In this Psalm, the author writes that all the nations are to praise the Lord. We should praise God because His lovingkindness, His mercy, is great toward us and those all across the globe. John 3:16 (NASB95) says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” In Revelation 5:9 (NASB95) we see those in Heaven singing about Christ and saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.” Truly our Lord is worthy of worship and worthy of praise. He has made His salvation available to people throughout the world. Mercy prepares the way for grace. When we put our faith in what Jesus did at the Cross by dying in our place, we receive mercy. Mercy is simply not getting the punishment we deserve. We deserve Hell, but Jesus suffered in our place when He died at Calvary. He took our punishment. We deserve Hell, but Jesus pardons us from our sin. Once that pardon is extended, we can then receive His grace. Grace is being given something good that we do not deserve. As the Bible says that we deserve Hell, but because of God’s wonderful grace we are given Heaven instead. Surely we should praise God for His mercy which has opened the door for His amazing grace. Notice with me something else about Psalm 117. The Bible is filled with wonderful promises for the believer. I read on www.Bibleinfo.com that, “According to one person’s count, there are 3573 promises in the Bible.” 1 That’s a lot of promises. And the good news is that every promise God has made will be kept. He never lies or breaks a promise. As Psalm 117 says, “the truth of the LORD is everlasting.” And therein lies another reason for us to praise the Lord. As John Piper observed, “I wonder how many believers today realize that faith is not merely believing that Christ died for our sins. Faith is also being confident that His way is better than sin. His will is more wise. His help is more sure. His promises more precious. And His reward more satisfying. Faith begins with a backward look at the cross, but it lives with a forward look at the promises.” Bro. EDUCATION MINISTRY Four essential questions to ask when studying

your Bible.

3. Are there any universal truths or principles in the text?

This is a very simple and straight forward question. What is meant by universal is “something that can apply to any person no matter where or when they live. For example, the moral law in the 10 commandments that say “do not steal” would equally apply to all people everywhere and at any time. This process is simple and one can find a variety of truths and principles in the short text we have today. Here are a few 1) Satan seeks to destroy people with his wiles, 2) God has provided a way for Christians to be protected from Satan’s plans, 3)The battle that is to be fought is not one that can always be seen with the eye.

Missions Report Brantley County & Ocean City, Maryland

Wed. Night Youth will meet on July 16, 23 and 30. The month of August we will be meeting with adults for revival activities. Normal Youth activities will resume September 3. Be in prayer for area youth revival in late September. Sunday night Youth Discipleship: Understanding Other Denominations and Non-Christian Religions begins Oct. 5th @ 4:45 p.m. I have recently resumed work on a Christian fiction novel that has been in my mind now for a couple of years. The basic story is about a family who has been given rule over a land by God with a promise that it would prosper. However, as part of the deal, each generation will have to go through a great trial. Filled with sword play, romance, good and evil, I think the end result will be quite readable (I hope some publisher will think so anyways). Though fiction in its details, the idea that prosperity from God comes with trial and sacrifice is reality. Christ Himself invited all who followed Him to take up their cross daily. I do not believe that this meant simply that sometimes others won’t like us, but that to accomplish what God has for us here we must act in such a way that seems contrary to our human understanding. The cross hurts. It leads to death. It is not just an uncomfortable trial but a dedication to the gospel of Christ whatever the cost. What is our cross today? Some believe it to be simply going to church each week, but I’m not sure that Bro. Shep’s sermons are that bad (just a little joke there). Maybe it is taking our vacation time to go on a mission trip or sponsoring a child in another country. Ya know, these things are great but I don’t believe these are the things Christ is talking about either. What might it mean to the world if we truly sacrificed our time, money or talents till it hurt? Our teacher at Student Life Camp (David Platt) speaks of this in detail in his book “Radical.” He suggests things like living in smaller homes, driving less expensive vehicles, selling excess possessions and giving all you can to those around the world who are starving for physical and spiritual food. You can also sacrifice your time to pray or serve those in your community who need to hear that someone cares and more importantly that God cares. We must be aware that as Christians the prosperity that we desire is spiritual fruit. With this in mind may we move forward for the cause of Christ. God bless you my friends.

Can’t you see 50 people in the choir loft proclaiming the glory of the Lord each Sunday? Starting in August the Celebration (Adult) Choir will have a second choir rehearsal. No, you don’t have to come to both but, you can if you want to. The second choir rehearsal will be on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 pm in the choir room. This second choir rehearsal is to provide those who are involved in other activities on Wednesday nights the opportunity to still sing in the Adult Choir. The music will be the same. The goal is to have a full choir, made up of people from both services, sing at the end of the early service and towards the beginning of the second service. Won’t you come be one of the fifty? The second choir rehearsal will begin Sunday, August 10, at 4:00 PM in the choir room. In October of 2015 the Sons of Jubal will be traveling to Israel to sing and tour. This trip is open to church members as well. If you would like to travel with the Sons of Jubal in Israel and would like more information see BJ for a brochure. The Celebration (Adult) Choir will rehearse again on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:30 PM in the choir loft. Make plans now to be there. BJ

—————————————————— We have advertised for a while for

teachers for the Kindergarten, 2yr old and 1 yr old classes...

18 years ago in a very small church, I was 25 years old and we needed a 2 yr old teacher. I did not think that I was called or could even do preschool Sunday School. BUT I took the position. I prayed that God would show me what to do. I had NO material, NO experience and didn’t really know IF 2 yr olds could do Sunday School. God showed me a ‘Count Your Blessings’ book. We started with that every Sunday when I taught 2 yr olds. We read it, sang the song and prayed thanking God for our blessings. From there we begin to teach straight from the Bible on a 2 yr old level. This is the foundation that began a hunger for God’s Word in MY 2 yr old at the time. I have made A LOT of mistakes as a parent over the years, but teaching preschool Sunday School in my daughter’s 2 yr old class was NOT one of them. God used that time to change my outlook on what children can absorb from the Bible. If you want to see the hand of God before you, take a Sunday School Class and ask God to guide you through His plan for that class. Last night Bro. John Clough did the devotional for prayer service. We sang ‘Count Your Blessings’ and talked about Worship. As I look at my blessings, I see God started preparing me 18 years ago for a plan that I could not even see. I also see that He was starting a life-long learning process for those 2 year olds. Where are you serving, and how can God use that as a blessing in your life?
