We received a telephone call from the
manager of Rulers. She requested that
the parishioners do not use the area
behind the store - back door and
dumpster area - for parking on
Sunday mornings. They receive deliveries while
Mass is in session. There have been several times
when either cars have come close to being hit or the
End of Year Giving As we quickly come to the end of another
calendar year, we invite you to please consider
making a year-end contribution to the parish. If
your gift is made by December 31, 2017 you'll be
able to take advantage of a full year tax
deduction. This year is even more important as
your year-end giving will help us put to rest our
"mortgage debt." We are so close to having it
paid down and could most certainly do it by
January with a little help from your year-end
giving. Thanks for all of your support and
considering this great chance to make us
"mortgage debt" free.
God Bless,
Fr. Jason Gries

We have some very exciting news! The Schnucks Supermarket located at 3700 First Ave. has chosen Holy Redeemer Catholic School as the latest beneficiary of the Schnuck’s – Bags 4 My Cause program! This means for the entire month of December, every time the reusable Giving bag with the message “Giving is in the Bag” is purchased at the First Avenue
Schnuck’s we receive $1! This is truly a great opportunity for us and an easy way for you to show your support for our school! Please go to the store, find the reusable bag rack and buy a few Giving bags! And remember to spread the word – the more bags purchased, the bigger donation to Holy Redeemer School. For more information about the Schnucks – Bags 4 My
Cause program, visit schnucks.bags4mycause.com.
Second grade had a very special November. The
students received their first reconciliation. They
felt blessed to receive God's grace and many can't
wait for their second reconciliation. They even
completed advice columns for children scared to
receive reconciliation. In math we have been
focusing on learning how to subtract two-digit
numbers, and why borrowing works. Over
Thanksgiving break, students finished chapter
books an d we are preparing to write book
reviews. For some students that was their first
chapter book! We are looking forward to
preparing for Jesus during the Advent Season!
Fourth grade has an exciting ending to our first
semester coming up later this month! We have just
begun reading Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
and are going to be focusing on setting and plot
during our reading. We are also using our
imaginations to create fictional Christmas stories
filled with many interesting adjectives and
descriptions. We can't wait to showcase our final
projects by visiting first grade to present our
work! In math, we are working hard at fractions
by finding equivalent fractions as well as adding
and subtracting them. In science, we are getting
ready to study the phases of the moon and its
impact on the Earth. In social studies, we will be
finishing our study of the French and Indian War
and beginning our work on American Revolution
and its effect on the people who are living in the
land that is now Indiana. In religion, we are
preparing for Christmas by going on a Holy
Heroes Advent Adventure and participating in a
Math-A-Thon to raise money for the children at
St. Jude Children's Hospital. While it is
bittersweet to already be wrapping up our first
semester together, I know great things are coming
up during second semester!

Last weekend I gave a fiscal year end presentation and asked for a pledged renewal of
stewardship of treasure. It certainly isn't the most exciting part of my priesthood, but I know
that it is necessary so that our parish family is better informed on how things are going and how
your giving is being used. We all need a reminder yearly as well about how we are giving and
called to give sacrificially to make even more possible at Holy Redeemer. If you did not get to
hear the presentation or would like to relisten to it and see the handout, please visit the
parish website. There is a page dedicated to both. We have much to celebrate as we heard
& saw this last weekend. If you were not with us at Masses at Holy Redeemer last
weekend or didn't complete the pledge card, I ask you to prayerfully consider completing it
to be turned in soon. You can drop it in the collection basket or mail/drop it off to the
office. We will be following up with everyone we have not heard from after the first of the
year so that we can have a better idea of our Sunday and Holy Day giving as we'll approach our new budget.
It is only with all of us together that we can continue our great strides as a parish family.
We continue our Advent journey as the great celebration of Christ's birth quickly approaches. In the midst
of the busyness of the season, are you prepared to truly celebrate Christ's birth with more than just greeting
cards, baked goods, presents and decorations? There is still a week left. Take the time this week to slow
down from all that society tells you that you must be doing & prepare your heart. Look at the daily scripture
readings, make the time for reconciliation, take some time in prayer maybe even in the adoration chapel,
make it to Mass an extra day this week...there are countless ways that you can be more prepared over this
next week. Don't let the opportunity slip past you because you are too focussed on so many other things.
God Bless,
Fr. Jason Gries
