August 2019 Edition
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Holy Day of Obligation Thursday, August 15th
On August 15th we celebrate “The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven” at the end
of her earthly life. The Feast of the Assumption is a very old feast of the Church,
celebrated universally since the sixth century. It commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven, before her body could begin to decay - - a foretaste of
our own bodily resurrection at the end of time. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin’s passing into eternal life, it
is the most important of all Marian feasts.

Do you have a prayer request?
You can submit it on the Holy Cross App!
Just go to the Prayer button, and on the bottom of the screen (right side) there is a button that says Request. Just tap on that, fill out the form, and hit submit!
**There is a checkbox that says Let Others Know. If you don’t check the box, your request will only go to the Prayer Chain. If you do check that box, your request will also be added to the prayer names in the bulletin.

Holiday Collections” Craft/Vendor Show. The region’s largest church-held
craft event with over 80
participants. Holy Cross
Catholic Church will again be
hosting our 10th annual Holiday
Craft/Vendor Show at Holy Cross Catholic Church and the
Trinity Elementary Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 7 from
9:00 am – 3:00 pm - NOTE NEW HOURS!! If you are a
member of Holy Cross and are an artisan, craftsperson or
vendor (sell a product out of your home or at home
parties), please call Geri Harbeke at 277-9681 as soon as
possible. ALL Holy Cross Parishioners get the
opportunity to be first in line to sign up for this event
(unless we already have that vendor or that type of
craft). This is a growing event and we are in need of
volunteers to help as well as volunteers to provide food
and to work in the kitchen. If you can assist in any way,
please contact Geri Harbeke at 277-9681
If you make lefse, we need you! The lady who made it for us in the past to sell at our "Holiday Collections" Craft Show will be making the rest of her Norwegian delicacies, but will not be making lefse this year. If you make lefse
& you want to have it available to sell at our craft show on Dec. 7 at Holy Cross, please contact Geri Harbeke & we'll get you set up. No one else will be selling lefse, so you'd be exclusive. 701-277-9681. Thank You.
Back to School Supplies Backpack Project
All too soon, the stores will be rotating their merchandise to accommodate school supplies. Notebooks, backpacks, crayons, markers…the list goes on! We can all remember what it was like to open that new box of crayons on the first day of school and the colorful new folders for homework and bringing home projects that you completed.
The Social Action Group has an annual school supply drive in hopes of packing enough school supplies to pack 75 backpacks. We will deliver them to the schools in the West Fargo School District. Your generous efforts have helped so many children over the years. A new box of crayons can be quietly slipped to the student who doesn’t have one. A bottle of glue can be given to a student who never gets the empty one replaced. The student who only has 1 notebook can be given another one. Scissors that have gone lost or funds weren’t available to buy can be offered. Sometimes families go through medical and financial hardships and the school supply list of the broken, lost or used up school supplies gets lost in a sea of bills and forgotten about when families are dealing with a crisis. Sometimes kids don’t even ask and do without because they know there is barely money for food and they don’t want to ask for that new bottle of glue. What you donated can then be given to help the children with their needs and help eliminate some of the stress and worry at home..
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you……….. • For the back pack that you bought on clearance for $5 or the full priced one for $25. • The school supplies you bought because your own kids are gone and have all grown up and
you miss shopping for school supplies. • The $5 cash or the check you put into an envelope marked School Supplies so we would
supplement what we could use more of. • The 20 bottles of glue you bought when you walked by and saw they were .10 each. Your $2
made 20 children’s hearts soar! You have been so helpful and generous in the past and we look forward to organizing the school supply drive again this year! July 27 through August 11 are the dates for this year. If you have any questions, please call Penne at Holy Cross 282-7217 or Linda Schroeder 282-3097
Uganda Water Well Project Update A total of $10,283.35 was raised to build a well in Uganda!
Thank you to all the groups who helped in some way to raise money for this project: American Heritage Girls, Catholic Daughters, Knights of Columbus, Trinity Elementary students & staff, and Holy Cross Parishioners.
Thank you to all who donated and attended the Wild Game Feed to help make it a success.
Thank you to all who made a purchase for the Tupperware fundraiser.
Allow me to introduce myself; I am Darryl Lutovsky and I will be coordinating RCIA classes this year. My wife Rene’ and I have been members of Holy Cross since 2001.
For the past 13 years, I have been involved with the Holy Cross RCIA program as a team member, sponsor, and now the group leader.
This is an invitation to become part of the RCIA Team or to become a candidate working towards full initiation in the Rites of the Catholic Church next Easter. If you are interested in joining the Catholic Church, an adult that never received the sacrament of confirmation, or are interested in learning more about the teachings of the faith, please call the parish office at 282-7217.
Classes will begin on September 15th in the Multipurpose Room. We will be using, “We Believe”, a survey of the Catholic Faith by Father Lukefahr as the main reference book, along with the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Holy Bible.
I will be in contact with everyone interested in the RCIA Program with more details or to answer questions.
Thank you, Darryl Lutovsky.
Attention Fishermen & Hunters! Keep us in mind as you are on the lake or out on the hunt!
We will be looking for all kinds of food items for the Wild Game Feed in January!
*Proceeds for the next Wild Game Feed will go to the Alpha Christian Children’s Home in Perry, Kansas.
Catechists & Assistants Needed Parents are the first and most important educators of their children. But adults who are willing to share their
love, support, and faith as catechists and assistant catechists also influence the hearts of children.
We are grateful to those who are willing to share the gifts of time, skills, and faith in our parish programs. We
invite each of you, whether you have children in the program or not, to consider making this commitment to
your Church, and to our children.

Saturdays at 3:30 pm Sundays at 7:00 am
Are you or someone you care about unable to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion?
There are several communion distributors who will bring the Lord to you. The need could be temporary or ongoing. Call the church and let us know. We will contact you to determine what time would be good for us to visit with communion.
Eucharistic Adoration is every Monday from 9am to 8pm. If you are interested in becoming a scheduled adorer, one hour per week, call the parish office for more information.
In Care of the sick Please call the parish office to notify us of illness in the family. The local hospitals do not call us anymore.
New Members If you wish to become members of Holy Cross, please contact the parish office (282-7217).
Simplicity Giving A funds transfer service to assist parishioners to reach their financial stewardship goals. Contact the office manager for more information.
