    Random Notes on Homoeopathic Practice

Compiled by Dr Sivaraman based on Krsihnamurthy’s book

I started my career as a medical journalist. Forty years ago, while in New Delhi, when I

entered the scene of homoeopathy I noticed one striking thing—while one homoeopath

cured most of his patients with one single dose e!en obstinate chronic cases", another

was gi!ing more than one remedy that too repeatedly, with partial or nil relief. #hus, my

journey started to fill this gap of knowledge among homoeopaths. I started studying and

practising homoeopathy out of sheer academic interest and thus got the inspiration to

write this book. If the reader keeps this in mind, he would e!ince much interest in what I

am going to write in the following pages.

    $eaning of %mind symptoms& section '() of the *rganon" and %rare+strange+peculiar+

    matter+of+fact way.

becoming popular." 0lso, please note that this remedy must first be gi!en to your

doctor+patient i. e., any homoeopath coming to you for treatment and also to a

patient who has gone to many homoeopaths.

hy are homoeo softwares useless? A practitioner would be doing great blunder if

he thinks that he can find the remedy for all his patients with the repertory or

software. $ost of those using software are under the illusion that once the homoeo

software is installed, he can be damn sure of selecting the remedy for his patients. #o

remo!e this illusion the following is being written.

(" #he practitioner searches in the software for %diabetes& and he gets some results.

@ut, at the same time, he would be missing many remedies for diabetes. #his is because

in some places of materia medicas for %diabetes& the terms %glycosuria& or %sugar in urine& is used in place of diabetes.

'" @efore programming the materia medica they must either change all the words

%glycosuria& as %diabetes& or gi!e %diabetes& within brackets after all the words %glycosuria.&

@ecause of either ignorance or arrogance those selling softwares will not listen to these

    obser!ations.

0gain a doctor may search for %li!er& but in many places we find eAui!alent terms

%hepatic affections& %bilious& etc. are used for li!er affections and the list goes on.

#herefore, alternati!e terms must be included side by side in the materia medicas used

in the computers as under before including them in the software? B-amples are?

    a" old age, aged persons

    b" glycosuria, diabetes, diabetes mellitus

c" kidney, renal, nephritis, and so on and so forth.

Finding the remedy—the simillimum for a patient is not a mechanical job6 it is artistic.

0lso, certain syndrome group of symptoms" cannot be classified under any rubric in the

repertory or software and so a homoeopath would better memorise them. B-ample case

    are gi!en below?

AS! "? $r. N. 8 years reported? Doctor, daily morning I get headache6 in the

the remedy to us. In ilkinson&s $ateria $edica the following sentence under the

remedy 7ulsatilla, agrees with this case?

    Preface By the Author

I started my career as a medical journalist. Forty years ago, while in New Delhi, when I

entered the scene of homoeopathy, one striking thing that I noticed was that while one

homoeopath cured most of his patients with one single dose e!en obstinate chronic

cases", another was gi!ing more than one remedy that too repeatedly, with partial or nil

relief. #hus, my journey started to fill this gap of knowledge among homoeopaths. I

started studying and practising homoeopathy out of sheer academic interest and thus

got the inspiration to write this book. If the reader keeps this in mind, he would e!ince

much interest in what I am going to write in this book.

     Advanced Homoeopathic Practice

4ow to make 4omoeopathy $ore popular and 0cceptable? *f late, there has been

repeated hue and cry from homoeopaths against go!ernments and others for not gi!ing

due recognition to homoeopathy. #he remedy lies not outside but inside—among

homoeopaths. If we impro!e the Auality of our practice, go!ernment and others

including allopaths" would automatically come forward not only to recognise but also

admire us. #his work is an attempt to this end.

It is !ery rarely the case that among the pro!ings of our remedies not one is to be

found which corresponds to the characteristic features of a caseE)

)I ha!e to mention this because pro!ings of new remedies are being published in

journals and elsewhere as if we lack remedies in the e-isting materia medicas."

4omoeopathy is slow to win its way because of defecti!e use of books as well as

    because of defecti!e books.E

$ost people think that as we ha!e remedies for diabetes in other systems like insulin in

allopathy" there would be corresponding remedies in homoeo. #his is not so. #here is

one marked difference between homoeo and other medical systems allopathy,

    ayur!eda, siddha etc."

#he %uncommon mind symptom& may, in most cases, be one only. In the abo!e renal

failure case, the abo!e Auoted symptom cannot be classified in any e-isting rubrics in

the repertory. 4omoeo software would be of utter failure. #he practitioner must

memorise the symptom of the abo!e two remedies and keep it in his finger tips.

