Islamic Relief UK is a non-governmental humanitarian organisation working to provide relief and assistance to families across the world facing poverty, natural disaster and conflict. During the period of Qurbani, we provide high-quality fresh lamb to help families and individuals in the UK who are struggling to make ends meet. Happy Eid FROM ISLAMIC RELIEF UK! WHAT IS QURBANI? During the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims replicate the story of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) – an important figure in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In the Islamic story,God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son as a test of loyalty and Abraham agrees, but God spares his son by bringing forth a sheep for sacrifice. During Eid al-Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice), Muslims remember the dedication of Prophet Abraham to God and God’s mercy for saving Abraham’s son by sacrificing a lamb, goat, cow or camel – known as Qurbani - and donating the meat to those in need. HOW DOES ISLAMIC RELIEF WORK? We’ve been providing Qurbani meat across the country to people living in food poverty since 2016. We work with local and national partners including FareShare, Sufra NW and The Children’s Society to ensure that all our lambs are slaughtered in accordance with Prophetic tradition. What’s more, all income from the skins and other animal by-products is used to support those in need. SO FROM EVERYONE AT ISLAMIC RELIEF UK, WE’D LIKE TO WISH YOU A BLESSED EID - EID MUBARAK! TURN OVERLEAF TO FIND A TASTY (AND SIMPLE!) LAMB RECIPE TO INSPIRE YOU IN THE KITCHEN! IN 2017, WE DISTRIBUTED QURBANI MEAT TO AROUND 38,000 INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE UK. THIS YEAR, WE’RE AIMING TO HELP EVEN MORE!
