• Pele began erupting in 1983 on Kilauea's east coast of the island. Mount Pele sent out enough lava to build a duel carriage way 50 times around the world.

• So many people thought that the lava would never reach them but they were wrong. luckily no one died or was injured but lots of houses, property and good memories were lost as residence watched there houses go up in flames.

• Volcanoes are made when an island floats over a fixed hotspot. A hotspot is a gap in the dense rock that allows magma to explode through the surface and cause an eruption.

• The method for testing lava is simple. The vulcanolagists look for a skylight in the lava then they throw the end of a hammer down the skylight. Once the hammer is in the lava they pull it up really quickly and pore lots of water onto it so they can preserve it and do lots of tests on it.
