  • Almond ZigmundBased in East Hampton and Brooklyn,

Almond Zigmund is an artist whose work has

been exhibited in Zurich, Berlin, New York,

and Los Angeles. The Parrish Art Museum

gave her a solo exhibit, Remembering the

Future, in 2007. Her crisply geometric work

brings to mind the finality of barricades and

enclosures. What inspired your chair? I used

some of the patterns already in the chair and

extended them onto the painted portion of the

chair and then incorporated some shapes that I

have been working with in my studio to create

a figure-ground relationship. Do chairs have

any special meaning to you? I love to go to

vintage stores and look at old chairs. I love the

elegance of chairs, the expressive personality

of design. One of my favorites is the classic

Eames molded fiberglass chair. Any great

beach moments in your life? My husband

and I were secretly married [at the Jewish

Center of the Hamptons] in East Hampton by

the cantor, with the janitor as a witness. Then

we joined a crowd of friends and family that we

had invited to the beach to celebrate [my now

husbands] 40th birthday and announced that

we had just gotten married! His family was not

thrilled; mine was relieved. Whats your

favorite beach on the East End? Louse Point

    and Barcelona Neck Bay. almondzigmund.com

  • Margaret GarrettThe movement and power in Margaret

Garretts work may derive from the fact that

the abstract artist spent her childhood training

to be a dancer. Dorothy Seiberling, the former

art editor of Life magazine, wrote of her art,

Ms. Garrett has been working miracles in her

studio, making visible on canvas and paper

what might be called the dance of the uni-

verse. Garretts work is included in the

collections of the Parrish Art Museum and

Guild Hall. How did you approach this

chair project? I have been working on a new

series of paintings and collages called Choros,

from the Greek word meaning movement,

which takes some of the movement in my

earlier work as a kind of starting point but

focuses more on moving shapes and color.

    Whats your favorite beach memory?

When I was a kid, my family would drive every

summer to Caswell Beach in North Carolina

for several weeks. We would rent a little beach

shack across the street from the beach and

    enter an alternate universecreating sand

castles, taking walks, and building bonfires.

I think that is one of the reasons I ended up

living at the beach as an adult. Garretts work is

on display at Birnam Wood Galleries, 48 Park Pl.,

    East Hampton, 324-6010; birnamwoodart.com.

Her art will also be shown during Art Southampton,

July 913, at Novas Ark, 60 Millstone Road,

    Water Mill; art-southampton.com.

  • Louise EastmanLouise Eastman, who has shown at the Silas

Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton and the

Southampton Cultural Center, is known for her

large, artful weavings that channel the campy pot

holders of the 1950s. She weaves, she paints, and in

2014, she cast an exquisite, artful, kiln-fired brick

nearly every day. For her chair, she glued a richly

dyed cloth with a soft square-infused motif that

harks back to the chairs original pattern, but in a

more random, artful manner. Did the idea of

chair art appeal to your familiar object-

investigating sensibilities? I prefer to find art in

unexpected places, so it was natural to be enthusi-

astic about making art on a chair. Originally, I

wanted to do a weaving, but it felt like I was

imposing on the design of the chair. When is your

favorite time to be at the beach? The end of the

day, which feels the same as it did in childhood,

when you are salty and sandy, and you can feel the

sun radiate on your skin. Where are your

    preferred beach walks? WainscottI cannot

imagine more beautiful ones. Beaches everywhere

seem to be getting smaller, but the beaches in

Wainscott stay they sametheyre still large and

wide. I like taking beach walks in Napeague,

walking the dunes, or going to Georgica Pond

when the cut is open and the pond is emptying out

into the ocean. Ive been going there since I was a

kid. What resonates with you about the

charitable element of this art project? Artists of

all backgrounds working together to make the

world a better place. Art is a powerful vehicle.

  • Jason MiddlebrookJason Middlebrooks worksacrylic on

    sculptural slices of treesreimagines their

original grain in bright colors and angular

    patterns. His giant, creaturelike sculptures,

which are crafted of steel, fiberglass, glass

tiles, and mortar and are like tree stumps

walking on their roots, have been shown at

    Silas Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton.

What was the motivation behind your

chair design? Its still evolving, but I keep

going back to the idea that its stuck in the

sand. You have placed this chair on the

beach, and youre contemplating time, space,

and the beauty of the sea. The chair will be

about contemplation. The site is always a big

part of my art, and I have a good feeling that

the chair will end up by the water. What is

your relationship to the sea? I grew up in

California, and the Atlantic is so different

from the Pacific. For one thing, you can

actually swim in it without a wet suit. The

beach is the gateway to the ocean, and the

ocean is scary and inspiring on many primal

levels. What do you love about the sea?

The sounds, the smells. I love what it does to

people. It calms them, makes them vener-

    able. jasonmiddlebrook.com H

    Cosmetic Surgery Using

    Cutting Edge Technology

Now more than ever, we can count on

the latest, exciting technology to help

    achieve the best possible cosmetic

surgery results. We are each confronted by the

media with hundreds of alternatives to helping

improve our appearance, regain our youth and

tone up our bodies. The reality is that the true

secret to maintaining a youthful look is paying

attention to the basic issues that you can control

getting adequate sleep, drinking plenty of

water, watching your diet and finding the time to

exercise. What many of us find, however, is that

this quest for beautiful skin and a beautiful body

can be quite frustrating. We can help you obtain

the look that you are striving for by using the

available advancements in technology to assist

    you in attaining your goals.

Breast augmentation, breast lifts and breast

    reductions provide beautiful, natural-looking

    results. Combining these procedures with

liposuction, tummy tuck, Cellulaze, body lift,

facelift, eyelid lift or non-surgical services is most

effective. Regardless of which procedures you

select, you can turn back the hands of time!

The hottest surgical techniques to make you

look younger include eyelid lifts, facelifts, deeper

laser resurfacing, and rhinoplasty. The eyelid lift

only takes about an hour and can give a very

youthful appearance to both the upper and

lower lids. A facelift, whether it is mini, lower, or

full lift can take years off of facial appearance.

A facelift is great way to pull up the excessive

skin, rejuvenate the neck and lift the jowls. Mini,

or modified facelifts are often performed on

much younger patients before the signs of

aging are advanced. Overall, the natural look is

    of utmost importance.

The newest technology w e offer is NeoGraft,

hair restoration. This system harvests, collects,

and implants individual follicular grafts for a

natural look. This minimally-invasive hair transplant

method allows for the harvesting of individual

follicles from the donor area without an incision

or a linear scar. Patients feel little to no discomfort

and No numbness where the donor hair is

harvested. No stitches or staples and a quick

recovery time make this treatment a great choice

for the millions of people suffering from hair loss.
