The OLPH parish would like to extend a sincere thank you to the couple who generously donated the four beautiful chairs which will be used as seating for the ushers. As long-time members, they asked that they remain anonymous, recommending the well-used chairs that are being replaced be given away or disposed of.

OLPH Fall Festival

For centuries, the Christians in and around Bethlehem have earned a living by carving religious olive wood art to sell to visiting pilgrims. Fewer pilgrims are journeying to the Holy Land today, making it difficult for those Christians to support their families. As a result, there has been a dramatic rise in Christian emigration from the Holy Land. Now, less than 1% of the population in the Holy Land is Christians.

When Blest Art visits your parish, we will have hand-carved nativity sets, statues, crosses, rosaries, and many other pieces of beautiful olive wood art. We invite you to visit our display and to consider purchasing a piece of art from the Holy Land. In doing so, you will help support the many families who depend on this form or art for their living. Your purchase will make a difference in the lives of many Christian families. We gladly accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.

Please visit our display at your parish on Saturday,

June 30 and Sunday, July 1st, 2018 after each Mass.

The Seven Sisters Apostolate

The Seven Sisters Apostolate is a prayer ministry for our parish priests. Seven women commit to offering a Holy Hour once a week exclusively for Father Phil, another seven for Father Brost, and another seven for Father David. Each woman prays anytime on the same day of the week at the hour of her choice for one year (June to June) preferably in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament (tabernacle). If this is not possible, then the Holy Hour may be offered in another place, or one can secure a substitute. Our parish currently has three Seven Sisters groups. We are seeking women willing to serve as substitutes for these groups.

Please contact Wendy Plawski at 715-748-3863, or by email [email protected] for more information. Thank you.

From the Principal’s Desk

We, at Holy Rosary School, are grateful our parents decided to send their children here. This year they’ve delivered items to Indianhead Food Pantry, Hannah Center, Shirley’s House of Hope, and raised funds so that a school in Africa could have water. Our students led Tuesday Prayers services and prepped for Wednesday Masses. They helped to collect soap and shampoo for Veterans, went caroling around the Holy Rosary neighborhood, and they participated in both a Christmas Program and a Last Supper. There’s a certain feeling that comes with doing all of these — sometimes we hear God by feeling his presence. We return these students to you a bit taller and wiser.

On behalf of the faculty and staff — it is bittersweet as we say farewell to Mr. Kevin Hall, Mrs. Diana Nikkila, and Ms. Leann Kunze. We, at Holy Rosary, wish them well on their new endeavors. We have hired Kari Brost as our 4K Teacher. Kari attended Holy Rosary School and is a recent graduate of UW-River Falls. We will keep you posted as we hire a Music Teacher and Teacher Assistant.

Blessings,

Mrs. Debbie Johnston, Principal

Religious Education

“News You Need to Know”

Totus Tuus Registration — TOTUS TUUS is a summer catechetical program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith. "TOTUS TUUS" was a motto of Blessed John Paul II that means "Totally Yours." The goal of TOTUS TUUS is to help young people develop their relationship with Jesus Christ and strive to become saints! TOTUS TUUS strives to help young people to know and love their faith so that they may live it in today’s world. We do this in such a way that it is fun and formative for both teachers and youth alike.

Sign up today for a fun filled week learning about and growing your faith. The forms to register are now available on the parish website at www.hrmedford.org. You can also pick up the registration forms in the parish office. Totus Tuus will be held at Holy Rosary July 8th thru July 13th. If you have any questions please contact Mike or Amy at the parish office to learn more about Totus Tuus.

Cans for Kids — Last week when giving you an update about the Cans for Kids program I forgot to thank two very special people. Don and Jan Hessefort collect the cans from the drop off sites and take then to the recycling center. Their efforts help raise much needed funds for the students in the Religious Education Program. Thank you Don and Jan Hessefort for all you do for our parish!!

Parish Updates and Information — In order to better

communicate with more members of our Parish Cluster, we would like to try something new. If you would provide us with your email address we would like to send out a

monthly email that will keep you updated on coming events. Give you some resources to view that might help you stay connected to church, news in the Diocese and maybe help you grow your faith. We promise not to flood your inbox with daily or weekly emails. Just an occasional message that might help in your daily lives. We would like to provide you with short video clips from various resources. Provide you with links where you can access information about the church. All you have to do is give us your email address. You can send your email address to me Mike Bub at [email protected] or you can drop off a note with your email address at the parish office.

If you have any questions or comments concerning the Religious Education Program please contact me via email at [email protected] or call 715-748-3336 x248.

Thank you, Michael Bub

Everyday Stewardship

What power lies in a name? Have you ever met a "David," "Holly," or "Jack" and said, "They don't look like a David, Holly, or Jack"? Sometimes our name actually adds something to our person. Peculiar people sometimes have peculiar names. Some people of tremendous strength have names that we deem strong as well. Sometimes we give nicknames to people because of some attributes they exhibit. In the Bible, names mean a lot. Saul changes his name to Paul when he converts. Adam means "man," as in the first man. Eve means "to live" or "to breathe." Elizabeth took great care to name her son John as God commanded, even if other family members did not understand why such a unique name not found in their lineage. It was a unique name for a child who had a unique future of preparing the way for the Messiah.

We have our baptismal names, our surnames, our Confirmation names, and our maiden names. But all disciples of Jesus also bear the same name: Christian. People may wonder what does a David, Holly, or Jack really look like, but they should never wonder what a Christian looks like. Unfortunately, too often those who bear this name don't resemble the characteristics embodied in the name. Simply, a Christian looks like Christ. A Christian acts like Christ. A Christian truly is Christ to a world that seeks to uncover the true meaning of his name.
