul, the Blue Demons have faced three Chicagoland opponents during the non-conference portion of the schedule with wins in each meeting... Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young have each scored at least 20 points in five games this season... the Blue Demons are 3-2 in those games... DePaul is 7-0 this season with at least four players in double-figures and 4-1 with 10 or more three-pointers.

IT COULD HAPPEN:A win would give DePaul back-to-back BIG EAST wins for the first time since the start of the 2007-08 conference schedule... the Blue Demons started that league slate with an 84-76 win against Villanova and a 70-65 decision against Providence... Cleveland Melvin needs one blocked shots to move in a tie for 16th all-time at DePaul... Jeremiah Kelly needs three steals for 150 career...the three steals would also move him up to eighth all-time at DePaul... a loss would give DePaul three straight home losses for the first time this season.

BRANDON COULD JOIN ROD:With seven assists, sophomore Brandon Young could be the first player since Rod Strickland to record at least 100 assists in each of his freshman and sophomore seasons at DePaul. Strickland (1985-88) dished out 159 assists as a freshman in 1985-86 and 196 assists during his sophomore season in 1986-87. Young totaled 115 assists during his rookie campaign last season and enters the St. John’s game with 93 assists this season. Junior-college transfer Joe Daughrity accomplished the feat in his two seasons with DePaul as a junior and senior. He totaled 134 assists in 1990-91 and 145 helpers in 1991-92 after transferring from Oxnard CC.

BLUE DEMON FANS NAMES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR DOUG BRUNODePaul Athletics is proud to announce the estab-lishment of the Doug Bruno Endowed Scholar-ship through the generosity of Heather Nichols Carmody and her husband Dan Carmody. The scholarship annually will provide a scholarship opportunity to a women’s basketball student-athlete.

Heather Nichols Carmody has been a long-time supporter of Blue Demon women’s basketball. She is a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP where she is a member of the Corporate Department. She concentrates her practice on family office, high-level individual and entity tax planning, estate planning and asset protection planning.

Carmody is a Double Demon, earning degrees in Commerce and Law, respectively. She earned her B.S. in accounting as part of DePaul’s Strobel’s Honors Program. She and her husband, Dan, live in Lincoln Park with their two daughters and dog.

D-CLUB TO UNVEIL LEGEND’S LOUNGE FOR MEN’S BASKETBALLIn an effort to better serve D-Club members that support Blue Demon Athletics, the Legend’s Lounge was created in the Southwest Corner of Allstate Arena. Open at tip-off for every home men’s game, D-Club mem-bers who purchase a season ticket and/or make a Champions Club level gift are eligible to hangout in the Legend’s Lounge.

The Lounge will provide a place for D-Club members to enjoy friends and teammates for all DePaul men’s basketball games. Those D-Club members who are eligible to attend the Legend’s Lounge will be admitted through a list and will be given a drink ticket for two drinks for each game. Additionally snacks will be available for D-Club members and their guests. Additional drinks will be available for purchase.

DePaul is pleased to announce a new benefit for President’s Club members: exclusive access to pregame receptions before all men’s and women’s basketball Big East home games in 2012!

The new “President’s Club Room” at Allstate Arena will open Jan. 1, 2012, when the men’s team takes on Syracuse. The club room will offer complimentary refreshments, “chalk talks” with men’s basketball staff, and special visits from DePaul administration.

President’s Club members and their spouse/significant other are welcome to attend the pregame receptions free of charge starting one hour prior to tip-off in the Southeast Party Room. Additional guests are welcome to attend for $20 per person. Preregistration options will be available closer to the first game, so check back for more details this winter. Also, there will be pregame receptions on the Lincoln Park Campus for all women’s basketball Big East home games as well, and President’s Club members are encour-aged to attend! NEW AT ALLSTATE ARENAFans will enjoy a new look and more of a DePaul atmosphere throughout the concourses at Allstate Arena. The rich history and tradition of Blue Demon Basketball will be on dis-play throughout the arena. A new KIDZone will occupy southeast corner, complete with a Boot N’ Shoot pop shot game, Demon House bouncer for all little Demons, poster making and face tattoo stations. Fans can also pose with a life size cut out of their favorite Blue Demon. In addition, pre-game photo opportunities with DIBs the Blue Demon mascot for every game.

A new Fan Zone will occupy the refurbished area in the east concourse where fans can gather pre-game or at halftime for refreshments and lively conversation.

And last but not least, a new Demon rules the tunnel on the west end of the stadium!

NEW AT MCGRATH-PHILLIPS ARENAA new scoreboard with a 10-foot video screen is coming in December, complete with a three-camera production capability.
