Not long ago I read a devotional written by Sammy Tippett and thought you might profit from what he had to say. Several years ago an older lady who had been a missionary for many years was visiting a pastor in a city in the United States that had many street gangs. It was a dangerous place to live and minister. Consequently, the pastor was taking a karate course to learn how to defend himself. When the little missionary lady discovered what the pastor was doing, she was shocked. “Why are you taking karate lessons?” she quickly asked. The pastor sheepishly responded, “You must understand that it’s very dangerous here. I need to be able to protect myself.” “Then you don't understand your position in Christ.” “What do you mean?” the pastor asked. The little missionary then began to explain a great theological and practical truth about victory in Christ. She began drawing circles. After the first circle she said, “This circle represents your life.” She then drew a bigger circle around the first one. “The bigger circle represents Christ. The Bible says that you are in Christ. Do you understand?” she questioned. After a positive response, the little lady then drew an even bigger circle around the first two circles. “That circle” she said, “represents the Father. You are in Christ and Christ is in the Father.” Then she drew a small circle inside the first circle. “That circle represents the Holy Spirit who lives inside you. You are in Christ. Christ is in the Father. And the Holy Spirit lives in you.” After the pastor agreed, the little missionary lady continued, “Before the devil can do anything to harm you, he has to first go through the Father and get permission from Him. If the Father gives him permission to attack you, he then must go through the Son. If the Son gives him permission to attack you, then you have the blessed Holy Spirit living within you. And the Bible says that ‘greater is He who lives in you than he who lives in the world.’ Then why are you so afraid? The safest place in the world to be is in Christ.” That little lady understood a great truth about victorious Christian living. Our victory is completely related to our position in Christ. Therefore, everyday we need to awaken and clothe ourselves with Christ. We need to take time to recognize that we are in Christ. By faith, we must claim Christ's protection over us. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to take complete control of our lives. As He fills us, we will experience victory over the attacks that Satan has against us. I’ve walked into a revolution, the aftermath of an attempted genocide, been in airports that terrorists were threatening to blow up, had knives put to my throat, and been shot at as I’ve attempted to bring the message of God’s love around the world. But I’ve learned that the safest place in the world is “in Christ.” I need to simply take time daily to place myself in Christ and allow Christ to fill me. There’s no safer place in the world than “abiding in Christ.” Check out these Scripture references. Romans 8:1, John 14:11, 1 Corinthians 6:19, 1 John 4:4, Romans 8:38-39, and Galatians 3:28. Bro. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind! A new call to ministry, so many great people to meet and get to know, a youth group that has overwhelmed us with love from the very beginning and the blessing of a new rental home to move into. Add to this some struggles as are common to man and you get the perfect recipe for exhaustion. But you know, my family is doing ok. Very well, in fact. So what kept us from getting overwhelmed? Our God of course. But the longer answer is our God through those He sent to help us. You here at FBC have overwhelmed us with love and other types of blessings. In fact, as I write this I am expecting a meal brought to us by some folks who just decided to love us this week. WOW! God is so good and my family thanks Him with all our hearts for His people and their love. One more thing. There is someone who has also been a light, provider, encourager and teacher to us all our lives. Yes, you know who I am talking about; MOM. To all of you who have given yourselves for your families, have sacrificed for your children and have given love even when we did not deserve it; to you, mom, we send all our love. Thank you for your leading. Thank you for your example. Thank you for allowing God to use you to bless me.

Bro. Mike

Wow! What a great night of worship and fellowship this past Sunday night over at Greater Destiny! I want to say a big thank you to all of the FBC Choir members who participated in leading worship—you all did incredible jobs. The choir knocked it out of the park on the anthem—”Thou Oh Lord.” Mrs. Allyson, their worship leader asked me what we were singing next time; I’m not sure, but I’m looking forward to it. Many of you need to join us on these special occasions and on a regular basis. Come join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30. Hope to see you.

This past week I had the privilege of taking First Academy Kindergarten thru Third grade music students to sing at the National Day of Prayer at the Courthouse. They sang two songs and did a super job. It is a great privilege to be able to teach these students not only to sing but also to read and write music.
