From the Nurses Office: Preventative Measures for Avoiding Ticks

While it is a good idea to take preventive measures against ticks year-round, be

extra vigilant in warmer months (April-September) when ticks are most active.

-Avoid Di rec t Contac t wi th Ticks

-Avoid wooded and bushy areas with high grass and leaf litter.

-Walk in the center of trails.

-Ask your doctor about the safe use of tick repellants.

-F ind and Remove Ticks

-Shower as soon as possible after coming indoors preferably within two

hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks that are crawling on you.

-Conduct a full-body check for ticks, especially the hair.

-Examine gear and pets. Ticks can ride into the home on cloth- ing and pets,

then attach to a person later, so carefully examine pets, coats, and packs.

Tumble clothes in a dryer on high heat for an hour to kill remaining ticks.

PTO—Spring Flower Sale Thursday, May 11, 2017

Hatton PTO will be holding a Spring Flow-er Sale with items priced from $.25 for seed packets and up to $15.00 for hanging flower baskets. Classrooms will have an opportunity to shop throughout the day. A variety of spring plants will also be available for purchase.

STUDENT DRESS REGULATIONS With warmer weather hopefully “just around the corner” we will call your attention to Board of Education Policy R-5132 which deals with student dress regulations and applies to all students in grades K-12. Each student in the Southington Public Schools has the responsi-bility of dressing in appropriate attire to the best of his/her ability in accordance with neatness, modesty, health and safety. All students should be well groomed and through their dress demonstrate re-spect for themselves, their fellow students and pride in their school. Items such as halter tops, swimwear, tube tops, bare midriffs, or backs, tank tops, off the shoulder garments and “mini” skirts are not allowed, also clothing meant to be worn as an undergarment is not allowed. Primary age children (K-3) may wear commonly accepted shorts. Students in grades 4-12 may wear Bermuda style shorts and jams. Such shorts are knee length in design or may fall just above the knee. A business like and courteous attitude on the part of each student is necessary to ensure success in school work. Whenever dress interferes with this the student will be counseled and more appropri-ate apparel will be required. Students who wear flip flops/sandals will not be allowed to use playscape equipment due to safety concerns.
