This project plan is intended to provide the basis

for establishing a road side rest station for

holiday travelers. The information contained in

this guide has been developed by the Texas Jaycees

who provide this service as a state-wide project

during three or more holiday weekends. The United

States Jaycees is grateful to the Texas Jaycees and

their co-sponsor, Royal Globe Insurance for sharingwith our nation the details of this program.

10. Secure local donation of small souvenier items such as

balloons, matches, candy, key chains, gum and such.

11. Secure a guest register for people to sign - This book

will assist in keeping count of visitors.

a. Name - Address - Number in Party - Destination

12. Secure state road maps and major metro-cities in your area.

Secure safety posters and safe driving literature.

Secure photos of auto wrecks from newspapers to post onbulletin board.

Manpower Chairman

A. Secure firm commitments from your members early.

B. It is best to run the men in four (4) hour shifts around the clock.

C. We strongly suggest you acquire the Jaycee-Ettes assistance at therest stop at any time.

D. There should be a minimum of at least two (2) Jaycees at the rest

stop at all times.

E. Secure the assistance of local Boy Scout Troop for additonal

manpower.

A. Coffee

1•. Usually will be donated by local merchants.

B. Soft Drinks

1. Usually will be donated by local merchants.

C. Cookies, Donuts or Cake.

NOTE: Ask the merchant you trade with in your community several weeksahead of time to donate the refreshments. Be sure to give

recognition to those who contribute and to send thank you notes.

SUCCESSFUL REST STOP

DO'S AND DON'TS

DO

1. Welcome all travelers and make them feel at home.

2. Clean windshield and headlights of cars that stop.

3. Inform travelers of road conditions.

4. Inform travelers of expected weather conditions.

5. Dart games, horseshoes, or other games may be provided.

6. Give travelers self-addressed cards to be mailed backto chapter on their safe arrival home.

7. Keep death count on blackboard.

8. Post photos of bad wrecks on bulletin board.

9. Have clean rest room facilities.

10. Have facilities where visitors can rest.

11. Keep good records for your chapter.

DON'T

1. Require travelers to stop.

2. Create a traffic hazard.

3. Run out of supplies.

4. Let work schedules get messed up.

5. Have any intoxicating beverages around rest stop.

6. Ask for donations from visitors for local chapterreimbursements.

7. Use wrecked car displays.
