SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2018 WAS A BEAUTIFUL
day for the Clarksville Picnic. A few thousand people – parishioners, neighbors and friends – gathered to enjoy a chicken and pulled pork dinner, play games, listen to music and find trinkets and treasures at the White Elephant Sale. This year’s picnic netted $110,000 for the parish. Thanks to all who made it a success!
Save the date for next year’s picnic Saturday, June 29, 2019!

2017-18 ANNUAL REPORT 3
NOW IN ITS 13TH SEASON, THE ST. LOUIS Church Concert Series continues its tradition of bringing outstanding performances to Clarksville, curating programs that span an array of musical genres, celebrate scores of composers, and deliver a balance of performances by guest artists and the St. Louis choirs and orchestra. With a line-up that dives into musical influences sprawling centuries and traversing the globe, organizers have curated this season’s programs to ENLIVEN, EDUCATE, and ENTERTAIN, the three-pronged commitment for the concert series at large and guiding principles for each concert.
Heather Adelsberger, Artistic Director of the Concert Series and Director of Music at St. Louis Parish, describes the important role played by the Concert Series in promoting the talents of the parish’s music ministry members. “In executing these dual roles, it is my great pleasure to provide opportunities for members of our music ministry to perform alongside talented musical professionals. After weeks of rehearsals, it is always a thrill for our combined choirs to sing with the support of a full orchestra.”
The 2018-19 season is book-ended by programs that evoke the American spirit. The opening concert gives a nod to the national pastime with a performance of the “Who’s on First?” comedy routine made famous by Abbott and Costello and a baseball-themed Broadway show tune. The evening also takes the audience on a tour of the American songbook, performing some of the most recognizable numbers written for the Broadway stage and the jazz repertoire. The final concert of the season, scheduled for mid-May 2019, salutes our country’s most beloved patriotic tunes and composers.
The coming season includes exciting performances by guest ensembles making their Concert Series debuts. With the intimate spaces of the 1889 chapel as setting, the Omer String Quartet, the graduate quartet-in-residence at University of Maryland, College Park, will showcase its rich talents in November. In 2019, the concert series welcomes for the first time the EYA Ensemble for Medieval Music, a Washington D.C.-based
vocal group who will take audience members on a musical Lenten pilgrimage through medieval Spanish pilgrimage routes. The Aleks Izotov Trio also enters its initial collaboration with the Concert Series in 2019, entertaining audiences with a program that celebrates jazz and the spirit of its birthplace, New Orleans.
The annual Christmas concert has been a mainstay of the Concert Series. This year’s seasonal celebration links sacred music with sounds culled from holiday film classics. Behind this seemingly odd pairing is an invitation to audience members to reaffirm what they know to be the source and true reason for celebrating Christmas. It’s also an invitation for concertgoers to sit back and enjoy sounds from the screen that have become yuletide staples.
Ms. Adelsberger strongly believes that the Concert Series offers widespread appeal. “I invite everyone to attend a concert in one of our many venues. Whether an intimate chamber experience by candlelight in the 1889 chapel, a rousing medley of popular tunes in the Social Hall, or a grand spectacle with full orchestra in our beautiful sanctuary, our programs are of diverse appeal and offered free, or at nominal cost. Parking is ample and the fellowship is unmatched. Parishioners need look no further than our own campus to experience musical performances that will take their breath away. I look forward to welcoming everyone soon.”
Scheduling and program information for the Concert Series are available at https://www.stlconcertseries.org/.

CYM – Light of Christ Shining Through!
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life. – John 8:12
CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY
SOMEONE ONCE SAID THAT BEING A FOLLOWER of Jesus is like being an insect! We are called to be like moths attracted to a flashlight and we are also called to be like fireflies, serving as light in a dark night. If our world and our relationships need anything now, they need the Light of Christ shining through! The young church at St. Louis can be that Light of Jesus and illuminate the world with hope, faith and love. As we continue through the fall and winter 2018, darkness is dispelled and His Light is revealed with service like Lunches for the Homeless, Brunches at Grassroots Shelter, Sweets and Service baking, Christmas Adopt a Family, and more! The
Holy Spirit shines forth as hundreds of our young people receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. As we gather monthly for youth masses and one weekend for the Live Nativity at the Shrine of St. Anthony, our worship reminds us of His hope. In our monthly middle school Net Nights and weekly religious education faith formation, we learn about and live the love that He gives.
One small light dispels any darkness. The Light of Jesus in the good people of St. Louis can provide the Gospel of love and hope to so many!

