Anne of Cleves House Weddings, Civil Ceremonies and Functions

Hidden away in the Southover area of Lewes, Anne of Cleves House offers couples peace and romance away from the hectic pace of everyday life.

Granted to Anne of Cleves by Henry VIII, the building has a long and colourful history. From its early days as a lodging for pilgrims, to the present, where it is home to an eclectic local history museum, Anne of Cleves House has been providing a warm welcome to visitors for over six hundred years.

A truly unique venue steeped in character and charm, Anne of Cleves invites you to share your day with us and to add your own page to its story.

The East Room with its oak beams, leaded windows and huge medieval fireplace offers the per-fect romantic setting for your civil ceremony. Flowers add to the atmosphere in summer and in the winter a log fire burns, lending a warm glow to the room.

An audience of up to fifty guests may share in your day, seated in rows facing the top table where couples exchange their vows.

Lewes Castle Weddings, Civil Ceremonies and Functions

Lewes Castle is one of the few wedding venues in the South East where vows can be exchanged in the open air in glorious surroundings.

Standing proudly at the heart of the beautiful South Downs, the castle offers you and your guests a unique, historic venue, with unrivalled hilltop views, southwards to the sea, and northwards towards the Weald.

Built more than 900 hundred years ago as a Norman stronghold, its first owners were William de Warenne and his beloved wife Gundrada. Now we invite you too, to share in the Castle’s ro-mance and become a part of its never-ending story.

Under the glorious Sussex sky, brides make their way to the top of the Keep, replacing the traditional walk down the aisle with that of the zigzag steps.

Ceremonies are held in the stunning setting of the Pleasure Garden, where the bride and groom are married under the arch of the medieval West Tower.

An audience of up to eighty guests (50 seated and 30 standing) may share in your ceremony from under the shade of the lime tree.

From the high towers of Lewes Castle guests can see far and wide into the distant countryside. From the twisting streets of the original medieval town across to the rolling South Downs the views are truly spectacular and provide an unbeatable backdrop for photographs.

After the ceremony the party may descend to the lower Gun Garden where many couples choose to arrange for their own food and drink to be served by our in-house staff or outside caterers.

Here too, you can be joined by up to a hundred friends and relatives. What better way to cel-ebrate a special day or mark a special occasion than spending the day at Lewes Castle!