4omoeopathic practice is not a mechanical work but it is artistic. #herefore homoeo

software would but be a mockery.

#o illustrate this point, let us e-amine more cases6 in all the following three cases, only

one 0uncommon3 mind symptom was present and the reader, after studying the three

cases, would at once agree that with homoeo software he cannot do anything to find the

    similimum.

ase &: 0 lady of fifty+fi!e, school teacher, was under my treatment for three months for

sinusitis with little relief. 3he li!es thirteen kilometers away from my clinic and she works

in a school which is less than one kilometer from my clinic. @efore going to the school

she would come to me once a month, take medicine and go to school. 3eeing no relief in

spite of three !isits, I told her that a certain acupressure doctor would come and gi!e

just )+minute treatment once only and for this she need not pay any fees and also I

assured total relief. 3ince the acupressure doctor comes to my clinic on 3undays only I

asked her to come on a 3unday. #o this she replied, I ha!e to come all the way from

    her residence."E

During the earlier three !isits she would come to me in the morning before going to her

school which is near my clinic. 3unday is holiday for the school and she feels it an ordeal

to come for acupressure treatment all the way from her residence thirteen kilometers

    away.

It is hesitation. I told her no need to pay any fees for the one+time acupressure and

(;;L cure was also assured. #herefore, tra!elling thirteen kilometre cannot be a crime.

@ut to do this she has hesitation. @efore we show the reader how we selected the

remedy on this symptom let us see two more cases.

ase ':  0 lady allopathic doctor was learning homoeopathy from me e!ery 3unday

we ha!e eAually good tools for selecting the remedy—%uncommon& and %general&

    symptoms.

I had already Auoted Gilienthal saying, Drop the symptom in Gilienthal and you get the

remedy.E Get me illustrate this with three cured cases.

AS! : 0 boy of ele!en was brought by his mother? 3he spoke? Doctor, look at him.

#he boy is making constant mo!ements of his fingers. 4e often becomes !iolent and

restless. #his started si- months ago. e went to allopathic hospital and they diagnosed

his case as worm complaint and ga!e him santonine2 but e!en double the adult dose of it

had no effect. #hen we went to a homeopathy specialist. 3he showed me the

prescription? Cina-); daily morning and /raphites-); daily night, for eruption on

forearm with sticky discharge, for one monthE." 4e has completed one month course of

these two remedies but no result.E

I looked at the boy again and the case sheet. %Case sheet& means plain white sheet on

which we start writing down one below the other what all the patient andRor his relati!es

tell us. 0fter a pause, the mother told me with wide open eyes and learning towards me,

Doctor, e!er since he de!eloped worm complaint he often complains of headache and

!ertigo. hy is it so doctor/E =0n obser!ation that we had repeatedly made in the clinic

was this? In some cases when the patient tells %un+common+rare+strange& symptom, he

#he words %!ertigo and headache& told by the mother which is an %uncommon& symptom

    thirty+se!en remedies gi!en under the chapter *$ 0FFBC#I*N3 in Gilienthal . #his

remedy in ';;th potency, single dose, cured worm symptoms as well as his skin

AS! /: 1ifteen years of sore throat and constipation completely and permanently cured

    with one single dose.

    4e replied?

In this case only one symptom is prominent K U e!ening, night.E

I went through all the remedies under the chapter '!%" #%!A# in Gilienthal. #he

symptom U e!eningE was found under the remedies  Alumina2 epar2 ,atr. mur and

Further, under the remedy 0lumina the words clergyman&s sore throat U e!ening and

nightwith husky !oiceE suited the case. 2ust to confirm the remedy since it is one of

the remedies for chronic and obstinate constipation" I asked him about his bowel

mo!ements, to which he replied that he would pass stool once in )+1 days.

0lumina+(;$, single dose, cured his chronic sore throat as well as constipation. I ne!er

knew that he got complete cure till one day when I casually !isited the temple in which

that priest was doing poojas. I had e!en forgotten him. Gooking at me he immediately

remo!ed a big garland from around the neck of the deity and put it on me this is a sign

of honoring .I.7.s in 4indu temples". I was rather puHHled. 4e ga!e me fruits etc., and

came out with me till the entrance while .I.7s were waiting by paying hea!y amount

etc. #hat night I narrated this to my house+owner who does part+time work in that

temple and he said that I was honoured because my prescription of one single dose

completely cured that priest, which he used to recall almost daily.

Oes, drop the symptom in Gilienthal and you get the remedyJ
