This past week I received some ex-citing news - we’re getting a new priest! Deacon Michael Jablonski, who is to be ordained a priest next Saturday, has been assigned to begin his pastoral ministry

with us as a Parochial Vicar in our Massena/Louisville Cath-olic Parishes. Fr. Jablonski will start his assignment with us on June 21st. If you have never been to an ordination before, let me encourage you to go next Saturday, which will begin at 11am at the Cathedral in Ogdensburg. The conferral of the Sacrament of Holy Orders is a beautiful ceremony, filled with rich symbolism and moving rituals that speak of the priestly office and ministry into which a man is being or-dained. I’m always deeply moved when I attend one, be-cause it renews in me a sense of profound gratitude and wonder as I recall my own ordination day. And next week . . . it will mean a lot for us here, since the priest being or-dained will begin his pastoral life with us! Whether or not you’re able to come to the ordination next Saturday, please join me in praying for Deacon (soon-to-be Father) Michael as he prepares for Holy Orders - and that many more men who are being called by God will respond generously to the priestly vocation in our diocese. ~Fr. Mark

Help Needed with St. Mary’s & St. Joseph’s Bingo

There is a need for workers at Bingo, in the concession and on the floor. Bingo is a major source of income for the parish and we need volunteers to make it work efficiently. Please consider helping us by working once a month. Contact the Parish Office for more information.

Did You Know? You may contact the parish office and give them the name of a parishioner who is homebound or who has been admitted to the hospital or nursing home. That person will be added to the current list of parishioners scheduled to receive Communion and/or a visit from a volunteer.

ENTERTAINING ANGELS A Parish Hospitality Workshop

Saturday June 3 from 8am-4pm at SUNY Potsdam. Join us for a day-long workshop sponsored by the Offic-es of New Evangelization and Formation for Ministry that explores how we as a Catholic Faith Community welcome people. A hospitable community doesn’t “just happen.” Hospitality takes effort and intentionality and work. It isn’t just the responsibility of a select few on a hospitality committee. It requires each and every one of us. Please join us for a practical one-day workshop at SUNY Potsdam to learn how you can make a difference in how your parish community opens the doors to Christ and create a welcoming parish community. Cost for the workshop is $35 per person which includes all materials and lunch. Registration is required by May 26. For de-tails, information and to register, please see http://rcdony.org/hospitality or contact Marika Donders at [email protected]

The St. Vincent de Paul Gabriel

Project is a program available to mothers,

fathers, grandparents or any caregiver of

an infant or child(ren) up to age 3.

The Gabriel Project, along with the Outreach Committee, is spon-

soring a fundraiser. This weekend, there are empty baby bottles at the

entrance of all 4 churches. We ask that you please take a bottle home

and place your loose change inside the bottle every day for a week.

When you attend Mass next week, there will be a table labeled “The

Gabriel Project” at the entrance of the church where you can place the

bottle with the money inside. We will have available envelopes for those

wishing to make out a check to “The Gabriel Project” instead for tax

purposes.

Please help in any way possible. Money raised for this fundraiser

will help purchase diapers, cribs and formula. If you would like to get

involved with “The Gabriel Project”, please call St Vincent the Paul

at 315-769-1200.

Pastoral Planning A new priest in Massena come June? Three priests? How

does this change our pastoral plan? These are good questions that would naturally come up since we just learned of Father Michael Jablonski’s assignment to join us here. The short an-swer is: “this buys us a little time, but our Pastoral Plan will essentially remain.” We will have three priests in Massena be-ginning on June 21st, but we can only realistically expect that to last for a couple years or so. The fact remains: our number of priests in the diocese will continue to decline for the foreseeable future. Additionally, our Pastoral Plan is not strictly based on the number of priests. It also takes into account: the changing demographics of our local population; the average number of people attending Masses; the financial resources available; the types of ministries and apostolates that are needed; Christ’s command to “make disciples” of everyone - which includes every member of these parishes. All of these things are im-portant matters that require consideration, and it goes far deeper than the question of how many priests we have to offer Masses on any given weekend.

Catholic Home Missions Appeal Strengthening the Church at Home

Next week we will take up the Catholic Home Missions

Appeal. Right now over 40 percent of the dioceses in the US are

considered home missions because they are unable to fund es-

sential pastoral work needed in their communities. Our support

of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses mostly in

the Midwest, West and Deep South. Please prayerfully consider

how you can support this appeal for the American Church. More

information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.
