Her grandparents had found it difficult to keep in touch with the friends and family they left behind in India because they were not tech savvy with Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Skype, Facetime, Twitter, Tumblr, or even text for that matter. Realizing this, Vishwabhan decided to teach her grandparents how to use a laptop. Every day, during the summer after her eighth grade, she started spending time with them, showing them cool features. Within a few weeks, they came up to speed, and they were able to enjoy the same TV shows they left behind in India, she told IndiaWest in a press note. Vishwabhan’s grandmother even opened a Facebook account, and became active connecting with family and friends via social networking. In order to give that same experience to other seniors, Vishwabhan Stuti Vishwabhan teaching seniors in her class on how to email via her course curriculum. Seniors Be Tech Savvy

When   her   grandparents   recently   visited   her   home,   StutiVishwabhan,   a   sophomore   from   Presentation   High   School   here,became  suddenly  aware   that   there   is  a  generation  of  people  whoare  struggling  to  keep  pace  with  all  the  latest  strides  being  made  intelecommunication  technology.

founded  an  organization  called  Teach  Seniors  Technology,  a  non-­profit  organization  that  aims  to  give  back  to  the  senior  community.  

The   organization’s   mission   is   to   bridge   the   generation   gap   byeducating   seniors   about   technology   so   that   they   can   remainconnected   and   play   a   meaningful   role   in   the   lives   of   their   lovedones.  

In   order   to   fulfill   her  mission,   Vishwabhan   started   volunteering   atlocal   community   senior   living   centers.   She   wrote   to   the   BelmontSenior  Living  Center  and  began  teaching  seniors  about  topics  suchas  social  networking,  surfing  the  web,  and  operating  the  basics  ofcomputers.  

Radhika   Singh,   the   activities   director   and   coordinator   of   theBelmont   Senior   Living   Center,   wrote,   “The   course   program   you(Vishwabhan)   taught   was   well-­crafted,   and   your   (Vishwabhan’s)delivery   to   our   residents   was   very   person   centered.   I   sincerelythank  you  for  taking  the  initiative  on  this  class  and  appreciate  yourdedication  to  serve  the  community.”  

Vishwabhan   has   also   received   support   from   the   San   Jose   CityCouncil.

Recently,  the  teenager  has  been  working  with  the  Almaden  BranchSan  Jose  Public  Library  and  will  be  starting  her  organization  thereshortly.  She  hopes  that  she  will  be  able  to  work  with  other  centersin  the  near  future.  Her  goal  is  to  make  her  organization  statewide.

Over  the  last  year,  Vishwabhan’s  organization  has  grown  and  like-­minded  leaders  have  joined.  Swathi  Ramprasad,  the  vice  presidentof  the  organization,  is  another  avid  and  keen  leader  who  volunteersher  time  and  effort  at  Teach  Seniors  Technology.
