From The

Heart Our theme this year is “Go and make disciples”, al-

so known as the great commission. I have always liked it that the emphasis of our church is on each one of us be-ing disciples. That means that each one of us grows as we follow Jesus in our own best way through prayer, worship, study, fellowship, service, giving, sharing our faith, showing compassion, and spiritual honesty. How we each grow in these areas may be a little different. That’s to be expected. But what matters most is that we are each growing in these areas. To me, part of the beau-ty of this church is that it allows each of us the room and the responsibility to pursue our spiritual growth to the best of our understanding without being judgmental to-wards each other.

Sometimes I think the main problem we face is the problem of priorities. There are so many things pulling at our time and attention it’s easy for us to get distracted along the way. Another problem can be the way we think about being a disciple of Jesus. We can think of it as an-other thing that we have to “get done” in life. But being a disciple of Jesus isn’t something to add to our “to do” list. Being a disciple of Jesus is the way to live life. It’s the way to experience fullness of life. Jesus is the gate, the entrance, the way.

As we go through 2018 let’s all keep in the front of our minds what it means to be a disciple and what it means to help others discover being disciples as well. Onward and Upward! Your Pastor, Dr. D

Adventure Report!

Forward!

I’ve been spending some time in the first chapter of Joshua. The book opens with torch being passed from Moses to Joshua. God’s first command to Joshua after Moses’ death is to arise now and go. God sends Joshua forward while promising to be with him every step of the way. He tells him three times in that first passage to be strong and courageous because He knew what lay before Joshua was scary but the Promised Land on the other side of those scary situations was worth it.

I feel a bit of kinship with Joshua in this respect. As I look to what this year can be for our children and teens, I feel so motivated to run forward and explore all our potential. I know that a new year means largely new territory and that can be scary but what a relief to ven-ture into that new territory with a God who promises to go with us and take care of us. In fact, it makes me feel brave.

Will you go forward with us? Will you prayerfully consider joining with us by teaching a children’s church service or a Wednesday night gathering? Will you be brave and offer a children’s moment? There’s so much room for us all to be a part of what God is doing here at First Christian Church. Let’s journey forward together.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9

If you have and any questions on how you can be involved please send me an email: [email protected]. I’d love to chat with you.

In Him,

Kahla
