The holidays are almost here and we are looking forward to a change of pace after
such an amazing, productive term. Highlights of this term include; the vibrant
Colour Run, Athletics Carnival, multiple Performing Arts events at the Opera House,
celebrating Education Week with our community, a multitude of sports
opportunities including recent Basketball workshops, fabulous PSSA progress, the
development of our students in the Stage 1 Swimming program, Premier’s
challenges including Spelling, Debating, Reading and fitness, increasing student voice
in our classrooms, showcasing our school facilities and more importantly sharing the
contemporary, high quality teaching and learning within the great learning spaces,
and finishing off with not just a whole school musical, but some fabulous excursions,
like today’s Stage 2 excursion to the Zoo and Kindergarten’s trip to the Farm on
Friday.
We thank our collaborative and committed staff who provide rich learning
opportunities for our students. We thank our community for your ongoing support
and commitment and we wish all our students, families and staff a wonderful, safe
spring break. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 14th October, when we
all return for Term 4.

Extra-Curricular Excellence
We are proud to acknowledge the efforts and enthusiasm of those who auditioned for the Australian
Girls’ Choir this week. Equally impressive was the participation and dedication of our School
Spectacular Dance Team at their first School Spectacular rehearsal. We also congratulate Akshath S,
Ridhwan M, Sushen J, and Samuel S for their participation in the regional finals of the Premier’s
Spelling Bee.
All four students proudly represented Homebush West Public School, made an outstanding effort and
placed well in the competition. We congratulate Akshath S who placed first in regionals and will now
be representing our school at the state finals in Term 4. Well done.
Community Baby Shower: Last week our Chaplian, Mrs Prouty and the Kindergarten team hosted a community baby shower for Mrs Cini. This is Mrs Cini’s last week, prior to maternity leave. We thank Mrs Cini for her contributions to the students this year and wish her all the best for the time ahead with her family.
Swimming Scheme Year 3-6 Term 4 Our goal is to ensure every student at Homebush West PS can safely enter and exit water. We aim for every child to be able to swim 25m confidently. This aim is shared with P&C and we hope all parents will sign up to join in in achieving this for every student, for their safety and well-being. We look forward to next term’s 2-week program. We will survey all parents and students to ensure that our programs can achieve their outcomes and our initiatives and aims and shared. WoodiWild Tree Planting Fundraiser As you are aware, we launched our Woodiwild P&C school fundraiser in Week 8. This is an excellent initiative with the purpose of re-planting trees on farms across Australia to provide habitats for our threatened wildlife. Our school community has the opportunity to purchase a tree to go in the Great Aussie Schools Forest.
You will receive a unique map reference for your tree and can follow the growth of the micro
forest on Google Maps on the Woodiwild website.
Trees are only $10 each, you and your child can name your tree and watch it grow, and improve
local habitat.
$2 from every sale goes to the school P&C.
Head to the WoodiWild website, find the 'school' tab and search for Homebush West Public School. Or follow this link— https://woodiwild.org/homebush-west-public-school/ Emma Tamsett, Relieving Principal Coming Up Term 4, Week 2 2019 All Week - Swim Scheme New Ruby House and Vice Captains Olivia S, incumbent Ruby House Captain, has recently moved overseas. This presented a leadership vacancy in the mighty red ‘Ruby’ house. As always polling results from 2018 were reviewed and it is with pleasure to announce Niyoosha is now the House Captain, Ruby, with Alisha instated as the new Vice-Captain of Ruby. Congratulations to Niyoosha and Alisha!

Selective High School Applications for 2021 Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials. Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 12 March 2020. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from late-September 2019 at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The application website opens at that link on 8 October 2019 and closes at 10pm on 11 November 2019. You must apply before the closing date. Mr Fung

Have Your Say on Before and After School Care The NSW Government is committed to providing before and after school care to all students of public primary schools in New South Wales. As part of the reform, a parent web form has been established by Service NSW that will enable parents to tell the department about their specific care needs and to stay up to date with any new developments. The information provided by parents will help the Department of Education to understand your needs, give them insights into where there are gaps in service delivery and help to ensure the extra places are delivered where they are required. Have you say today at https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc

Father’s Day Fun Photo Booth Students had a wonderful time making a fun, individual photo for someone special in their life. They loved seeing their photo printed out! Some parents suggested we offer magnetic fridge frames, so we did, but lots of students chose the IKEA frames similar to Mother’s Day. Thank you to all parent helpers. It is a lot of work organising and planning, setting up, packing up and running the event. Your time and effort is much appreciated. We know it can be tricky to fit in everything needed in a week and we truly value the hours you volunteer to help the school. A big thank you to teachers and school staff, your reminders and encouragement make all the difference for these activities. Thank you to the families who supported our fundraiser, we loved helping your children make a special photo gift! We made a profit of $1,513.89. Do you have any feedback or questions? Contact the P&C [email protected]
P&C Update – Uniform Shop At the P&C meeting earlier this term we discussed the future of the Uniform Shop. As discussed at many previous meetings over many years there are ongoing difficulties in finding volunteers to coordinate and assist with the Uniform Shop. There is also a need to offer uniform sales online and it is difficult to continue to have physical space onsite for the Uniform Shop as the school grows. The P&C voted unanimously for the management of Uniform Shop to be transferred to the school. This is planned from Day 1, Term 1, 2020. The Uniform Shop has been run for over 25 years by parents who have given up their valuable time to assist our school community. Uniforms have been sold to families for very low prices due to the hours of time each week donated by parent volunteers. As the P&C has done for so long, the school will continue to run the Uniform Shop as a service to families, which includes pricing for affordability. The P&C Executive would like to take this opportunity to thank all previous and current Uniform Shop coordinators & volunteers for investing their time, energy and efforts to ensure the smooth functioning of the Uniform Shop. This has been a challenging, at times stressful task and we are all grateful.
‘Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in’ (author unknown).
If you have questions or concerns regarding the transfer of the Uniform Shop or other school matters, please come along to the next P&C meeting Monday 21st October 7 pm. Email the P&C Executive [email protected] or speak to any P&C Executive, see below.
