1 Homework for November 28 th – December 1 st (Short week – Homework and spelling test on Thursday). Christmas concert is on Thursday, December 1 st at 6:30. Students must arrive by 6:15. Please let me know if you are not attending in the agenda. Agenda Reminder: Remember that your child should be showing you the agenda and it should be signed every night. Reading: It is very important for students to read for 15-20 minutes each night. When listening to your child read, you can help with the three P’s: Pause Prompt Praise 1. Pause: If your child gets stuck on a word, PAUSE and let him/her try and figure out the word. 2. Prompts: Here are some ideas to help your child if he/she needs some extra help: Make the first sound of the word Blend the letter sounds together Think about what makes sense in the sentence Look for little words inside the big words (chunking) Does that sound right? Does that make sense? 3. Praise: Give your child positive reinforcement for reading and persevering through difficult words. Say things like: You are doing a great job reading! I know you are stuck, but give it a try Try and think of a word that makes sense in the sentence – (substitutions are also very good) Don’t forget to talk about the story! Have your child predict what will happen, answer questions about characters, tell his/her favourite part, make connections to personal experiences, and retell main ideas. More Importantly: Model reading yourself. Read to your child.

Homework for November 28th – December 1st (Short week – Homework and spelling test on Thursday). Christmas concert is on Thursday, December 1st at 6:30. Students must arrive by 6:15. Spelling: This week we continue with common sight words and also three colour words from our science unit. (These are the primary colours) Please sign the old test to indicate that you have seen it. Students who have errors should practice on the back of the spelling test page by printing each word correctly 6 times and then print a sentence using the word.

       Math: Students have been using tally marks to represent numbers. They may also draw on their knowledge of skip counting by fives to complete the tally assignments.
