HINARI Training Material

• Go to http://www.who.int/hinari/training/en/

– quarterly updated training material online

• Material can be edited/changed for local training

• All the material can be downloaded from the training page – either PowerPoint presentations or Word documents or PDFs

• Some of the larger PPT presentations are divided into parts (e.g. Part A, B &C); either download the complete file OR the sections of the files but not both

• If you have problems downloading the training material, write to Lenny Rhine (rhinel@ufl.edu)

This is the 1st slide of the distance learning version of the Short Course. It uses the Moodle software (an online course management system) and is accessible from mla.mrooms.org Also available is the HINARI Train the Trainers Course.

All R4L programme Short Courses also are available from the ITOCA website – primarily for those in sub-Saharan Africa. Go to moodle.itoca.org for more information.

• Material owned by the Publishers made available through HINARI can be used by Authorized Users or Walk-in Users

• An Authorized User: an institution’s or government department’s employee, permanent or visiting faculty, or student

• Walk-in User: anyone who comes to the Institution’s premises and is permitted by the Institution to access services there

You can modify any of the material to fit your local training needs:

To replace ‘screen captures’:– display the screen you want– click on the ‘print screen’ key - usually top/right of

keyboard– open the ‘Paint’ program and paste the image

(control/v); to open ‘Paint’ – go to Programs, (Windows) Accessories, Paint

– To edit the image, use the ‘crop’ icon to limit content)

– copy again (control/c) and paste in document Note: You can delete the ‘paint’ program step and

paste the screen capture directly into your document.

We have accessed the PubMed Tutorial page. In the left frame is a table of contents of the course.

Now opened is the PubMed Resources Guide page. There are links to numerous pages on News, Overviews, Journals, Data Structure & Content, Policies, etc.

The next 4 slides discuss IMARK,  a set of self-paced e-learning modules on information and knowledge management developed by an international partnership led by FAO.  It is a valuable resource to learn about strategies, methodologies and tools for the effective management of information, and it compliments the HINARI training material.  The url is listed at the top.

This slide is an overview of how each Resource Kit is constructed and used. Log in is required but is free.

This module would be of particular interest to HINARI users as it discusses Digital Libraries, Repositories and Documents.

Users can obtain free CD-ROM versions of all the modules from FAO.

This is the Training Courses page of INASP. The U.K. based ngo has developed numerous information literacy training courses that also would compliment the HINARI training material. The url is listed at the top and the courses can be downloaded.

AuthorAID provides networking, mentoring, resources and training for researchers from developing countries. For some options, individuals are required to register but it is free. The url is listed at the top.
