Solar Photovoltaic (PV)Economic Benefits: Peak ShavingEconomic Benefits: Peak Shaving

Peak KWH rates are charged by the utility at highest demand periods of the day which are generally from the early afternoon to evening rush hour Monday to Friday

Seasonally, the summer months also trigger more Peak KWH demand due to the additional AC cooling load

23

due to the additional AC cooling load

One of the great advantages of solar photovoltaic is its power production coincidence with peak demand

Therefore, an installed solar PV system can go a long way in reducing your peak demand KWH's which are considerably more expensive than your regular KWH rate. This is referred to as Peak Shaving

Page 24: Green Power Solutions 101

Solar Photovoltaic (PV)Economic Benefits: Net MeteringEconomic Benefits: Net Metering

A method of crediting customers for electricity that they generate on site in excess of their own electricity consumption

Customers offset the electricity they would have purchased from their utility with their own generation

24

If customers generate more than they use in a billing period, their electric meter turns backwards to indicate their net excess generation

Depending on individual state or utility rules, the net excess generation may be credited to their account (in many cases at the retail price), carried over to a future billing period, or ignored

Solar Photovoltaic (PV)Economic Benefits: Renewable Energy Certificates (R EC’s)Economic Benefits: Renewable Energy Certificates (R EC’s)

REC’s represent the renewable attributes of solar PV (or wind) generation

REC’s are tradable commodities that prove 1 megawatt-hour (1,000 kWh) of electricity was generated from a renewable energy source

Some states such as NJ, CT, FL, and CA already have a REC market due to their aggressive renewable portfolio standard (RPS), and many other states are

30

aggressive renewable portfolio standard (RPS), and many other states are heading in that direction as well

Purchasing REC’s allows companies and institutions to help the environment and at the same time help their organizations by demonstrating to others that they are environmental stewards and leaders in sustainability in their communities

Electricity output of the PV system is used on-site and REC payments are based on the system's total output

This PV system was contracted at the same time between Green Power and the owners of both adjacent townhouses allowing us to provide a canopy structure that spans across both buildings. This structure started at a minimum height of 10’ and tilted up to about 15’ which exempted us from fire path code rules. These are technically two separate projects with central inverters located in the basement of each townhouse. This system is rated to withstand a minimum of 110 mile per hour winds.

This graph reflects the cost of electric supply. However NYC’s rates are much higher than the national average.Electrical delivery typically doubles the cost of electricity.

Page 45: Green Power Solutions 101

Why NowPerfect Market TimingPerfect Market Timing

Solar Modules Price decrease: down 60% -75% over the last 3 years. Import duties imposed on some Chinese import in late 2012, solar module

prices have leveled out and stabilized. Soft economy of recent years stabilized commodity pricing for copper,

steel and aluminum which are being passed along to customers. Federal, City and State Incentives will continue to decrease.

45Confidential Material Property of Green Power Solutions, Inc.

Federal, City and State Incentives will continue to decrease. NYSERDA’s rebate decreased to $1.70/W to $1.50 at the end of 2012 and $1.50 to $1.40 in on April 1st 2013. NYC Property Tax Abatement (2.5%/Yr for 4 Yrs) will expire in 2014. Federal 30% Tax Credit expires in 2016.MACRS: Accelerated schedule over last few years expire in 2014.

NYSERDA have just started funding larger solar PV project throughout NYS and NYC.

Great ROI/Payback: Commercial systems achieve about 3-4 year payback (25%-33%), Residential systems achieve about 4-5 year payback (20%-25%).

With climate change accelerating, we all have to do our part.
