We have also started the process for appointing our Head Boy & Girl. Please watch their nomination videos and place your vote here by Wednesday 15th July. Well done and thank you to the candidates for all their efforts in putting their videos together
and we’ll hopefully announce the results next week.

I hope that you have been able to avoid some of the relaxations that have been happening over the last week (I can’t wait to get my hair cut!) As this continues to happen, please

Amazing Student Success! We were extremely excited to hear that five or our students Amy, Jessica, Mia, Victoria and Harmony have been shortlisted in the YouCreate: Change competition run by UCA from the hundreds of entries
receive. That means we have 5 of the top 25 entries. Amazing!
A special online exhibition showcasing all of the entries will be held between 9th July -27th August 2020, on UCA’s YouCreate: Change Competition website The shortlist will be live from 9th July and the winners will be announced online on Thursday 16 July 2020. Please go online and cast your vote

UCAS Virtual Exhibition – Veterinary, medicine, dentistry UCAS have announced the first in a series of UCAS virtual exhibitions on the 23rd July for these courses whose deadline falls early on the 15th October. They are designed to help students explore their options from home. This online event means students can explore courses at up to 40 universities and colleges around the UK. It’s perfect for anyone considering applying to medicine, veterinary, or dentistry courses.
Students will have chance to speak directly to subject and admissions specialists via 1-2-1 or group chat, listen in on topical seminars, and pick up digital prospectus’ and other information. Link in the Choosing a University Section on the Home Learning site.

University Webinars Lots of webinars have now been added to the Home Learning site to allow you to discover more about university life, clearing, finance and finding the right course. Make sure that you have a look and book yourself into them to answer any questions you might have about the process.
Future Doctors Week: 20th-24th July From July 20th - 24th Pre Med Projects are running our Future Doctors week online for students aged 14-18 who might be considering careers in healthcare (£29.95) and they also have a totally free guide to writing the perfect med school personal statement for all of your students that are interested in careers in medicine to receive a copy.
Students spend the Future Doctors Week learning everything they need to apply to med school and will gain some fantastic work experience too to help with applications, all from the comfort of their own homes. With medical work experience being such a critical aspect to a successful application and world events currently making that very difficult to obtain, this has been incorporated into an online course, led by current practicing UK NHS doctors. Imperial College, UCA & Kent Masterclasses These universities are offering fantastic opportunities for students to engage with super-curricular learning about science/medicine (Imperial), art & design (UCA) and a wide range of other topics (Kent). Find the links in the Super-Curricular section

some of the fantastic things on offer over the next few weeks…
Homewood’s Race Across the UK –
Sports Week
Homewood is aiming to walk, run or cycle as far as we can within one week! The Sixth Form can contribute to whole school distance travelled by completing the form below.
We’re aiming to go as far as we can during the week and all students and staff can take part. Our aim is to travel from
Tenterden to John O’Groats (1300km).
Everyone should submit their distance on the Homewood Website via the Google Form. You may do this whenever you can during Monday 13th July and Friday 17th July,
providing evidence that you have achieved this distance using a screenshot of your tracking app, such as
MapmyRun or Runkeeper or another health app, such as google fit or apple health on a mobile device. Failing that a
video or picture of you doing you exercise is accepted.
Calling All Musicians! We are hosting Homewood's first Live Lounge. If you would like to be included, we will be accepting audio submissions only by Thursday 16th July. When you email your work to Miss Snow, please include your college and form group, as well as your name. This can be via google share or email.
Please perform a piece between 1-5 minutes with a backing track (if singing) or accompaniment, or as a soloist instrumentalist or with a backing track. This can be an audio file or mp3.
A compilation will be available on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd July to celebrate the beginning of the summer holidays from 1pm.
That Graphics Stuff – Online Exhibition
We have a new social media platform for our amazing graphics students
who have been working very hard over lock down. We have had some truly incredible pieces of work being made and we wanted to be able to share
them with staff, students and parents. Please have a look and follow our new handle @thatgraphicsstuff for exemplar GCSE and A-Level pieces.

Step 1: Complete the introductory questionnaire Please complete the survey online. The Sixth Form team use this to work out what support you need when you arrive with us in school.
Step 2: Personal & Professional Development Your form tutors will ask for this work when you start in September:
1. Work through the presentation on the Home Learning site and complete at least 3 activities from Maximising Your Time.
2. Learn about Cornell Notes and take notes on a text or TEDex Talk of your choice using that format.
3. Join the Sixth Form Google Classrooms (see box on right hand side)
Step 3: Complete the teacher-set Transition Work Complete the work on the Home Learning site for all the courses that you are starting in September. Your teachers will expect this to be handed in when you arrive.
Step 4: PiXL Gateway Login to PiXL Independence using School Code 603979 and the password Indep79 Once logged in, click on PiXL Independence, then Years 12 & 13, then PiXL Gateway. Complete the work on Cornell notes, watch the videos and then choose your subjects (if relevant) and complete the transition pack.
Step 5: Super-curricular Look at the subjects you have chosen on the Super 6 from your Home Planet sheet on the Home Learning site and complete their super-curricular work. This will not only benefit you, but is the kind of activity that you'll be able to mention to tutors or employers when you're making your applications in the future.
You should also improve the style of your academic writing by registering for the course here.
Search for free courses and talks on FutureLearn.com, MOOC.org and Tedx on topic areas relevant to your subjects or that interest you. Watch programmes relevant to your subject using iPlayer or another streaming service.
Step 6: Information for Parents Show your parents the information for them on the Home Learning site. They will have to be logged in on a device which is using your school Google account.
