Hello Sisters!
I can’t believe it is only five short weeks before we begin state
conventions! I can’t wait to attend each and every one of them! I am especially excited about meeting new sisters across our region.
There are so many components to the SCR Conference. Each day
brings us a little bit closer to making it one to remember this summer as details are worked out, speakers are booked, menus
chosen and activities are planned.
There are a lot of changes at this conference that I think you are really going to love. Sometimes it important to try some new and
innovative ways of doing things, but we must also not forget those traditions that are still relevant and important. I am trying to find
the perfect blend of new and old. I think you will enjoy the changes
and I can’t wait for you to see all that is planned!
This entire newsletter is about the SCR conference, and I am super excited to finally get to tell you all about it! I have written
explanations and tidbits about different parts of the conference for this newsletter. Be sure to read each selection carefully so that you
won’t miss a thing this summer. A couple of things to note that were changed by International. The World Understanding Project is no
longer voted on during the regional conferences. Also, there is not a Regionaries Pin for purchase anymore.
The registration form and Enhancement Sessions are all included
and waiting for download! I have also attached an overview of the schedule for you. There are still minor changes being made as I
coordinate last minute details, but this information should help you
in making your travel plans. Chapters and/or states wishing to have an altruistic table will also want to note the application form
included. I have worked hard to keep costs at a minimum for this conference. These costs are less expensive than our last conference which I hope will
increase attendance, but there are still the hotel food costs which are beyond my control. The Hospitality Rooms should help somewhat to defray some cost though. I

am sorry to report that the online registration didn’t work out. There were going to be additional costs involved so it wasn’t a viable option.
I am super excited to tell you about it! Our attendance was down at our last South
Central Conference, but I am hoping to have at least 200 or more this summer to join us in Wichita, so get your sisters together for a road trip to Kansas as we “Reach for the
Stars” in Alpha Delta Kappa!
Much love and big hugs, Cindy
South Central Regional Conference Altruistic Project
Our SCR altruistic project is something that is very
close to my heart. As teachers, children are at the
center of our world and that is just one more reason
why I chose the Confetti Foundation as our altruistic
project. The Confetti Foundation creates birthday boxes to deliver to
children in the hospital on their birthday. It is so hard for a child
to be hospitalized on his/her special day and this foundation
helps to make it a little bit easier by distracting them from their
illness for a little while with some birthday fun. The Little
Moments Big Dreams Celebrations organization works in
conjunction with the Confetti Foundation by also providing a
birthday cake and gift to each child when the boxes are
delivered. In Wichita, these groups service children in both Wesley Children’s hospital and the Pediatric Unit at
St. Francis Hospital.
This year we are not going to be selling anything or asking states to bring something to raffle off in order to
fund the altruistic project. These types of fundraising efforts require sisters to give up their time at the
conference in order to sell and man tables. Since this is a regional altruistic project, I would like to give every
sister in the South Central Region the opportunity to be a part of this project. I am asking that each chapter
donate $20 to fund our SCR altruistic project. If you have a large chapter and feel that you would like give
more, that would be awesome, but if you are a small chapter and don’t feel that $20 is doable, that is okay too.
All donations are appreciated! Your chapter can decide what is best for you. I do hope that you will open your
hearts to these children and give. If you, as an individual, feel led to give, you are also welcome to do so. I have
personally experienced having a child in the hospital for an extended period of time and know how depressing it
is for these children. The Confetti Foundation brings a ray of sunshine and happiness to these children and I
hope that you will join me in helping them to do this for the hospitals in Wichita. Please send all donations to
our SCR Treasurer, Chanetta Case. You will find her information below. Please specify that your donation is
for the altruistic project when sending.

SCR Conference International Guests
I am excited to tell you that we will have five members of International Chapter at our
conference! What an honor to host so many of my fellow International Chapter members!
First, we will be welcoming our International President, Judy Ganzert. Judy joins
us from Virginia. If you haven’t met Judy, you are in for a treat! She is a jewel and
really has a heart for Alpha Delta Kappa. She will be our speaker for the Starlight
Banquet and I am sure you will hear a lot about her International logo, Infinite
Possibilities!
We will also have Immediate Past President, Sue Pelchat as our Executive Board
Representative. Some of you were fortunate enough to attend her International
Convention in Minneapolis last summer. Sue’s sense of humor is infamous! Her wit
and quick quips will keep you laughing during her speech at the Reach for the Stars
Regional Luncheon. Sue is from Connecticut and you will adore her accent!
