Dear Friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the Board Members of the “Lebanese Society for General Surgery” it’s our great pleasure to welcome you to the “22nd Annual Spring Lebanese Congress of Surgery”.

Three days of interactive discussion are planned with special focus on hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, abdominal wall surgery, bariatric surgery. An exceptional series of video sessions will take place and for the second consecutive year a Best Resident Communication will be awarded. A dedicated session for dietitians is also on the agenda to foster a multidisciplinary approach for optimal patient’s outcome.

A national and international group of eminent speakers will share their knowledge and make our program a success.

Year after year our society is proud to consolidate its collaboration with the French Association of Surgery (AFC) and societies from the Arab Word specially form Egypt, Jordan, and Kuwait.

Dr Al Hadad is a Consultant Bariatric Surgeon and Head of the Centre of

Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in Abu Dhabi. He has extensive experience

of advanced laparoscopic, bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery.

Mohammed AL HADAD, MD, FRCS (Glasg), FACS

Dr Al-Sabah is currently the Director of Surgical Research and the

Chairman of Surgery at Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Hospital, Kuwait as well

as an Assistant Professor at Kuwait University. His principle clinical focuses

are metabolic/bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, advanced

endoscopy, health policy and research. He is a board member, founder and

President of the Gulf Obesity Surgery Society, Founder and President of the

Kuwait Association of Surgeons and the Governor at the American College

of Surgeons.

Salman AL-SABAH, MD, MBA, FRCSC, FACS

Pr Alqahtani is a Professor and a Consultant of MIS and Obesity Surgery at

King Saud University. He is the Director of King Saud’s University’s Obesity

Chair and one of the prominent bariatric surgeons worldwide. He is the

Past President of the International Pediatric Endoscopy Group (IPEG);

Founder and Past President of its Middle East Chapter and President of Pan

Arab Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (PASMBS).

Aayed ALQAHTANI, MD, FRCSC, FACS

Emeritus professor at the University of Paris 7, Pr Belghiti directed nearly 20

years the department of digestive surgery and liver transplantation of

Beaujon Hospital at the APHP until 2014. He has been elected as head of

several international surgical and transplantation companies. He is a

member of the Academy of Medicine and an honorary member of many

international scholarly societies. He was a member of the college of the

High Authority of Health and chaired the commission of evaluation of the

devices and medical acts.

Jacques BELGHITI, MD

Pr Chouillard is the Chief of Department of General and Minimally Invasive

Surgery at Paris Poissy Saint-Germain Medical Center Since 2016. He is the

president of the INOELS society of minimally invasive surgery. His main fields

of competence are the minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery and

oncological surgery.

Elie CHOUILLARD, MD

Dr Dokmak is a HPB surgeon at Beaujon Hospital (Clichy), University Paris

VII, France. He is an expert in liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, liver and

small bowel transplantation, by open and minimally invasive approaches.

Furthermore, he is one of the pioneers for the development of pancreatic

minimally invasive surgery with personal experience in > 550 cases. He has

developed many innovations in all fields of HPB surgery including mainly the

reconstruction of the vein by the parietal peritoneum.

Safi DOKMAK, MD

Pr Dagher is the Head of the Department of Liver and Minimally Invasive

Surgery at Paris-Sud University Hospitals, Professor of Surgery at Paris XI

University and the Director of the National Master in Surgical Sciences in

France. He has pioneered laparoscopic liver resections, especially

anatomical and major hepatectomies. He developed single-incision

surgery, with successful applications of this approach in hepatobiliary

surgery and bariatric surgery.

Ibrahim DAGHER, MD

Dr Massarut is the Head of the Breast Unit and Director of the Breast Surgery

Department at C.R.O. Aviano. He is a Member of the International Breast

Cancer Study Group and the International Steering Committee of the

TARGIT (TARGeted Intraoperative RadioTherapy); University College of

London. As well, he is a Member of the Melanoma Group and EORTC

European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer.

Pr Meunier is currently the Vice President of the French Association of

Surgery. He is also a surgical oncologist at Ill et Vilaine Department - France,

Surgeon at Rennes University Hospital – France and Professor at the Faculty

of Medicine at Rennes University – France. He was Head of the Surgery Unit

at Regional Centre for the Fight against Cancer Eugène Marquis de Rennes

– France.

Bernard MEUNIER, MD

Samuele MASSARUT, MD

Dr El Hajj joined the medical team at Saint George Hospital University Medical

Center and Clemenceau Medical Center in 2018. He was appointed as an

instructor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver in 2013, then as an

Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University in 2014. He has wide

experience treating all kinds of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, with special

interests in pancreatico-biliary disorders. He has published more than 100

peer-reviewed manuscripts in several international medical journals, and has

written several editorials, reviews, and book chapters.

Ihab EL HAJJ, MD, MPH

Dr Taha is the Chief of Bariatric Surgery Unit at Assuit University Hospital,

Egypt and Professor of Surgery at Assuit University, Egypt. He is the CMO of

Overweight Surgery Clinics, Egypt; Established the bariatric unit, Rashed

Hospital – Dubai and the Bariatric Unit, SKMC, Ajman.

He is a Member of the International Leadership for the Surgery of Obesity

and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and a Member of Swedish Research group.

He is the Vice President of Egyptian Society of Metabolic and Bariatric

surgery (ESBS).

Osama TAHA, MSC, MD, PhD

Since June 2014, Pr Tuech is the Head of the Department of Digestive

Surgery at the University Hospital of Rouen, France. He is the president of

the GRECCAR (French Research Group of Rectal Cancer Surgery) and a

staff member of the French association of surgery, the EAES (European

Association for Surgical Endoscopy) and the French association of digestive

surgery.
