Dear Parents/Carers, I am sure that many of you, like me, are wondering where this half term has disappeared to! I think time is going quickly as there is always something exciting happening in school and last night’s drama club production was no exception. The children’s talents were showcased superbly and I know the whole staff team were extremely proud of what the children had achieved. My thanks goes to everyone that was involved with the production. Looking ahead to the next half term, we have all the parent welcome meetings happening, with your child’s next class teacher, so please check the dates for diaries carefully. We also have the Y3, Y4 and Y6 residential trips to look forward to. Before any trip goes ahead, we complete thorough risk assessments, that have to be approved by the Local Authority, who we work closely with and heed their advice about the viability of any trip. In other news, I am happy to report that the Governors approved their admissions policy for the nursery and this, along with an application pack will be published on Wednesday 14.6.17. The consultation response document is attached to this newsletter and I would like to thank the parents that took the time to reply as your feedback was really useful. We will be opening a nursery class in September 2017 and I am delighted to announce that Mrs Frost (Mon - Wed) and Mrs Hughes (Wed - Thur) will be our nursery teachers. Both ladies have worked together for over eight years and come with a wealth of experience and will make the perfect addition to the Stamford Green team. Don’t forget that school is closed on Monday 5.6.17 for staff training and I hope you have a lovely restful and safe half term. Welcome to our school newsletter - Issue 7

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am sure that many of you, like me, are wondering where this half

term has disappeared to! I think time is going quickly as there is

always something exciting happening in school and last night’s

drama club production was no exception. The children’s talents

were showcased superbly and I know the whole staff team were

extremely proud of what the children had achieved. My thanks goes

to everyone that was involved with the production.

Looking ahead to the next half term, we have all the parent

welcome meetings happening, with your child’s next class teacher,

so please check the dates for diaries carefully. We also have the Y3,

Y4 and Y6 residential trips to look forward to. Before any trip goes

ahead, we complete thorough risk assessments, that have to be

approved by the Local Authority, who we work closely with and

heed their advice about the viability of any trip.

In other news, I am happy to report that the Governors approved

their admissions policy for the nursery and this, along with an

application pack will be published on Wednesday 14.6.17. The

consultation response document is attached to this newsletter and I

would like to thank the parents that took the time to reply as your

feedback was really useful. We will be opening a nursery class in

September 2017 and I am delighted to announce that Mrs Frost (Mon

- Wed) and Mrs Hughes (Wed - Thur) will be our nursery teachers.

HPVBs In Year 2 to Year 6, the children earn House Point Values Buttons (HPVB) for effort and

completion of their homework. Teachers can award up to 2 blue buttons per child a week, with

an extra golden button being awarded to up to 2 children a week for outstanding homework

(the ‘Homework Hero’). Teachers will initial the buttons awarded so the children know how

many they have been given.

Each half term, the children are given a new HPVB ticket to coincide with the new homework

passport that is also given out. The tickets should all be kept attached to the treasury tag in the

inside back cover of the homework book for safe keeping.

As we want to foster independence as one of our values, it is the children’s responsibility to keep

their tickets safe as replacements will not be given.

When the children decide they wish to ‘spend’ some HPVB, they should take their tickets to Mrs

Saunt in the office, who will help them organise their reward and will use a hole punch to stamp

out a hole in the redeemed buttons. See below for some of the things that can be ‘bought’ with

the HPVBs.

We are reminding children about what they can spend their HPVBs on, so they can do so

before the end of term. The children can continue to save up their HPVBs in to the new

academic year, but again, it’s the child’s responsibility to keep their tickets in a safe place until

they wish to spend them.

Happy spending!

The Breck Foundation

The Breck Foundation is raising the awareness of playing safe whilst using the internet. Breck

Bednar was a 14 year old boy, from Caterham, Surrey who loved technology and online

gaming. He was groomed via the internet and murdered on February 17th 2014 by someone he

met online. This foundation has been set up in his memory to help other young people enjoy

playing online but crucially to be aware of some simple rules to stay safe. To always remember

that the friends that are made online are not like your real friends.

