    CLASS LEARNING

AN INSIGHT INTO OUR GEMS WEEK OF LEARNING

Assalamu alaikum and welcome to term 3. What a term it has been with our Hajj simulation, book week, school reports, school photos and Eid Al-Adha!!! Kindergarten have had a fun filled and eventful return to kindergarten. The Hajj simulation happened on the 30th of July and was an all-round

fantastic day. Lead by our very own Skeikh Ayad 😊 It was a lot more informative (and even more fun); with even the teachers learning something new. The simulation went up until lunch with everything being complete from the aeroplane ride, Kaaba, the tents of Mina, the Safa and Marwa walk, Mount Arafat, slaughtering of the lamb, sleeping under the stars in Muzdalifa, Zum Zum well and Ramy Al Jamarat . Each station had their own activity that closely aligned to steps in Hajj in order for it to be as interactive and hands on as possible. In Sha Allah next year we will have the parents come and join in on this joyous occasion.

Book week was another fun filled event that has happened, the hall looked fantastic if you were able to come in and the students were very excited and happy to start reading the books they had bought. Lastly, we had our holidays for EID -Al-Adha. I hope everyone stayed safe during the holidays and sent a relaxing and spent a relaxing and fun filled time with close friends and family. Until next fortnight, Kindergarten Ruby

    Assalamu alaikom parents,

I hope you had a peaceful and safe Eid break. Year 1 students had a wonderful time experiencing Hajj simulation last week and were briefly exposed to the pillars of Hajj. This term students will focus on narrative writing text and how to create their own stories. Creative arts will be linked to their English units as they will be exposed to practicing Drama based on the stories learnt in English class.

Alhamdulillah a few of year one students have now been moved to a higher reading level, this reflects the hard work of parents as well. Our goal for the rest of the term is to reinforce the students writing skills as they progress towards the end of the year, this will ensure they are well prepared for year 2 insha Allah. Ms Shaima

Wow! What a great start to T3! It has been an adventure taking year 2 to cover Ms. Ellen's leave. It was a lovely experience to see Year 2 students put in their best effort forward in their literacy and numeracy work. The Hajj stimulation was an incredible journey that will inshallah be cherished in their childhood memories. I would like to thank all the staff member who supported the event from behind the scenes preparations all the way to re-organizing the classrooms. I am sure the Eid break brought a lot of joy to the students and teachers. It was another wonderful event that bought the heart together despite the current wave of coronavirus.

I am pleased to see the imaginations of the students emerge in drama lessons. I am glad to see students working co-operatively with each other, supporting each other and working towards self-improvement in many areas. I am looking forward to seeing students imaginative writing work as we working on developing narrative. Please support your child to read every day as this will inshallah help them to expand their vocabulary and ideas. Ms. Amira

Assalamu Alaikum parents! I hope you all enjoyed your two weeks off and were able to relax and have some fun together. It is great to have the children back and ready to learn after such an upside-down first half of 2020! This term you might have noticed that we have had a few changes to our homework booklet, whereby we are doing weekly time table practice to boost the children’s speed and accuracy in Maths, and there are also Geography/Science/Grammar worksheets. Some weeks, rather than two reading comprehensions, I have replaced one of them with a worksheet relating to our studies in the classroom to back up what we are learning about. The children will also have a fortnightly times table test! Meanwhile in class, we have started learning about procedure/instructional text, which will be our focus for the next few weeks. We have also had our Hajj experience, which the children enjoyed greatly. I hope that you all had a great time celebrating Eid with your families, it is great to have the children back for what I hope will be an excellent term! Ms Jasmin

Assalamu Alaikum students, parents, and caregivers,

Hope everyone had a Happy Eid and enjoyed spending their time with loved ones. I am sure everyone enjoyed the days off to relax and come back enthusiastic to start work on Tuesday. I must say that I was very grateful for the days off, which I spent sleeping and catching up on work. Just a quick update on our class: We have started new topics and have been enjoying learning new information on various subjects. We are performing in Drama for CAPA. I am a trained drama teacher, so I am especially excited to put my skills to use. Students have already started learning about drama and some fun drama games to go along with it.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind students that homework is a very essential part of school. It allows us to revise work that we have learnt in class and practise these new skills. Some students are not putting in a lot of effort or handing in homework at all and are ending up in detention. I would like to remind students that we need to start making it a regular occurrence at home or to see me if they are having troubles with the work so I can assist.

Lastly, I would like to commend 5/6 Sapphire on their behaviour lately. They are acting like great role models for the younger years and are actively trying to incorporate all classroom expectations in their school days. Well done and keep it up!! Also, please remember to encourage your students to practise good hygiene in these recent times. This means getting them to wash their hands regularly! Regards, Ms Amanda

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I hope you all enjoyed you’re Eid break and stayed safe. If you weren’t aware, student reports have recently gone out, as well as their Semester 1 assessments and examinations. Please familiarise yourselves with these, especially the comments that teachers have left. In terms of individual classes, 7/8 Diamond have been going well thus far. It has been a bit stop-start to commence the term, although they have been working hard. They are reading a novel in English, have commenced Geography lessons for the first time this year, and will have a qualified coach teach them everything about cricket for the remainder of the term. Howzat!

9 Opal are behaving really well. I am surprised at how quiet it is in class sometimes, although if you give them an inch they’ll take a mile! In English, I am preparing them for their written speech, which will be due in the next couple of weeks. This speech will have to be performed at the end of the term in front of the class. My goal is to give them feedback on their written speech so that they can make it more persuasive by the time they perform it in Weeks 8 or 9. They too have begun Geography for the first time this year and will also learn the game of cricket. For TAS, they are being taken through a course on the ideas behind computer coding. They don’t actually use computer code, but they are learning the concepts behind it and building on their problem-solving skills. This is completed in a simplistic game-type environment, so I hope they are enjoying the challenge! Kindest Regards, Mr. Adrian
