Date published: 5 June 2015
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is reviewingthe National Instrument Test Procedures (NITPs), andwould like your feedback on current procedures and findout how your business may be affected by the proposedchanges.
What are the NITPs?
When the accuracy of your trade measurement instruments is checked by a technician licensed byNMI (known as a servicing licensee), they are required to follow the process as set out in the NITPs.
The accuracy of trade measurement instruments is checked across many industry sectors.
Trade measurement instruments can include:
retail scales
grain protein measuring instruments
petrol dispensers. Why are the NITPs being reviewed?
The NITPs are being reviewed to try and reduce regulation burden and costs. NMI wants to find outif greater flexibility is possible for testing the accuracy of a trade measuring instrument.
NMI would like your input on questions such as:
What are the potential risks in removing some mandatory requirements?
How much does it cost your business to have your measuring instruments checked?
What indirect costs do you incur when a servicing licensee follows the NITPs? This could includeshutdown time, delay costs, etc.
Read the consultation paper for more information and see the questions NMI would like yourthoughts on!
