Dear Parents/Carers,

I am very pleased to share with you that

Stamford Green Primary School has just

been awarded the Gold Charter Mark

from Surrey County Council. This was

awarded for Outstanding Anti-Bullying

Practice shown in the schools commitment

to empowering pupils, parents and staff in

the area of Anti-Bullying.

The assessors scrutinised documentary evidence of policy,

procedures, reporting and recording data. They also observed

helpful information that advises how pupils can keep themselves

safe as well as doing a learning walk which gave them a good feel

for the positive ethos and appropriate behaviour within school. They

met with our Anti-Bullying Partnership comprising of a governor, a

Ambassadors who are a huge credit to the school, and who

echoed the schools positive ethos, and attitude to developing

caring citizens.

They said, ’It was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to see the

work that your school is undertaking in dealing with issues around

bullying, through your ‘happiness and friendship’ focus and I would

like to congratulate you and your staff for attaining the Surrey

Anti-Bullying Charter Mark GOLD award.’

Packed Lunches

From September children

having a packed lunch are

only allowed to have water in

their lunch boxes. If they wish

to use a cup and have water

from the jugs on the tables

they are more than welcome

to. These changes are as a

result of discussions at Parents’

Forum.

Every Surrey library will once again

be giving children aged 4 to 11

years the opportunity to take part

in the exciting annual summer

reading challenge. This year’s

national theme celebrates 100

years of Roald Dahl.

How do we organise support for the children?

At Stamford Green Primary School, we have high expectations for all children’s progress. Each

term, class teachers assess and evaluate each child, to monitor how they are progressing. The

results are discussed with the Leadership Team and action plans are created to accelerate the

learning of some individuals who may not be reaching their potential. Class teachers make requests for interventions based on the action plans. Mrs Dray (Inclusion

Deputy Headteacher) collates the requests and together with the class teachers, a programme

of intervention is planned and the adult best suited is allocated. The interventions can be deliv-

ered by teaching assistants, pupil support assistants or teachers. Sometimes the interventions are

best given in a pair, small group or on a one to one basis. In addition, interventions can be pro-

vided within the class setting or in a small group space. Each factor is considered to personalise

the learning. There are a range of interventions available to meet the needs of the individual children. Some

children may require additional support in a variety of areas e.g. reading, fine motor skills, social

skills, maths or writing.

At the end of the intervention programme, the progress is again measured. Children are given

the opportunity to demonstrate their accelerated progress independently to avoid reliance on

adult support. Which year group registration team are the Teaching Assistants and

Pupil Support Assistants in next year?

RW – Mrs Caroline Howe

RM – Mrs Julie Edwards

RD – Mrs Emma Brown, Mrs Glenda Edden and Mrs Jane Matthews

RV – Mrs Dawn Baker and Miss Lucy Croucher

Y1 – Mrs Becky Costello, Mrs Sam Bryant and Mrs Viktoria Gyurko

Y2 – Miss Sam Duro

Y2 – Mrs Honey Temlett – School Direct Teacher Training

Y3 – Mr Daniel Siggers

Y4 – Mrs Julie Ackcral and Miss Oana Popovici

Y5 – Mrs Sue Anderson and Mrs Jane Matthews

Y6 – Mr Jack Deane-Armstrong and Mrs Kate Kellett

Please note that where more than one person is listed against a year group it is because they are

either working for part of a week or for part of each day. Some people will be working part of

the day in school and then either at Sunrise or Sunset. This ensures that the children at Sunrise and

Sunset have familiar faces to them and will ensure a successful transition from Sunrise to school or

school to Sunset.

We also welcome Mrs Fiona Wishart to our school office, as the School Finance and Resources

Officer. Do give her a warm welcome and the rest of our new staff, when you see them around.

Our Value for July is:

Responsibility

V A L U E S

We are always impressed with the children at Stamford

Green in how they embody the value of responsibility.

Whether it’s from getting their things prepared in the

morning to helping read with the Reception children, all

children have wonderfully grasped the value of

Responsibility.