Lorin LaFave, Breck’s mother will be coming to talk to parents about how to ensure your children

are kept safe online.

To book on this important event please click on the link below and go to The Breck Foundation –

FOR PARENTS – Epsom Primary School. The Epsom and Ewell Partnership of Schools have funded

this event so it is FREE for parents to attend:

The address of Epsom Primary School is Pound Lane, Epsom, Surrey, KT19 8SD. There is no

parking onsite at the school so please park in the surrounding roads.

Bookings will be taken on a first come, first served basis. The event will take place on Tuesday 19

September 2017 starting at 9.15am - 10.15am at Epsom Primary School and Nursery in the

school hall.

Update on our Spanish eTwinning Project

A while ago I informed you about the Etwinning site that will enable you to see our collaborative

work with our pen pals in Petrer, Spain. Much of this work is done and shared in class, but Spanish

Link Club, (Javier has a similar club for English), creates many videos and presentations that we

also share with them. Our aim is to learn about each other’s lives and to enrich our language

learning opportunities by being in regular contact with ‘real’ Spanish people.

I now have the login details to share with you so you can see what Stamford Green School is

sharing with Colegio Santo Domingo Savio.

The projects we have uploaded so far are listed for you to look at. Keep looking regularly as

there will always be new things to look at.

How do you show tolerance

towards others?

When have you needed to

show tolerance?

Our Value for May is:

Tolerance

Craze of the week

This week it’s been space hoppers and after half term will be scooter boards.

V A L U E S

Tolerance is the ‘willingness to

accept behaviour and beliefs

that are different from your own,

although you might not agree

with or approve of them.’

In Year 3 we have been

discussing how we show

tolerance at home. Some

children gave examples of

showing tolerance towards

their siblings whilst others

compared showing tolerance

towards their pets and older

relatives.

Way way back, many centuries ago, not long after the Bible began was a story about

Joseph who was betrayed by his brothers. Our twins, Joe and Seph, were accompanied by

a cast of over 60 children in various roles. The children looked dazzling in their costumes and

put on a spectacular performance and the show had everything from multi-coloured coats,

to wigs, horses and even ‘The King’ himself made an appearance!

Well done to all the children involved. We are so proud of all the values you show on a daily

basis and for having the courage to perform in front of a packed hall.

Thanks also to the PTA who provided refreshments to the audience during the interval.

The Drama Team

“It was such a great evening! It was like being at a West End show!” Mrs Dray

“Just wanted to say the production of "Joseph" was amazing tonight. A musical is really hard

to pull off but the kids cracked it! Over the years I have seen so many lovely productions

from Stamford Green but this has been my favourite.

The children are so lucky to have such amazing staff, who are able show them a real joy of

the Arts. You could tell every single child in the performance tonight has really enjoyed their

journey and every child shone.” A Year 6 Parent

Epsom Derby Art Project

Recently the school were approached to support a

project to decorate a horse which will be on display

during the Investec Epsom Derby. The school could

win £1,000 in vouchers if we are successful. Miss

Burgess and her team of helpers set about creating

what is now known as ‘Stamford Beauty’ which will

be on display up on Epsom Downs. Derby goers are

invited to vote for their favourite horse in the

dedicated area on The Hill. Sadly, his fastest time did

not qualify him to compete in the races this year

though! All the children coloured horses which have

been used to decorate Stamford Beauty. We think

he looks amazing and so do the organisers. Well

done to all those involved. We hope Stamford Beauty

wins!

I’ve always wondered…

School Toilet Access

If you or your children need to use the toilets at school before

or after the end of the school day, please make sure you

come in to school via the office. Pre-school children or adults

may use the staff toilets in an emergency but we would

encourage you to only use this as a last resort as the toilets can

get very busy with staff at these times of day! Stamford Green

pupils are not allowed in the staff toilets so must be let through

to use the children’s toilets, or wait on the gold sofas next to

the office if they are waiting for other family members.

All adults entering the school building must sign in and out at

the office even if only to use the toilets. This is a safeguarding

requirement and there cannot be any exceptions.

Thank you for your cooperation.
