It’s always something. If you are in a hurry, a tire is sure to go flat. If you are struggling financially, the washing machine stops working. If you fail to back up your computer files, your hard drive melts down. Life is filled with problems, challenges, and disappointments. But our attitude can make a big difference in how we cope with those issues. How many times have you asked someone how he or she is doing only to hear the response, “Okay, under the circumstances”? So what does the word, “circumstances” mean? “Circumstances” refers to the factors, conditions, or environment that characterize the situation in which we find ourselves. Many times those circumstances can be very difficult. Jesus knew this would be the case, but He said, “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” John 16:33 (NASB95). In Romans 8:37-39 (NASB95) the Apostle Paul writes, “But in all these things [i.e. all these circumstances] we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Listen, our ultimate victory in life is assured because we walk with Christ. Jesus lives in “the winner’s circle” because He won the ultimate victory at Calvary. For that very reason, if we choose to follow Him and serve Him, we will live in the winner’s circle as well. Because of Christ we don’t have to live under the circumstances;” we can choose to live “above the circumstances.” The key is our attitude. The truth is that God will give us all that we need in order to fulfill His perfect will for our lives. That doesn’t shield us from hardships and difficulties, but it does mean that we will be victorious in the long term. Chuck Swindoll writes, “Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitude toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.” My prayer for each of us is that we will choose to adopt a winning attitude. As we do we will glorify the Lord, grow in His grace, and go out in His power to a world that is desperate for hope and a new beginning. Wednesday Nights: Youth Wednesday night worship will be held in the warehouse this Wednesday at 6:30. Be sure to invite all to come back! Sunday Night Discipleship: Sundays @ 4:45pm will begin our Youth discipleship class. The topics studied will include information on various denominations, religions and cults that we as Christians may come across. In studying these we will also be strengthening our understandings of Christian theology and Baptist doctrine. Wednesday morning devos: Students in 6

th-12

th grade

are invited to our devotions every Wednesday morning @ 7:10am. The month of October we will be at First United Methodist Church and as always breakfast is provided. We will be finished by 7:40 and rides will be provided to all schools. Youth Revival: Be in prayer for our youth revival, “UNITE,” being held in the FMC on October 24 & 25. There will be music by Drawing From Heaven and Pastor/Youth Speaker Shawn McBride will be presenting the Word. This event will be in cooperation with several other churches in our area and we hope to fill the FMC with students who hunger for God’s word! For info on Shawn McBride visit: (http://www.truthforyouthamerica.org/). For info on Drawing From Heaven go to www.facebook.com/DrawingFromHeaven. 1 John 2:1 (NKJV) My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Have you ever read this section of scripture? Take some time to read it beginning in chapter one and then to the end of chapter two. By reading only this one verse you might get the mistaken idea that sin is a minor thing; that John simply says, “don’t sin, but if you do Jesus will forgive you so don’t worry about it.” But this is the farthest from the truth. In fact, John makes the case quite strongly that this forgiveness is for those who are His and the way you know that you are His is that you follow His commands and not sin. Yes…a hundred times yes; if we sin (or when we sin) our Father will forgive us of our sins when we ask Him, and we can again come into His presence and rest in His peace. But which of us want to continually challenge His grace? If we are His, should we not strive to do good? Should we not do all in our power to avoid temptation and avoid sin? I don’t know if I will ever understand “Christians” who don’t, or choose not to, understand the expectation of God. It seems that they search daily for the blessings that they can receive and for the good that their religion and God can bring to them. To my understanding of Scripture this is in complete opposition to the gospel of Christ and the teachings of the Bible. True Christians are not to dwell upon the benefits of their faith, but focus on what they can give for others. Yes, we rejoice in the time to come when all sorrow will cease and our Father welcomes us home with honor. But while on earth our mission is to love and give all we have and all we are to those who He gave Himself to and for. Our faith is not one of self-gratification. Our faith is one of self-sacrifice for those to whom we are called to love. May God bless you in the week to come by helping you avoid the sins that so easily beset us and by sending someone to you who needs help.

Bro. Mike

If you would like to help with this outreach into our community
