Day 1 (59 mi.) — Cross the scenic Big Bear Valley before an exhilarating, twisting descent into the high desert. Then pay the piper with a solid climb up and over Goat Mt. Pass before a gradual cruise into Barstow on this second shortest day.

Day 2 (84 mi.) — Joshua trees wave you onward as you traverse the starkly beautiful landscape, over long stretches perfect for pacelines, past old min-ing towns and up one good climb, finishing with a steady downhill sprint into Ridgecrest.

Day 3 (80 mi.) — Hawks and fighter jets cavort above as you gradually ascend into the Owens Val-ley, painted with yellow sagebrush, blue lakes and red cinder cones, ending by Lake Diaz’s sparkling waters under Mt. Whitney’s massive granite flanks.

Day 4 (60 mi.) — Paralleling the magnificent Sierra crest, this flattest day eases along green pastures and fish hatcheries, past historic Manzanar, and through the bucolic hamlets of Independence and Big Pine, undulating its way to the mountain gateway of Bishop.

Day 5 (52 mi.) — Morning sun and glittering aspens glow on the peaks as gurgling streams and regal sycamores urge you toward, up and over scenic and sinuous Old Sherwin Grade, where fragrant pines and one last climb salute your arrival at Mammoth.

The

RID

EThe 23rd Annual Peak to Peak Pedal (P2P23) enables the United States Adaptive Recre-ation Center (USARC) to continue offering unique and life-changing outdoor thera-peutic recreation programs to children and adults with physical or cognitive disabilities.

The only on-site, year-round program of its kind in the region, the USARC provides lessons and equipment enabling persons with disability to spend their winters snow skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Complementing that is an unrivaled summer program teaching water skiing, paddling, sailing, fishing, Jet Skiing and off-road down-hill wheelchairs.

The sensation of freedom you experience, each time you ride a bike (or do any other recreational pursuit), is exactly what the US-ARC has done for over 25 years for thousands of people who would otherwise not have such liberating and rewarding opportunities.

Your support, be that as a P2P23 rider, or do-nating to the ride, ensures the USARC will be able to continue providing the opportunities for everybody to feel the freedom!