Stamford Green awarded bronze

I am delighted to share the exciting news that Stamford Green has been awarded the Eco

Schools Bronze Award. This reflects all our collective hard work to improve the sustainability of

our school, which has been spear-headed by our dedicated Eco Warriors from each class. The

award is a fantastic base upon which to continue to grow our eco agenda, as we aim for our

silver and ultimately the green awards.

Last week in assembly, we celebrated the winners of the competition to design a poster to

promote the Eco Code. The Eco Committee was inundated with entries as children across the

school displayed their creative skills to convey the key messages in the code. The winners in the

three age categories were: Connie Dilieto (1W), Mille Barnes (3L) and Amelie Frost (5PJ). Amelie

was chosen as the overall winner and her poster will be replicated and displayed throughout

the school. Congratulations to all three of you.

What a wonderful day we had with the Official

Opening of the West Wing and the Olympian

Amy Williams. She gave such an inspirational

and age appropriate talk, all who heard her

couldn’t help but be inspired!

The singing of the MSG04 song whilst the

children wore their own made gold medals

prior to the cutting of the ribbon was a very

special moment in school life. Here’s the piece

This year’s Surrey Youth Games took part over the weekend of 18 / 19

June at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford. Epsom and Ewell came 2nd in what

was another fabulous weekend of sporting competition. Prior to the

weekend our ambassadors did a fantastic job of launching the event and

explaining the training sessions etc. We saw lots of children participating

in these sessions, trying new sports and making new friends. It is always

lovely to see children taking up new sports and joining local clubs as a

result of these sessions. At the event itself we had children from our school

competing in sports such as: hockey, cricket, badminton, netball to name

a few. It is always fantastic to see the number of ex-pupils who are still

competing or now involved in the training and officiating at the event itself.

Well done to all our children who were involved in any part of the Surrey Youth Games.

KS2 District Sports This event involves every school in the borough

and takes place over two days. We saw a first

this year with Stamford Green stepping in last

minute to host the field events, after which our

jumpers and throwers had put us in the lead of

our league by 10 points! But would this be

enough going into the track events at the

David Weir Leisure Centre on the following

Monday?

Our runners arrived-on what was a perfect day

weather-wise for an athletics competition. The

Y6 long distance runners set the tone for the

morning with all four of them bringing home

medals, an achievement which inspired the rest

of the team to try their best and really support

one another. For the fourth year running we

managed to win the event and score the most

points overall out of 14 schools. However we are

so proud of the way our children conducted

themselves at these events. Every child repre-

sented the school with pride and their values of

effort, resilience and courage shone through

over both days. Well done all those children who

were involved and thank you for your efforts!

Run to Rio

What a term it has been! We have seen the whole school embrace this initiative and try

to clock up as many laps as possible.

Needless to say we reached Rio pretty quickly, and managed to return to London then

set off to, and reach, Sydney with miles to spare.

We also accepted a challenge from Cuddington Croft to see who could run the most

miles in a set number of weeks and the children really enjoyed working together to

ensure we won that challenge convincingly.

The children are still running regularly, right up to the end of term (not after 10.00am if the

weather is hot) and the improvement in their stamina has been fantastic.

As a result of this we are launching The Golden Run in September. This will be slightly

different to Run to Rio in that the children will be seeing how far they can run in a set time

of 15 minutes.

The goal is to try to run every day, or at least three times a week for our younger children,

and improve stamina, concentration and determination.

The children will be setting their own goals such as: How many laps can I complete?

Can I run for the duration?

We look forward to seeing the benefits of The Golden Run as the next academic year

progresses.

YR & KS1 District Sports

Some of Reception and Key Stage One's superstar athletes participated in District Sports

last Friday. They had practised their skills during PE lessons and were chosen to

participate in either the standing long jump, the bean bag toss, the long distance run or

the sprint races. The event was held at Meadow Primary School and there were children

from twelve local primary schools taking part. Stamford Green did themselves proud and

achieved firsts, seconds and thirds across all events. It was lovely to see

them demonstrating their values by trying their hardest and supporting others.
