Welcome to our school newsletter - Issue 7
Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been a busy start to the term and our Twitter feed shows snap
shots of all the opportunities and how alive the school is. I cannot
thank the staff enough for their enthusiasm and commitment to the
children in the school.
Our INSET/Staff training day was jam packed to ensure we continue
to thrive, with an exciting session from JTRS whom we have partnered
with to continue to inspire us with the use of technology in lessons.
During the morning, we were introduced to three apps that Mr Vidal
had previously selected and we learnt how they could be integrated
into our planning and activities. One of the selected apps was
‘Green Screen’ and you can see how Y4 have already used this
during their World War II day - see page 2 for more detail!
After a series of false starts with other companies, this morning I had a
very productive meeting with Mark Smith, the Director of Headstart
Holiday Courses (www.headstartsports.co.uk ), regarding holiday
childcare provision at Stamford Green. We will be sending out more
details shortly but the aim is to have 3 weeks available in the summer
this year and then in 2017 one week at Easter and 3 or 4 weeks in the
summer. I was impressed with their non franchise approach as they
are a small family company that have been operating locally for 25
years. If you are in need of childcare this Easter, they are running at
St Martin’s Infant School from 4.4.16 - 8.4.16.
If you are attending the PTA quiz night this evening have a lovely
time and thank you in advance to Mrs Garner and her team.
Best wishes,
Louise Druce

Year 4 World War II Day
Last Wednesday, Bourne Hall Museum came into school to run a World War II day for Year 4; I
loved it! We did lots of fantastically fun activities, such as being evacuated, learning how to be
in the Home Guard, Military Drills, all about sirens, helmets and much, much more.
My favourite activity was probably learning to be in the Home Guard. We heard lots of interest-
ing stories, including where the Germans would have attacked us!.

Y2 Pirate Day
The children of Year 2 had a great day when they came to school dressed as pirates as part
of their 'Life at sea' theme! Highlights of the day included creating treasure maps, designing
their own pirate flags and researching famous pirates. The Pirates tried to take over the
school by taking down the school flag and hoisting the Jolly Roger and Mrs Druce tried to
hinder them by hiding their flag! The Pirates got their revenge by kidnapping Mrs Druce and
tying her to the flagpole!! After tense negotiations, Mrs Druce was released after the
agreement of a mufti day for Year 2.
"I enjoyed designing treasure maps" Arthur "I liked capturing Mrs Druce and tying her to the
flagpole!" Callum "We enjoyed designing our own pirate flags." Isla and Freya

Y2 Sleepover I went to the Year 2 sleepover and it was great.
We did loads of activities including flapping fish, playdough modelling,
using chopsticks to hold maltesers and doughnut eating. All of the
games were good fun. Our tea was delicious. I had jacket potato and
beans.
We watched a movie and had popcorn. We watched the minion
movie but there were others to choose from like Alladin and Inside Out.
Next, we went to bed and got tucked up. It took us ages to get to sleep.
For breakfast we had toast and cereal. My daddy came to pick me up
and I went home and slept all afternoon!

Parents’ Evening
88% of Parents/Carers have booked an appointment with their child’s class teacher for next
week… If you haven’t had the chance to do so there is still time to book before 6.00pm on Sun-
day… We would love to welcome you into school.
Parent voice sticker
For a few years now, at both Parents’ Evening and Class Open Time, you will have seen the
sticky labels asking what you like about your children’s learning. The children love reading what
you have written and your positive encouragement really helps to build their self- esteem. There-
fore, thank you in advance for completing the stickers at these events.
Can I bring my children?
There is no requirement for your children to attend parents’ evening with you but if you are really
unable to get a babysitter or take turns with other parents then please do not leave your chil-
dren unaccompanied around the school on parents’ evening. It is not fair for members of staff
to have to tidy up areas afterwards nor to have to ‘police’ corridors/areas if children are running
around and playing games. Thank you for your co-operation.
As we celebrate World Book Day, why not put down
your phone and chat or share a book?

Music Evening 2016
On Wednesday 10 February we were all treated to a fantastic evening of musical talent. We heard a
range of instruments being played from the piano to the clarinet and the guitar to the cello as well as
some tuneful additions from the choir and ks1 singing club. There were many highlights that evening but
the one that sticks with me was presenting the music trophy to Nadia in Year 6 whose piano piece
moved the staff emotionally. Wow!

Reading Festival - Beast Quest Event
I was really proud when I won tickets to the Beast Quest event at the Reading Festival that was
held at Bourne Hall on Saturday 6 February and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was great to go
there with Lily Rose, who also won tickets in the competition at school.
My best moment was when I got two books and a
bookmark signed by the author, Adam Blade.
During the event, we played a game of Beast
Quest bingo, where the winners got books as
prizes.
After the main talk was finished, we were able to
get a photo with Nanook, the snow monster (from
Series 1). Earlier in the day, Jacqueline Wilson had
also been at the Reading Festival and my sister,
Eleanor, was lucky enough to get a book plate
she had signed.

What the children say:
I think forgiveness takes a lot
of courage. Mainly because if
you are angry with someone,
you don’t want to be nice
but instead you make the
right choice and forgive
them. You have to remember
that everyone makes
mistakes and it is important to
think about this when showing
forgiveness and accepting
what someone has done.

‘the action or process of forgiving or being
forgiven.’
At Stamford Green we teach the children
that forgiveness is often a hard thing to show,
especially when we have been hurt by
others, but it is essential to do for them to