IN FISCAL YEAR 2017-2018, SAINT LOUIS PARISH gave 8% of its total income to charitable outreach. It also raised over $320,000 for the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. Saint Louis has a strong outreach program that reaches from as close as the parish community to as far away as Gonaives, Haiti. Parishioners also give generously in other ways that include: donating non-
perishable food items to the monthly food collection, baking chicken monthly for over 800 people who come to Our Daily Bread for a hot meal, buying school supplies and coats for the less fortunate and adopting needy families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. This generosity, both in cash and in goods, totaled over $1 million this past fiscal year for parish outreach efforts.
PARISH OUTREACH PARTNERS
Let The Bells Ring! The Campanile of Clarksville In March 2018, the parish began a new
capital campaign for roof replacement of the 1855 chapel, installation of a new HVAC system in the 1990 education building, replacement of the broken and deteriorating steps in the front of the church and the addition of a bell tower, which was part of the design when the church was designed and built over 13 years ago. Since the campaign started, $1,621,000 has been raised, which is 63% of the $2,575,000 fundraising goal. We are grateful to all who have participated and
look forward to finishing the needed repairs in the Spring of 2019.
If you are still considering making a gift or pledge to the Saint Louis Bell Tower – The Campanile of Clarksville Capital Campaign, please contact the Parish Development Office at 410-531-6040, x229.

Saint Louis in the Community
PARISH OUTREACH PARTNERS
IN FISCAL YEAR 2017-18, SAINT LOUIS PARISH supported over 50 organizations, near and far through its community outreach efforts.
One of our most grateful partners is Our Daily Bread in Baltimore City. On the second Sunday of every month, over 100 parishioners each make a dozen or more pieces of baked chicken they prepare
at home. The chicken is packed in coolers and delivered to Our Daily Bread that afternoon. The following Tuesday, a few Saint Louis parishioners go to Our Daily Bread to help serve the several hundred guests who come there for a hot meal. Last year, parishioners prepared enough chicken to serve 9,488 meals.
Take the Next Step Completes its Second YearIn 2016, the parish launched
“Take the Next Step,” the
stewardship offertory program
that asks each parish individual
and family to consider making their
offertory gift based on their weekly
income and suggests a “step”
increase if their budget allows
it. If you have “Taken the Next
Step” – THANK YOU! If you are still
considering making an offertory
gift or increasing your current gift,
please use the chart to the right as
a reference. Thank You for Your
Continued Generosity to Saint Louis!

St. Louis School: Starting each day with a grateful heart!OUR SCHOOL THEME FOR THE 2017-2018 YEAR “Stay joined to me and bear much fruit” (John 15:5) was the perfect backdrop for a year that brought us our second Blue Ribbon recognition, awards and accolades for our hardworking students, and the highest enrollment in ten years. Our Preschool program achieved Level 5 status with the Maryland Excels program, the highest ranking in five core disciplines.
Our FIRST Lego League teams did us proud as they traveled from tournament to tournament, placing at the top of their respective divisions with one team even making it all the way to the world competition! Our drama and band performances inspired us and our cross-country and basketball teams proudly represented our school across the archdiocese.
Designated the “Year of the Teacher” by the Archdiocese Division of Schools, the 2017-2018 school year gave us the opportunity to celebrate the dedicated and selfless sacrifice of our Catholic school teachers. They infuse every day with the light of Christ for our students while teaching them reverence, respect, and responsibility, and we are exceedingly grateful for all that they do to help form persons of faith who will leave this world better than they found it.
We could not do all that we do without the support of our parents, grandparents, friends and community partners. We are grateful for their continued support and enthusiastic participation in our events, donations to our endowments and the Fund for St. Louis, and for generous grants to support our Louis IX program and fund school improvements. We are blessed!

2018 CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE
Please Come HomeDo you ever wonder why the
church is so full at Christmas? We
are blessed each year with people
wanting to reconnect, if only for a
little while. People are yearning for
a relationship with the Church that
somehow has gotten broken over
the years. The longing is there: they
find their way home at Christmas. If
this sounds like someone you know,
please tell them we love them, we
miss them and we want to welcome
them home to experience the loving
Mercy of the Lord. The members
of the St. Louis Pastoral Staff are
here to listen and help them with
their journey back to the church.