President-elect Mollie Acosta will also be attending from California. Mollie was
Teacher of the Year in 2017 for the Pioneer Union Elementary School District. She
loves technology and is always ready and willing to help in any way possible! Mollie
also enjoys traveling.
Another International Executive Board member attending will be Charlene Lauria.
Charlene also hails from Connecticut. Charlene is also a retired school teacher
which gives her more time reading, attending UConn Women’s Basketball games as
possible and building complex Lego models!
Last, but certainly not least, is Betty Jo Evers, International Vice-president for
Membership. Betty Jo joins us from Arizona. Betty Jo will be presenting several
membership sessions during our conference. Her heart is in membership and she
is passionate about it. Her enthusiasm for membership is contagious and many of
you will be experiencing this during her sessions.
As you can see, we have guests from across the country and I am thrilled that they have
decided to join us in Kansas!
Rising Star Reception
If this is your first time to attend a Regional Conference, then you won’t want to miss the Rising Star
Reception. Sisters, both biologically and in sorority, Rachel Phelps and Melissa Phelps, will be hosting this
event. They are both so energetic and excited about this reception. They will be giving the ins and outs of the
conference, as well as some fun games and challenges for the conference. Be sure to attend if you are a First
Timer!
Forever Shining Reception
This reception is for sisters who have 25 or more years in Alpha Delta Kappa. These include Silver Sisters,
Sapphire Sisters, Golden Sisters, and Diamond Sisters. Join Chair, Ann Hudson Past International President, for
a time of fellowship with sisters across the region that have reached this milestone.
Ready for some fun,
laughter, prizes and
excitement?
Then you will definitely want to sign up for the
Bunco Bash at SCR Conference! You will join sisters as we roll
the dice for prizes at our Evening of Entertainment! This is strictly a fellowship
and fun event, no fundraising allowed! This night is all about laughter! Appetizers
will be provided and a cash bar will be open. What could be more fun than winning
and or maybe losing, but even when you lose a game, you still win! Losing just means
that you get to move to another table to play with other sisters! Our Conference
Vice-chair, Cheryl Sigel is planning a spectacular night that you won’t want to miss!
Who knows? You might even be lucky enough to visit the money tree or win a prize!
ATTENTION TEXAS SISTERS!
Your President-elect, Betsy Ruckman, has chosen to add your Texas
Breakfast on the registration form for logistical purposes. Please sign
up to fellowship with your Texas sisters at the SCR Conference!
Outstanding Stars Luncheon
This luncheon is for all Past State
Presidents
in attendance and all Past and Present International Chapter Members. You will have an
amazing time fellowshipping with sisters. Please come to this wonderful luncheon
celebrating leaders throughout the years in
Alpha Delta Kappa and the South Central Region.
Starlight Reception and
Banquet Dress up in your finest and come to the
Starlight Reception and Starlight Banquet!
The reception will precede the banquet and
will be held in the Upper Gallery Foyer.
Delicious hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. The Starlight
Banquet is the culmination of our conference activities with our very own International
President Judy Ganzert as our speaker.
This banquet will be the perfect ending to what is sure to be an amazing conference!
What is the Hospitality Room?
This year I am asking that each state host the Hospitality Room for an hour and half each day with two
times one day. Refreshments, snacks and finger foods will be provided for all attendees that would like
to stop by for a snack or just to say hi! The Hospitality Room will be open on two mornings for you to
stop by for a quick breakfast bar, muffin or whatever your host for the day has chosen to provide. This
will help to defray costs for attendees and will also provide an area to socialize with other sisters. The
hotel has provided us a beautiful venue called the Waterford Suite for this with an awesome view from
the 18th floor.
The first night will be hosted by our host state Kansas and will be held in the IVP Suite due to
availability of the Waterford. This will be your first opportunity to reconnect with sisters from across
the region and to meet new sisters!
I hope that you all will take advantage of this room and the thoughtfulness of your South Central
sisters! I also want to personally thank each of our state presidents for their enthusiasm and willingness
to participate in hosting.
Cash and Carry Box Lunches
Cash and carry box lunches will be available in the hallway outside of our
conference session rooms twice during our conference. The schedule is
extremely tight on Saturday, July 25th so we are offering this quick option for
lunch. There is only one restaurant on the premises, which would not allow
time for everyone to get lunch. The menus will be decided at our next site visit, but I am looking at maybe a
salad, wrap or sandwich option with appropriate sides for both. We will also be offering these on Monday,
July 27th.
SCR Conference
