Not just lending support regarding IT integration of new company branches, but an IT partner as strategic to the company, that the management feels the need to purchase a share: this is the story of Presezzi Extrusion Group and Kirio.

Presezzi Extrusion Group is the perfect example of how courageous and far-sighted industry captains not only manage to consolidate the position of their own companies during an economic crisis, but also to strengthen the market leadership on a world-level.

The start: since 1994 Presezzi Extrusion, founded by Valerio Presezzi, plans, builds and installs profile extrusion presses in aluminium, hard alloy, copper and brass. The Company’s management started a consolidation process, aimed at widening its range, starting with the takeover of Reiter & Crippa srl and ending in the year 2013 with the acquisition of two other important companies from the metalworking sector: Profile Automation Srl and Coim Srl. Thanks to this growth Presezzi Extrusion Group is now a world-leader in the area of machines and entire plants for aluminium, copper and brass extrusion.

The company’s numbers are impressive: over 140 employees with a turnover of around 53 million Euros. The Presezzi Extrusion Group is a real success story for the Italian industry. Furthermore it is the only company, able to deliver an entire plant as well as single machines. Orders arrive from all over the world: from China and the USA as well as from South America and Africa. The new Presezzi Extrusion North America branch has been set up to support clients in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Another office in Dubai will provide service to clients and prospective customers in the Middle East. The company has its headquarters in Brianza (Vimercate) with an important industry linked to it, with almost all of the company’s suppliers coming from Italy. This decision has been taken to be able to improve quality control while keeping transport costs low.

PRESEZZI EXTRUSION GROUP AND KIRIO: BEYOND PARTNERSHIP

In this scenery of takeovers and structural changes the need of unification of the companies differently run IT departments was one of the Group’s main tasks. “We had a vertiginous growth. The takeovers were carried out quite quickly and enabled us to gain an important market share; it turned out to be a new reality, managed with the concept of a multi-company. Working all with the same IT systems and on the same software platforms was a sine qua non to start doing business as a Group”, Bruno Presezzi, CEO at Presezzi Extrusion Group (in picture), said. The Group’s policy’s approach was to leave the productive heart to the single company with its great competence and technical know-how, while management and administration were unified. As the technological partner Kirio srl, the software house from Bologna, has been chosen to support the group on its way. Kirio srl offers wide management knowledge, a team of developers, who know how to satisfy every need, as well as a strong partnership to allow the right dimensions regarding the IT infrastructures at the client’s headquarters or in the cloud. Bruno Presezzi says: “From the beginning Kirio has been right by our side for the entire verticalisation process regarding the Mago by Microarea management. Including them into the whole process just came natural.” The relationship between the Group and Kirio didn’t stop here, but went far beyond, when, at the end of 2010 Presezzi decided to purchase a share of Kirio, turning the software house into the Group’s ‘IT arm’.

“We know from experience that many critical moments in our area are created due to problems regarding management and monitoring the real cost of orders. We wanted to import the best available best-practice into Presezzi Extrusion and thanks to Kirio into the entire Group. Having the IT actor in the house seemed to us like the most strategic choice,” underlines Valerio Presezzi, Founder and President of the Group. This is a relation, which goes beyond partnership and where Kirio has the task to analyse the IT flow to redesign a unique system to enable continuous interaction and dialogue amongst the four companies, streamlining the management parts and the order flow.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND KIRIO’S VERTICALSOne management, numerous verticals and the first important intervention: the creation of a centralised server structure, physically located at the parent company as well as virtualisation of all the machines with a back up in the cloud. Over 100 users are connected, while the data is updated daily.

Numerous vertical developments by Kirio have been combined with the Mago.Net from Microarea SpA management. “For us K-Logistic is vital. Every company has its own warehouse. Just consider that one press is made out of around eight thousand components, so you understand how essential a software is, which ensures traceability,” Bruno Presezzi says.

The facility by Presezzi Extrusion is the outcome of implementation of the product’s single components by numerous suppliers, assembled at the company and – after a test run – disassembled and reassembled at the client’s plant. K-Logistic insures a lean, fluid and correct logistic’s management of warehouse and distribution. K- Order is the tool used for a quick configuration of the plant to create a correct commercial offer, thanks to selective checks of costs and the margin on a directional level.

“For us the cost control is fundamental. K-Order helps us a lot in this regard. The purchasing department implements the cost potential for every single machine at the moment of the offer, considering that every single one of our products is customised; the agent chooses the different pieces for every single machine,” Bruno Presezzi explains. “We’ve just implemented a new project, based on the K-Commesse vertical on Gruppo Zucchetti’s Business Intelligence engine and the Collaboration Tool Confluence platform to use automatisms and analysis over the entire sales management cycle, thus reaching our objective of normalisation of data between the companies on a short term basis.”

Today Presezzi Extrusion Group does not only count on a single partner, but on a proper branch of the Group, following and facilitating industrial growth thanks to technological innovation.

“For us research and development is one of the most important sectors of investment, involving our best technological and planning resources, which turns into the main objective for the client: energy conservation, programmes for the entire production management, excellent extrusion product quality and reduction of production cost. We can’t imagine that all of this could happen without one of the most evolved IT supports, which is guaranteed by Kirio for the entire Group,” Bruno Presezzi concludes.
