Hand-Wired Guitar Amplification
Hand-wired in England by specialists with
years of experience in defence standard
work, Hayden amplifiers combine elegant
design with the finest components and
meticulous attention to detail to create guitar
amplification of exquisite tone and quality.
Uncompromising specifications include non-ferrous
stainless steel chassis construction, hand-machined solid
gold turret tags, carefully matched tube sets, ceramic tube
bases and the highest quality defence-standard capacitors.
Over-spec'd transformers are hand-built in England using
the finest metal laminates, ensuring masses of headroom
with stunning articulation when driven hard – either clean
or overdriven.
Simple topology ensures the shortest signal path from
input to output, with tone circuit components linked
directly to the control pots on the front panel. Right down
to the hand-crafted, marine-quality birch ply cabinets,
engraved front panels and phenolic knobs, Hayden
amplifiers ooze quality all the way.

On the tour bus or in
the hotel room,
guitarists who simply
cannot live without the
unique tone of a point to point,
hand-wired tube amp get simple volume and tone controls, and
2 watts of power delivered by a Celestion Tube 10 loudspeaker.
The amplifier design is simple and elegant, with a single ECC83
tube in the preamp stage and a 6V6 in the output stage. And
hardly the heaviest guitar amp in the known universe, the Petite
Blonde can be made even lighter in weight by specifying an
Alnico speaker.
The spring reverb is footswitchable while a built-in power
soak, which operates via the DI output with the speaker
disconnected, makes the Essex Blonde 8 perfect for recording.
Effects send and return sockets are located on the front panel,
along with straightforward volume, treble, middle, bass and
reverb controls, plus an attack control which drops the gain and
decreases the dynamic range to make the amplifier cleaner and
more precise. And in a perfect example of Hayden’s exhaustive
attention to detail, controls are labelled on an angled panel,
which can be viewed clearly from the front or above.
Clean tones are pure and sweet with a smooth and articulate
overdrive readily on tap as the volume is increased. Owners can
customise the amplifier further by experimenting with
alternative output tubes including 6L6 and EL34, and with
different loudspeakers.

Petite BlondeInspired by the early Hawaiian guitar amplifiers of the 1940s,
the Petite Blonde is basic, bijou and beautiful.
Essex Blonde 8Simple and gorgeous – it has to be the Essex Blonde 8. An all-tube preamp
drives a mono 6V6 tube output section, with power delivered via a classic,
12 inch Celestion Vintage 30 loudspeaker.
ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes and a duet of 6V6 output tubes
are standard-issue in the Essex Blonde 15, but guitarists are
free to try EL34s for a classic, 70s rock sound or 6L6s for a
huge, clean tone with more brittle overdrive. And why not
perform your own ‘custom shop’ modification using the bypass
switch on the rear panel to optimise the amplifier for clean or
overdrive sounds.
Front panel controls include gain, master, treble, middle, bass
and reverb, with effects send and return sockets to the right of
the power lamp. Around the back, there are extension speaker
and balanced DI outputs, and a footswitch socket for the
spring reverb.
And by spec'ing the amplifier with 6L6s, the output of this
restrained performer jumps dramatically to more than 40 watts.
Triode/Pentode switching, 4/8/16 Ohm impedance switching,
fuse failure indicator lamps and an internal mains voltage
selector are evidence of an amplifier that leaves no stone
unturned in the pursuit of excellence. With a range of clean and
overdrive sounds readily available, the Cotton Club Blues keeps
things simple on the front panel with high and low gain inputs,
drive, master volume, reverb level, presence, treble, middle and
bass controls, plus a filter control providing continuously-
variable British/US voicing. Reverb, voice in/out and master
volume are all footswitchable, and purists may choose to defeat
the master volume control to realise even greater signal path
integrity.
Hand-Wired Guitar Amplification
Essex Blonde 15More power and greater versatility from the largest of the Essex Blondes.
Triode/Pentode switching allows operation in either 7 or 15-Watt modes, while
a 6-position pick-up control on the front panel enables matching with a wide
variety of guitars.
Cotton Club BluesFuelled by the spirit of 1920s Harlem, the silicone-rectified Cotton Club Blues
conjures up 30 Watts of sublime tone from an ECC83 (12AX7) equipped
preamp with a 6V6GT to drive the reverb, quad 6V6 equipped output section,
and a single Celestion Vintage 30 12 inch loudspeaker.
Speakeasy 8-28With a standard output tube configuration of four 6V6s, the
Speakeasy 8-28 features a spring reverb, variable British/US
voicing and a master volume defeat, with facilities for
footswitching reverb, voice in/out and master volume.
Triode/Pentode switching and the facility to experiment with
tube configurations further enhance the Speakeasy’s
extraordinary range of clean and creamy, high-gain sounds.
Try 6L6s or EL34s in the output stage if you want more power or
change the ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes for ECC81s to reduce
the gain if you’re using high output pick-ups.
Facilities include gain, master volume, reverb, treble, middle,
bass and presence controls, effects loop and impedance
switching. Standard loudspeakers are a pair of Celestion 12
inch Vintage 30s, but again, with the Speakeasy, the choice of
final configuration is yours.
Variable Class A/Class AB performance makes the Speakeasy 8-28 a very special
guitar amplifier indeed. Ranging from 8 to 28 Watts, it enables the player to set
up the amplifier precisely for optimum sweetness of tone, either in the recording
studio or on stage.
Each output tube is individually fused with the
bias adjustable by the user via rotary controls on
the back panel in conjunction with the VU meter
set to ‘audio’. Performance flexibility is provided
by footswitching between two gain settings, with
everything from gloriously glassy clean sounds
through to powerful, restrained and clearly
articulated overdrive tones instantly available.
Front panel controls encompass high and low gain inputs, bright
and normal gain mix, bass, middle, treble and overdrive
controls, and dual masters. Back panel facilities include effects
send and return sockets, 4/8/16 Ohm impedance switching,
speaker outputs and a mains voltage selector.
Accompanying the Buxom Blonde head is a dedicated 4 x 12"
cabinet loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.

Buxom BlondeLoud, brassy and up-front, the Buxom Blonde is a 100-watt tube head with a big
personality. Transformer guru John Page was persuaded out of retirement to
create a very special transformer for this beauty, exhibiting excellent high
frequency performance, rich harmonic content and bountiful low-end response.
Six enormous smoothing capacitors ensure ripple free power delivery and a
classic configuration of four 12AX7 preamp tubes with four Pentode/Triode
switchable EL34s in the output stage delivers an unashamedly British sound.
