JCB is to make a high-flow auxiliary hydraulic circuit available for the 3CX Compact backhoe loader - delivering up to 120 litres/min of flow to power a range of loader-mounted attachments.

In addition JCB will launch additional features to enhance the machine including:• Second step options for easy cab access• Multi-function front loader control• Powerslide option allows repositioning without ground damage• Skid steer attachment hitch increases work tool availability• Additional in cab storage• Dipper mounted hydraulic pipework

Attachment Driver

The 3CX Compact will be available with a high-flow front-end auxiliary hydraulic circuit capable of delivering up to120 litres/min at an operating pressure of 200 bar. This, in combination with the option of a skid steer loader mounting hitch, will allow contractors to operate a wider range of high-flow attachments, such as patch planers and trenchers, on the front of the 3CX Compact, further boosting the versatility of this highly capable machine.

GOLD STAR FOR JCB AS MACHINES TAKE A BOW IN CULT FILMA fleet of more than 20 JCB machines is playing a starring role in a cult film following the biggest product placement project in the company’s history.

Skid steers loaders, Loadall telescopic handlers and JS excavators were supplied to 20th Century Fox for the making of the new Alien Covenant film which hit UK cinema screens on Friday.

They star alongside Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston wrapped in stunning gold – the idea of British film director and producer Ridley Scott designed to give them a futuristic look.

JCB Worldwide Marketing Director Michael Plummer said: “This is the biggest product placement exercise in JCB’s history and involved more than £1 million worth of machines. Ridley Scott’s idea to wrap the machines in gold delivered a stunning result and is certainly an eye-catching addition to a film which will be seen by millions of people around the world.”

The machines - which appear in the film’s finale - were supplied with the help of JCB dealer Construction Equipment Australia to the movie set in Sydney, Australia. Six JCB generators were also provided for the film makers to use.

The equipment is used in the so-called ‘terraforming bay’, the area which alters the environment to make it capable of supporting terrestrial life. Alien Covenant is set almost 100 years in the future and is the sixth Alien franchise film to be made.

TWO NEW QUICK HITCHES LAUNCHED FOR MID-WEIGHT EXCAVATORSJCB Attachments is introducing two improved hydraulic hitches for JCB’s mid-weight JS excavators. The hitches, which meet the ISO 13031 standard, have been designed to suit machines in the 13-14 tonne sector and the 20-22 tonne market.

Depending on operation, a hydraulic hitch can save up to 25% of total machine operating time compared to direct mounting or a mechanical hitch.The new hydraulic hitches offer:

• Proven positive locking design with front and rear lock• Compact design for improved machine breakout force• No greasing requirements for low maintenance and ease of use• The ability to reverse buckets to excavate under walls and pipes• A hose guide on the tipping link for extra protection Maximum SecurityThe two new hitches, which have been designed for use with both crawler and wheeled JS excavators, have a positive locking system in which the front safety lock is forced into its default position by a spring, retaining and locking the attachment pin. The hitches use the rear lock as a secondary safety feature, backed up by two powerful springs. This retains the attachment’s rear pin in the event of a cylinder failure.

Variable pin centre designs make the hitches suitable for use with a wide range of attachments. They have an open frame design to prevent material build-up and there are no grease points, cutting regular maintenance and boosting productivity. Both front and rear pin hooks are painted, to make them visible to the operator in the cab. There is also a heavy-duty lifting eye on the end of the hitch that is CE tested and certified.

JCB Attachments has improved the hose routing to the hitch and there is now a guide on the hitch’s tipping link to prevent snagging and damage to hoses.To operate the hitch the machine driver must press and hold the hitch switch in the cab for one second until a buzzer sounds and the hitch light on the boom is activated. An unlocked image also appears on the machine’s main console. The buzzer will continue to sound and the lights flash to indicate that the hitch is unlocked. Once the operator has changed the bucket or attachment, they simply crowd the bucket service to position the attachment in a safe position and fully close the hitch jaws around the attachment pins. A prompt on the machine display ensures that the operator has checked the attachment security, with a press of the dial required to confirm this.

The smaller of the two new hitches is designed for use with the JS130, JS131, JZ140, JS145 and the JS145W. The larger model is for use with the JS200, JS210 and JS220 models. Both hitches are available as line fit items, or can be ordered through a JCB dealer as an aftermarket offering.
