Greetings, During the month of May, we experienced a nice rebound following a drastic increase in property crimes during the month of April. As a result of the hard work from your sector officers and continued community engagement we have been able to get back on track

towards achieving our quarterly and yearly crime reduction goals.

Violent Crime for the Month of May decreased (44%) compared with May 2014. There were a total of nine(9) Violent Crimes during the month compared with sixteen (16) during May 2014.

Of the nine incidents, three have been cleared by arrest. Thru the end of May, Sector 112 has a 43% reduction in Violent Crime for the year!

Property Crime for the Month of May decreased (21%) compared with May 2014. There were a total

of forty two (42) property crimes during the month compared with fifty three (53) during May 2014. Our detectives continue to investigate these crimes and ask that you contact Crime Stoppers with any

information at 804-780-1000. Thru the end of May, Sector 112 has a 3% increase in Property Crime for the year

know your Sector Officers, page 3 will introduce you to some of the men and women working your neighborhood during the Evening hours. (midnight officers will follow next month)

“Where are the cops when you need them??”

Not a statement often heard when Officer Lamont Carey is on patrol.

Officer Carey, a nine year veteran consistently utilizes his training and experience to bring

criminals to justice that plague our city.

TEAMWORK BETWEEN PATROL AND DETECTIVE LEADS TO QUICK APPREHENSION

A recent call for service highlight that quick response to routine calls for service combined with excel-

lent teamwork can solve problems that plague a community.

On May 4th, a citizen called to report two suspicious males looking into cars in the 200 block of Hull St. Based upon the

quick response of Officer Dan Bondy, Detective Clyde Lindsey who was circulating the area was able to stop the two

males a block away. Based upon their subsequent investigation, one of the two was charged with Larceny of items from

a vehicle they were seen looking into.

Thefts from vehicles continue to plague Sector 112 and

the quick actions taken by Officer Bondy and Detective

when they observe suspicious people in their neighbor-

hoods and notify police!!

After being flagged down about a potential burglary in

progress at a downtown business, Officer Carey along with

other Sector personnel responded and surrounded the

establishment without alerting the intruder to the police

presence. Within minutes of arrival, the offender exited the

rear of the business with his loot in tow. He was so surprised

at the hulking figure of Officer Carey that he dropped his

stolen goods and surrendered on the spot. As a result, the male

was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny and Possession of

Burglary tools.

Neighborhood Organizations

A partnership between the community and the police is a key component in the sharing

of information in the effort to reduce crime and increase the quality of life in the community

Neighborhood watch groups are the extra eyes and ears that help protect the neighborhood from crime. It will help build pride and serves as an avenue for efforts that address community concerns such as recreation for youth, affordable housing,

and quality of life issues. Anyone can start a Neighborhood Watch. All you need are a few concerned residents. You will learn how to make your homes more secure,

watch out for each other and your neighborhood, and report activities that appear to be suspicious to the police department.

Crime Prevention Tips

Robberies: ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings DON’T RESIST. No property is worth your life Walk in well lit areas and with others, when possible Burglaries: Notify Police of suspicious people in your neighborhood Obtain the best possible description without jeopardizing your safety When you leave home make sure that the doors and windows are locked If you go out of town for an extended period, notify First Precinct at 646-3602 so we can check on your house when you are gone. . Larcenies: Don’t leave valuable items in plain view Place items in the trunk of your car Placing your outdoor items (such as lawnmowers, tools etc.) in sheds with locks Turn on exterior lights at night Motor Vehicle Thefts: NEVER leave the car running while unattended Invest in an Anti-theft device, such as the “club” to deter thefts Narcotics/ Quality of Life Concerns: If you believe that crimes of this nature are taking place either in a general area or a specific location don’t hesitate to call the police. Drug dealing brings an element of danger to your neighborhood. Unaddressed, these crimes can significantly reduce your quality of life. Teen Parties Parents of teenaged children should ask several questions about parties their children attend: Who is giving the party? Who will be attending? What is the age-range of the attendees? Who will be supervising? Will there be security? How long will it last? Parents with questions about a party in the city may call the Department at 646-4069

Ride Along Program

The Richmond Police Department allows citizens to ride with an officer to gain a better under-standing of the functions, duties, and responsibilities of officers. The application must be print-ed, filled out, signed, and sent via regular mail to the Richmond Police Department. Applicants

will be notified by phone and a convenient time will be arranged for the ride-along.
