Gunnersbury Park Heritage Lottery Project The Gunnersbury Park HLF ‘Parks for People’ Project will bring the following improvements to Gunnersbury: Restore the historic parkland and its’ unique heritage features, views and landscapes Repair and maintain the listed Park structures so that they are no longer ‘At Risk’ Restore the Orangery as an events venue Recreate the west section of the Horseshoe Lake and repair the Round Pond Provide an excellent new catering facility to replace the old cafe Relocate the Pitch and Putt to open up the central heritage parkland and create a new nature trail and wildlife habitats Offer family activities including boating, pond dipping, improved toddler play, nature trails and podcasts Develop and run a community garden working with volunteers to demonstrate food growing and the history of gardens Revitalise the Park through community engagement, participation and learning activities Increase the number of volunteers and actively involve local people in caring for and running the park Improve visitor understanding through interpretation of the parks many features and stories. Install new wayfinding and signage and improve paths and access for all It is just one of several phases of improvements planned for the park and its many buildings. The plan below shows all of these phases fit together in the park, with the HLF ‘Parks for People’ Project area highlighted in red..

Gunnersbury Park Heritage Lottery Project

The Gunnersbury Park HLF ‘Parks for People’ Project will bring the following improvements to Gunnersbury:

Improvements to the Areas around the Mansions

• Improve and restore the heritage setting for the two mansions by resurfacing the terrace and museum forecourt, repairing the arches and balustrades.

• Repair and restore the Orangery so it can once again be used for events• Recreate the West Horseshoe Pond as the historic setting for the Orangery and repair the two ‘bridges’ • Repair the Round Pond and bring back boating• Build a new café to replace the existing worn out building and link it with a new building to display the Rothschild

Carriages• Improve the café terrace and landscaping, and replace the old toddler play area with a new ‘museum collections’

themed accessible play area• Improve disabled access to the south lawns by installing a new ramped path from the terrace down to the

Bathhouse and improving the footpaths around the south lawns.• Replant and restore the Victorian borders, rockeries and shrub beds around the south lawns• Repair the Gothic Ruins, East Archway and boundary walls• Create a new community garden and ‘garden history timeline’ themed planting beds in the East Walled Garden• Carefully manage the many historic trees and designed views for future generations to enjoy

Outer Parkland• Improve the park entrances by providing new park information signs, maps and wayfinding signs for the park• Relocate the pitch and putt course to the playing fields so that everyone can enjoy the central heritage parkland and

managed it as a long grass meadow for wildlife• Construct a new footpath and create a nature trail linking the heart of the park to the south boundary path with new

wildflower meadows and woodland habitats, seats and interpretation information• Create a pedestrian priority path along the car park access drive and provide bike stands • Repair the Potomac Tower and manage vegetation to restore historic views and reveal the Pulhamite rockery
