High Functionality Epoxy - Curran is Applying Coating Solutions!

Curran International heat exchanger tube ID coatings have proven to extend reliability and eliminate fouling. Curran 1000T is applied as a homogenous thin film and offers superior adhesion, resistance to thermal cycling, and a “non-stick” hydrophobic finish.

Curran 1000T:

• Eliminates oxidation and scale formation on tubing in cooling water service

• Provides superior foul release, optimizing tube ID flow and eliminating back pressure

• Extends exchanger duty and reliability

Global refinery, petrochemical and power generation clients have found thin film tube coating an economical solution to alloy upgrades for a wide range of exchanger equipment. For more than 20 years Curran International has coated exchanger tube IDs, and it possesses the application expertise for thin film epoxy, baked phenolic and fluoropolymer coating technologies.

Exchanger Tube NDE: NDE data is vital to defining the type of damage mechanism(s) and the variables of the operating process. Therefore, which NDE technique is best for your service? Grade of material, dimensions, process, temperatures, expected damage mechanisms, are factors used in the selection of which NDE method(s) below are selected and provided by Curran International:

• Eddy Current Testing (ECT) -For non-ferrous tubular and surface materials and slightly magnetic and thin wall ferrous materials; qualitative measurements. Detects forms of corrosion, erosion, pitting, cracking, MIC (microbiological induced corrosion), coating measurement, fretting and other types of corrosion and cracking(i.e. stress corrosion cracking on stainless materials)

• Internal Rotating Inspection System (IRIS) Used for metallic and non-metallic tubing and some pipe; quantitative measurements. Detects forms of corrosion, erosion, pitting, and fretting.

• Remote Field Testing (RFT) Used for ferromagnetic steel and ferritic stainless steel materials. Detects volumetric indications such as, corrosion, erosion, fretting, and some pitting.

• Near Field Testing (NFT) Primarily for finned ferrous materials such as, Air Fin Cooler; detects inside diameter damage such as, corrosion, erosion and some pitting.

Tubes NDE clean – no re-work! Curran International has proprietary technology for grit blast cleaning of in-service exchangers yielding high integrity NDE. Tube IDs are scoured of tight scale and offers following benefits:

• Predictable, high integrity tube ID surface prep for all NDE methods. • Clean in place expertise; borescope verification of cleanliness . • Vacuum containment of all dust and airborne blast debris.

“The Curran dry blast process has proved to work very well. Maintenance and Operations are also very happy because it does not impact other work in the area.”

Heat Exchanger Mechanical Repair Services

Condenser and exchanger mechanical services: Curran provides expert services for restoring steam condensers, shell and tube exchangers and tube bundles such as high pressure tube plugging, tube end restoration, tube and tube sample removal, hydraulic and mechanical tube end expansion, component cladding, tube sleeving and re-tube services.

Explosive tube plugging: Permanently seal your defective high pressure tubes using our state of the art permanent explosive tube plugs. The plugs use low grade explosive charge to join two metal surfaces together at a high collision velocity. The progressive impact of the metal surfaces at high velocity creates a welded bond which is stronger than a typical fusion type weld. Additionally, unlike fusion tube plug welding, explosive tube plugs do not damage the tube or tubesheet, and is a permanent repair.

Advantages of explosive tube plugs:

• Explosive plugs can be inserted and detonated where tube ends are not accessible by conventional methods.

• They provide a permanent repair and are designed to withstand pressures up to 10,000 PSI.

• Wide dimensional variances are tolerated including compatibility with welding to “out of round” tube or tubesheet holes.

Hydraulic insert/liner installation: Our hydraulic liner installation process is designed to repair defective tubes that may be experiencing tube end erosion/corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, localized pitting, ammonia grooving, improper tube expansion, general tube wall thinning or weakened tube-to-tubesheet joints or within heat exchangers with an excessive number of plugged tubes. This process effectively restores damaged or weakened tubes back to active service. The liners or sleeves can be installed the full length of the parent tube, at the tube inlet or along the length of the defective tube. Hydraulic expansion is performed by introducing water at a high internal pressure within a sleeve, between 2 seals, to expand the sleeve to a point of contact between the sleeve and the parent tube.

Advantages of hydraulic liners/inserts

• Increases the life expectancy or longevity of the parent tubes. • Can be used in straight and U-tubes. • Restores old or defective tubes back to active service. • More cost effective than full or partial retubing. • Protect tube inlets from flow induced erosion. • Reduce circulating water velocity by restoring plugged, leaking tubes to service. • Enhances heat exchanger capacity by restoring defective tubes back to active service. • They can be installed in main steam condenser without having to remove the waterboxes or waterbox covers.
